After the feast of yesterday’s eight fixtures we’ve got a relative famine this afternoon as we have just two games to sate our fantasy appetite this Sunday afternoon.

The Dugout Discussion swings open it’s doors once again as the two English sides knocked out of the Europa League in midweek are left to pick themselves back up and dust themselves down, starting with Liverpool at Sunderland.

The News from the Stadium of Light sees Danny Welbeck coming for Steed Malbranque as he makes his first start in over two months following a knee injury. Kenny Dalglish meanwhile gives Andy Carroll his first Premier League start in a Liverpool shirt as he (and Jay Spearing) come into the Liverpool side. The full teams are…

Sunderland XI: Mignolet; Bardsley, Bramble, Mensah, Ferdinand; Sessegnon, Henderson, Muntari, Richardson; Welbeck, Gyan

Liverpool XI: Reina; Carragher, Agger, Skrtel, Johnson; Spearing, Lucas; Kuyt, Meireles, Suarez; Carroll

After Asamoah Gyan and Luis Suarez have had time to think back on their long hot summer together we’ll be capital bound to close out the season as Chelsea host Man City as the two sides scrap for continued points in the fight for the Champions League spaces. With talk that Tevez may very well have undertaken a late fitness test on his groin plenty of managers will be hotly anticipating the results – especially those vicarious enough to hand him their fantasy armband.

The chatroom will be open through all the action as the Dugout Discussion is here to close out the last gameweek of the month.

Saha was a great pick to be honest, I should have gone with him instead of Defoe.

Beattie and Davies were of course the standout picks I could never go without.

Sunderland were awful today, only 2 attempts I think, both weak and miles wide.

Not easy to know before the game of course. I'll personally never be able to have any faith in a side managed by Steve Bruce. The collapse is never far away.

Yeah I know but tire wear this year is gonna have a massive say, the FIA asked perelli to make em less durable than bridgestones used to be and they over did it. So I might have to look at people who can look after their tires like Button/Barrichello etc

Ah it wouldn't have mattered last year really, Bridgestone tyres where like rocks last year even the wets stayed in good shape. It's still gonna prob end up the same front runners so you won't be that lost. Pirelli are the only suppliers alright this year.

Ages man, the only problem I've been reading about is that if the Pirelli's degrade as badly as some people predict than there's gonna be sh!t loads of "marbles" left on the dirty lines meaning once again overtaking could get compromised as no-one's gonna want to go off line and end up spinning on all the rubber

                  doesn't sound ideal

overtaking doesn't happen enough as it is

are the rules staying the same this year with regards to tyre use then?

Pretty much, but we could see 3-4 pit stops a race. It could also mean pretty fu*ked up qualies if, say, a mid team uses a fresh set while a top team uses used rubber to save the fresh ones for the race. If's and but's though, all will be revealed next week I suppose. I'm also delighted that Melbourne's the first race again, sh!t circumstances why I know but that track deserves to be up first not one of the huge wide open modern ones like Bahrain etc.

Why do I get the feeling that Damo Fitz is going to win our league by about 1,000 points?

I don't understand any of his posts. First time I've seen "used rubber" in that context.

Hey - I'm a Yank and an *enormous* Holden fan. It's part of his appeal that he didn't hold any grudge afterwards.

And, surely, coupled with his previous injury, the boy's paid his dues.

I wish that Evans had the stones to be a big enough pr!ck to have meant any malice in that clash, but he surely doesn't. >sigh<

I think it was Andy who apparently revealed the secret to protection on here to a few people before deleting his comment.

From the ensuing discussion all I could garner was that the end of a player's protection hangs off a quirk in the software related to the Press Association data feeds used by FPL. That's if I understood it right.

Maybe so for the underlying explanation, but the implication from Andy was that it is extremely easy to know exactly when protection has ended for a player.

At this stage of the season, I don't really care. But I will find out for next year!

Im not that expert in rises/drops but as far as i understand, protection starts as soon as a player has his flag removed on FPL or is a new player in FPL. At this stage, the "protected" player has his NTIs/NTOs reset to zero and all transfers In/OUT for the next 7-9 days(I really dont know the exact protection period)will not count.
Portection has been so random this year that its not easy to predict who FPL protects or not.. but generally those with long injuries and those suspended(i think) get protection.
RVP had his yellow flag removed in FPL on 14th of March.. So protection will end this week. The 400% u can see on FPL will be reset to zero and he will now need around 25K NTI to rise by 0.1..
Hope im not wrong with this stuff..

Sometimes big points hits work and the result is spectacular.

Most times they don't work out that well, though, and you get a red arrow and slip about several thousand places down the world rankings.

Let gw33 take care of itself. Some of the games might get rescheduled to still take place in gw33 anyway.

Right now I'd look at RVP in for Tevez if he survives the international break.

Adam looks like he'll do more for you than Meireles too.

Your defence isn't at all bad. Kelly may be back for gw 31. Kolarov for Luiz is better than Huth for Luiz. Huth will still get you points, goals and cleanies. But that move can wait till gw32.

My game is level on points and we both took a 4 point hit. Who goes through?

In the event of a tie, the higher team overall after the gameweek goes through or the GW29 position/seeding will be used if overall points are equal.

Check your history page. I haven't deleted the teams yet & it wouldn't update until next gameweek anyway.

Id say the time to get carroll would have been as soon as he returned from injury. However now youve seen him not make an impression in the game yesterday now would in fact be the time you would consider other options.

Fair point, this. I got Carroll when he made his comeback (nice and cheap) but I probably would hang on til GW34 for him now. Saying that, he did have one cleared off the line yesterday, and I can see him causing WBA some problems- it's just not a great run of fixtures.

    Guys.

My rival is 31 pts behind and has Tevez, Hernandez and Saurez up front. I have Bent, RVP and Zigic.

Do you think its worth me getting Saurez for Bent just to take away one of the better differentials he has over me?

Saurez looks like he'll hoover up bonus pts whereas Bent looks like he's going to do jack most weeks.

Or should I just get Rooney in, which is my preferred choice.

    Morning all,

Through in the cup and my highest rank ever.

Made an early transfer. Djourou to Luiz.

Still got Zigic tho. Are people hangin on in hope he plays in the double?

I've still got him and was considering hanging on until the double, then swapping him for Welbeck. After seeing Sunderland's poor performance yesterday, Welbeck's obviously very far from full fitness and with their raft of injuries I might just cut my losses and dump Zigic for DJ Campbell. Blackpool have 4 straight home games against teams with leaky defences.

I think Zigic has already gone down 0.2. Surely he cant go down much more? Not sure if it's worth the hit for me to get rid.

Not worth it for a hit, I think, although that's what I'll probably have to do.

    Hmmmm...

In the fantasy cup, my opponent got 57 but also took a 4 pt hit, whilst I got 53. So that's a draw.

    We both had 3 goalscorers.
    We both had 0 assists.

Will he go through being a higher rank, or is there another coefficient?

Does anyone have any ideas when the following games, put back due to cup semi finals, are likely to be fixed?
    Newcastle vs MUFC
    City vs Spurs
    Stoke vs Wolves
    Fulham vs Bolton
Need to start planning for a massive double gameweek
