Liverpool have confirmed that Steven Gerrard is set for a four week spell on the sidelines. The announcement comes following consultation with a specialist which led to surgery on his troublesome groin.

In Fantasy Premier League (FPL) terms, this will come as a blow to Gerrard’s 6.8% ownership as the instrumental midfielder looks set to potentially miss at least the next two Premier League fixtures (BOL whm). The skipper will also sit out next Thursday’s crunch Europa League second leg fixture with Braga; Liverpool trail 1-0 from last night’s first leg.

Liverpool’s spot kicks will now be up for grabs in Gerrard’s absence. After scoring a memorable hat-trick against Manchester United last weekend, Dirk Kuyt may be at the front of the queue having already assumed duties this season. The Dutchman has been a key figure in Liverpool’s turn in fortune over the last few months and, with Gerrard out of action, holds plenty of potential. Luis Suarez may yet have something to say when it comes to spot-kick duty, the Uruguayan will also be looking to pick up direct free-kicks – it was his effort from distance which led to Kuyt’s hat-trick goal against United.

Gerrard’s setback comes at a time when new signing Andy Carroll is in line to make his full debut for the club, following his £35 million pound move from Newcastle. Carroll’s influence as a target man was seen briefly in his substitute appearance during last night’s game with Braga. Kenny Dalglish will be frustrated at the timing of these events – Liverpool are surely set to miss Gerrard’s delivery, which would be a perfect compliment to Carroll’s aerial dominance in the box.

Injuries to FPL midfield favourites are now mounting up, leaving Fantasy Managers searching for replacements. Gerrard joins an already overflowing list which includes Tim Cahill, Cesc Fabregas, Nani, Theo Walcott and Mikel Arteta amongst others. The likes of Kuyt, Samir Nasri and the Villa contingent of Ashley Young, Stewart Downing and Marc Albrighton are set to pick up further interest as a result, while Frank Lampard’s recent resurgence could well see renewed interest.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

I think those tansferring out Nani, must have injuries galore and just want to have a healthy squad - me included. I have had Barton, RVP, Fabs, Kelly, Nani, Szcznesy out, plus Etherington and VDV for the DGW, plus Kolarov and Coleman not getting regular starts...

    WC for me!

Just quickly did that BBC Predictor until the end of the season:

    14. Birmingham 41pts
    15. Wolves 40pts
    16. Blackpool 40 pts
    17. West Ham 38 pts
    18. Blackburn 38pts
    19. Wigan 37pts
    20. WBA 36pts

Interesting reading as I didn't look at the projected table during my predictions. Personally I think Wigan and Blackburn WILL go down, but will be joined by Blackpool, not WBA.

At the top, United won the league by 2 points, with Spurs just missing out on 4th. 6th and 7th were Liverpool and Sunderland.

Anyway, just thought I'd share 😀

The point about Nani, for me, is that it's a horrible shin injury. I've had one of those, and I know that they are devilishly difficult to heal, owing to the lack of subcutaneous tissue over the shin bone - long before you start talking about infection etc. ... SAF has said that they have stitched it now - but mine was stitched straight away, as there was no bruising, which Nani had - and my stitches ripped on day 5 ...

Is keeping N'Zogbia for his next two home games - on the premise that he owes me for being... well, rubbish in his last 6 - a ridiculous concept?

The one time he did well at West Brom, I benched him... which is quite frankly just annoying...

I basically just want one good week out of him before I swap him for Adam... and given that Wigan are fighting for their survival, he could well prove a huge differential in GW30...

      yes you are.

He plays for birmingham and they are not known for their goalscoring prowess. Also with Jerome, Phillips and Martins there, he won't start every game. Just another crouch. All he can do is head the ball in the goal.

      Stay well clear IMO.

I think he'll score at least 1 in next 2 and he HAS to be preferred choice over jerome, phillips or martin??? but then again mcleish is a twat

Lol at my predicted prem table I just did.

West Ham 10th Level on points with Everton in 8th and Villa 9th.

    To drop

    18. Blackpool
    19. Blackburn
    20. Wigan

Blackpool go down on goal difference. Level with Stoke.

Arsenal to win by 5 points, followed by Man U, Chelsea, City, Spurs, Liverpool, Sunderland.

Only 6 points between 8th and 18th. Wow. Lets hope thats how the table is come the end of the season, but with Man U winning the title preferably. Not that any of you guys cared about that, just was interesting for me.

Evening fellas. Liking the quality and tone of tonight's chat - could it be that all the lairy beer monsters are down the boozer? 😉

Also liking the fact that Wolves only appeared in one relegation prediction above .For what it's worth, and without a shred of bias as a Wolves fan, my prediction is:

    Blackburn
    Blackpool
    Wigan

Much as I would love the baggies to go down I don't think they will, and it does add a bit of spice to proceedings.

I saw Blackburn at Villa Park a couple of weeks ago and they were dreadful. Piss poor, and certainly a team that could get dragged into the relegation places.

Wolves entertain Blackburn last day of the season. Watch this post come back and haunt me.

F*ck me another Wolf! We should be Ok man. We're playing well and with a lot of belief. O'Hara has been an inspiration and most are back from injury now.
I think we'll be ok. Famous last words.

I think it's going to the last day for us, I really do.

It's all very well having so called easier fixtures remaining, but we are playing all the teams around us, which is fine if you beat them, and that's something we haven't done so well this season. Add to that Villa, Blues & West Brom, and anything could happen in those games.

We are certainly playing well at the moment, but being a Wolves fan means I have to be a pessimist!

Totally hear you. Frustrating season seeing us raise our game vs all those big guns then come unstuck against the smaller clubs. Always the Wolves way it seems.
I'm still a bit annoyed with Mick for not shoring up the left back spot and getting another centre back in.
I really don't rate Elokobi or Ward at all.

So West Ham - Stoke plays no role in Spurs -West Ham

But this changes my plans. Was gona keep Tevez and go
        Bale,Lampard,Adam,Nasri,Nani
        Berba,Tevez,RVP

for a few weeks but City will beat Reading 2mor you would expect meaning Tevez has
Chelsea away (bench him), Sunderland(h), Liv (Bench him), Blank....

chelsea away (bench), sunderland (h) play, then gw32 sell for either torres or if he's still playing like a 50million lira striker get welbeck/gyan instead. maybe have a look at lampard + 2 chelsea defenders instead for their good run of games? unless drogba or torres sort their lives out i reckon luiz, terry and lamps could be the trio, then gw35 rvp out tevez in

            Erm...

Let's hope there aren't any injuries to Djourou or Downing between now and 19 March.

It is a hit for him actually. He has had a liking for hits over the past fortnight.

Still sleeping here. Hits are good anything. They clean the spirit & burn FPL points.

I took some massive gambles last week in a bid to catch up with my rival. Funny how conversative play can quickly descend to madness.
