After a tough last few gameweeks that have seen them collect just one point from five Premier League matches, Sunderland’s fixtures are starting to look appealing again. There’s no doubt Steve Bruce’s side rode their luck a little in the recent goalless draw at the Emirates, but the Black Cats boss will take heart in the spirited performance ahead of the upcoming home match against Liverpool, which is then followed by a trip to Eastlands to face Man City.

Sunderland then have one of the most favourable run-ins of any team in the Premier League, with just one of their last seven fixtures (WBA, bir, WIG, FUL, bol, WOL, whm) against a team in the top half of the table. Beaten just three times at the Stadium of Light this season, Bruce will be looking for his side to push on from their current league position of eighth and the contribution of Asamoah Gyan will be vital.

In his debut season, Gyan is the club’s top scorer with nine league goals and- with Darren Bent’s departure coupled with injuries to both Danny Welbeck and Frazier Campbell- has cemented his role as Sunderland’s key forward since moving to Wearside at the tail end of last August.

With four goals, two assists and four Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Bonus Points since the turn of the year, Gyan has continued to bang in the goals despite his side’s indifferent form. Bearing in mind the afore-mentioned set of fixtures, the Ghanaian could well be finding the net a few more times before the season is out, particularly now as Sunderland have key players such as Lee Cattermole returning from injury to strengthen their starting XI.

Although last week saw Welbeck make a brief substitute appearance since succumbing to a knee injury in early January, Gyan looks the more reliable of Sunderland‘s forwards to plump for, in terms of both performance and availability. Priced at just £7.0m and with 4.2% Fantasy Ownership, he’s still relatively cheap enough to free up FPL budgets for those Fantasy Managers looking to juggle personnel in light of the upcoming blank and/or double gameweeks.

Ahead of this week‘s home encounter with Liverpool, the stats certainly seem to be favourable for those mulling over an imminent punt on the Sunderland forward; Gyan has found the net in three of his last four home games and, with Liverpool conceding at least two goals in six of their last eight away games, the signs are looking good.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Believe me I don't want to bash him as I support Italy and want him so badly to fulfil his potential, if only to shut up all the racist elements, but it is sooooo frustrating to watch him, he is like a time bomb in every game. I just can't see a manager who would calm him down??

I personally don't see it for him although I hope he atleast comes through for the ppl that support him and have rooted for him. For me his attitude is no near where it should be if really wants to become a good player no matter how much talented he is, he is bound to fail.

The only team they have conceded 1 goal to was to wolves their last league game at home - other than that conceding 2-3 goals all season at home. Arsenal off of blanks last few games, would say they are due for a biggie.

Hodgson has tightened them up at the back though, and Arsenal don't have Fabs to unlock 'bus parking' defenses this gw.

You have to think of it long term.

Over the final 9 Gw's who do you think is going to score the most points? Berbs or Van P?

If RVP stays healthy then its no contest.

Depends on who your first sub is - berbatov wont start the game. But perhaps he will come on for a 1 pointer. Even if he does start - berbs doesnt deal well with competition. 2 point max for him i reckon. i say a worthy transfer - at worst id say you push with the 4 point hit, and van persie very capable of putting in 3.

I can see arsenal scoring but don't think they will score that many to justify a hit from berbatov to rvp. The big question is will fergie start berba as he does like to rotate players. If only all managers were like carlo at the start of the season and name the playing 11 would make life so much easier 🙂

So, more than two-thirds of all entrants for cup were booted out before the first knockout stage.

    F*cking farce.

Very very poor format and organisation.

A proper cup like I play in TFFO (games over 2 legs and teams from top 50% play teams from bottom 50%) is so good that even when you get knocked out you can't wait to see the next matchup, just like in real football!

This was my first cup experience here- it is already a distant memory.

Nah, the format is fine, I'm just annoyed that they didn't start it a week earlier and had 1024 people in it, as opposed to 512 a week later.

I think it was a last minute decision to fit one in before the seasons end. It's the first time there has been concurrent scout cups running and the first time there has been 3 in a season.

Hi Blue Teets - we will look at the cup format for next season. This season we've run 3 tournaments for the first time and admittedly, we were hurried with the final one. We've got the basic structure in place to ensure that this doesn't happen again but we're already taking steps to improve things next season.

            Terrible logic.

By a similar 'argument' you should captain VDV because the Spurs game is on TV and the Arsenal one isn't.

Were going to give Arsenal one hell of a game on Saturday, they are without several key players and were fighting for our lives. He still could easily grab a brace obviously because he is class but think Nani or Rooney are much better options.

I have exactly the same problem, I think I'm gonna go for RVP. Arsenal will be coming back strong from their recent defeats, plus Van Persie; up top on his own.

Bet you are looking forward to seeing your squad with Rafael Van Der Vaart and Robin Van Persie in it rather than David Bentley and Peter Odemwingie. Nice upgrade 🙂
