There are injury fears surrounding Everton’s Mikel Arteta after the Spanish playmaker was forced off after just seven minutes of tonight’s 1-1 draw with Birmingham at Goodison.
Early reports suggest that Arteta has suffered a hamstring injury – the player was seen being assisted off the field by two Everton officials, clutching his right hamstring. Details remain scarce on the severity of the injury but David Moyes offered us this post-match…
“It looks like a hamstring injury. It’s too early to say – I’m not sure but I’m guessing he will be out for a few weeks.”
Arteta came into tonight’s game off the back of one of his most profitable Fantasy performances at Newcastle on Saturday, in what has been a hugely disappointing season to this point. All the talk this week from the Everton camp billed the playmaker as nearing his best after his influential display in the 2-1 win. This setback could come as a major blow then, should it result in a spell on the sidelines.
In Fantasy terms it would certainly come as a major disappointment to the 92,000 Fantasy Premier League managers who brought in Arteta ahead of his double fixture in gameweek 29.
The Toffees are next in action on March 19 for the gameweek 30 fixture with Fulham at Goodison; that’s a match that would promise potential returns for Arteta but, right now, he must be considered a major doubt for that game.
There will hopefully be further comment from the Everton camp in the next 24-hours.
