The international break has brought our Fantasy dealings to an uncomfortable halt – a most untimely distraction that can furrow brows with further injury concerns.

To this point, the majority of Fantasy Managers will have come out of the weekend unscathed, but with Tuesday’s round of qualifiers and friendlies to come, here’s a few scribbles on some notable events of the last 48-hours…

Kevin Doyle is, so far, the only major casualty of the weekend. That will provide little compensation for Wolves who are now facing up to their season run-in without their influential strike. Doyle suffered a knee injury in Saturday’s 2-1 win for the Republic of Ireland over Macedonia after just 15 minutes. Republic boss Giovanni Trapattoni was not optimistic in his post-match analysis…

“It’s his medial knee ligament. I think he may be out for one or two months, so it’s a very serious injury.”

There is no official reaction from the Wolves camp just yet but Mick McCarthy will no doubt be devastated by the news. Sylvan Ebanks-Blake now looks set to lead the attack for the remaining fixtures. Blake is a 4.9 prospect in the Fantasy Premier League game and may earn some interest if Wolves continue their strong form over what is a favourable schedule of fixtures. Nenad Milijas could also have his stock improved as a result of gaining spot-kick duties from Doyle, although Stephen Hunt is another candidate here having recently declared himself fit for a return.

Man City remain hopeful that Micah Richards will recover from a hamstring injury to be in contention for their FA Cup semi-final with United on April 16. Richards sustained the injury whilst on duty with England’s U21’s – forced off after just 4 minutes of Thursday’s 4-0 win. Richards is certain to miss league fixtures against Sunderland and Liverpool, with either Jereome Boateng or Pablo Zabaleta set for the right-back role. The latter would seem very doubtful having been granted indefinite compassionate leave to be at the bedside of his seriously ill father in Argentina. It means that Boateng looks set for the shirt, which would seem to assure Aleksandar Kolarov’s place at left-back for gameweek 31 at least.

The Gareth Bale situation going into gameweek 31 looks precarious for his Fantasy owners. Bale was forced out of Wales’ clash with England with a hamstring injury which may or may not have occurred whilst in training with his national side. Regardless, Bale will now be a doubt for the trip to Wigan next weekend. Harry Redknapp has recently confirmed that Bale has not suffered a serious setback, however, it’s clear that he will take no risks with his star asset…

“The first I heard of it was at 10 o’clock on Wednesday night when our physio called
me. I feared the worst but he’s seen our physio and it’s only tightness…There’s no tear but if he plays and it pings, he’s had it.”

Saturday’s Wigan clash immediately precedes the first leg of the Champions League tie with Real Madrid on Tuesday. If there is any doubt over Bale’s hamstring, he will surely sit out of the DW Stadium trip.

On that note, Both Luka Modric and Rafael Van der Vaart started their respective friendlies this weekend. Modric played 90 minutes in Croatia’s 1-0 defeat in Greece, while Van der Vaart was withdrawn on 81 minutes having scored in Holland’s 4-0 over Hungary.

Nikola Zigic was kept out of Serbia’s 2-1 win over Northern Ireland on Friday with his groin injury still troubling him. Birmingham have been sweating on the big striker’s fitness ahead of the international break and are hopeful that, although Zigic has joined up with the Serbian squad, he will be kept out of the action. Serbia face Estonia in a second qualifier on Tuesday – it will be interesting to see if Zigic makes an appearance in that one. The lumbering centre-forward could well be a target for Fantasy Managers once fit given Birmingham’s forthcoming schedule (BOL bla SUN/che liv WOL new).

Javier Hernandez scored twice in Mexico’s 3-1 friendly win over Paraguay – a timely reminder, if Alex Ferguson really needed one, of the “Little Pea’s” current run of form.

West Ham fans will have admired Scott Parker’s showing for England in the 2-0 win over Wales but he wasn’t their only player to come out of the weekend with plaudits. Demba Ba continued his run of outstanding displays by grabbing a late winner for Senegal in the 1-0 African Nations Cup qualifier in Cameroon. The form of such key player bodes well for Avram Grant ahead of what is quite simply a tortuous run of forthcoming fixtures (MUN bol AVL che mcy).

Finally, Luis Suarez has been recalling his first month of action in the Premier League, predictably emphasising that he’s never experienced such a frantic pace. Significantly however, Suarez also came out with this…

“In other leagues defences play very tight but here you get space. I’m enjoying it.”

Suarez may have been referring to his recent goal at Sunderland in that respect – perhaps not the best example of Premier league defending right now. Even so, it’s food for thought given the goalscoring record of the Uruguayan before arriving in England. Suarez has so far notched 2 goals and 3 assists in his four Premier League starts and Fantasy Managers are beginning to take notice. Suarez has so far attracted over 27,000 new owners this gameweek, bettered only by Robin Van Persie, Charlie Adam and David Luiz.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I'm unsure whether Stannah Stairlifts have got their online marketing targetted at the right market segment given I've just seen their advert on FFS! I'm probably one of the oldest on this site at 43 and it's fair to say I'm a few years off needing help up the stairs. Anyone at that point yet or older?

Doesn't seem like much FPL talk is going on around here these days, but was wondering if anyone could do the old fashioned thing and give me some advice.

Looking to get Lampard in but very difficult to decide how to. Any suggestions? Also looking to do Coleman>Luiz.

A lot don't think Luiz will start against Stoke, and even if he does Stoke have scored in most of their home games this year, 13 in 15 I think although don't quote me on that....

Because if he does then we'll have to go into the Champions League game with Utd playing a centre back pairing (Alex and Terry) that won't have played together for 4 months. Also, do you not think Alex is better suited to dealing with Stoke's particular style of play? I certainly do.

Strongbad - why do you want to get rid of Coleman? Everton's fixtures are still good for a while, and his place is looking secure once again.

A few chelsea fans, jamsiep included. Because they say he is weak in the air and the Alex - Terry partnership deserves a run, especially because that's the most likely one against United in the CL soon after, ask jamsiep he can be clearer on this.

I personally can't see it, especially after Alex being out for so long and can Carlo really justify dropping Luiz for no reason when he can't play in the CL. I could see Alex taking Terrys spot every now and again as Terry is gonna have to play both competetion and did Carlo not say a while back that Terry is no longer 100% nailed on now?!

Nani moved to the left poss??
VDV rested for the CL for one or two weeks?
          Young 2,2,18,2,2,1,

I have the same midfield, and need to do the same thing, so I'm watching those three with interest this week

Welbeck for me I think, as he has fixtures and is VERY cheap
Carroll good option for a bit more
Ba is cheap and good, but crap fixtures,
SEB a possibility, but prob end up on the bench for me every week.

Nasri has been the player this season who whenever I've had has been shocking for me.... When he scored his brace against Fulham I went for Arshavin instead and I also took him out the week before he scored at Birmingham, which was at the time a logical move but it went totally wrong.

    The scores he's got whilst being in my team are 2, 1, 3, 3, 3, 5.

Until recently Arteta was that man for me. In the first 13 weeks I had him for three of them, in two separate spells and his scores were:

      2, 2, 2, 2, 2

The other eight weeks when I didn't have him (and his fixtures were lesser favourable, hence why I didn't have him) he scored:

      5, 7, 2, 6, 6, 8, 6, 9

      It was soul destroying! 😛

Oh I remember that night when he scored the luckiest goal against Sunderland and robbed Cahill's bonus points, you were raging like most the site. 😀

One of the reasons I want to get Fabregas this week.... I've had him literally whenever he's been fit this season so if he scored big against Blackburn or Blackpool and I didn't have him it would be horrible....

Okay folks, I *think* that I've narrowed my transfer decision down to one thing:

    Terry/O'Hara vs Elokobi/VDV

Before you all giggle like little girls, there is some logical in the Elokobi transfer. If I go down that route I only have 3.9 to spend on a Djourou replacement, and the player I bring in I'll need to play in weeks 34, 36 and 38 - Wolves have FUL/stk, WBA, BLA in those weeks.

It basically all comes down to how much I want to keep VDV. Signs from the last couple of games haven't been great (crazy deep vs WHU and there's always the risk of being shunted out wide if 'Arry opts for two up top). BUT, Spurs do have decent fixtures - despite losing the double - and I'm fairly reluctant to lose such a set piece whore, as well as someone who has scored fantastically throughout the year.

Also, I'll have Luiz too, so perhaps getting Terry in isn't so much of a necessity?

      Elokobi and VdV definitely.

A Wolves defender for me wouldn't be such a bad pick, good fixtures and I remember near the end of last season they started playing ugly to get results and it worked and they stayed up. Can definitely see Mad Mick setting them out this way again for the run in.

He's staying for the West Ham, and then possibly the Fulham one too... It depends on which combo I'd rather that week. Either:

                Arshavin (blp) & Rooney (FUL)

                or:

                Lampard (WIG) & Gyan (WBA)

I've decided that fixtures matter less than form this season- hence why I'll be keeping rooney for the forseeable.

Walcott is much better value if fit imo this year

Fabs deeper compared to last and when and if Arsenal hammer teams Fabs rarely does much going on this seasons form.

    Help me boys and girls.........

Going to get rid of Rooney this week, can't decide on which striker though. I don't really need a cheap striker to be able to afford Lampard and Luiz so I could get Suarez in?

Also looking at the likes of Zamora and Sturridge maybe?

Because I don't want him for the next 3 weeks and I know if I keep him for this week it won't be nice getting rid of him before Fulham at home or Newcastle away.

Plus I can see the West Ham game being quite a tight one, so just going to gamble really. Also so I can get Fabregas in this week. 🙂

+1. along with fabregas home to west ham, home to newcastle, countless other frustrating times. last season when he was fit he seemed to produce 9 times out of 10, this season for whatever reason it's not happening.

Lets be honest, getting rid of Rooney this week is a foolish move and is bound to come back and haunt you.

I thought we'd sorted this problem of constant rash transfers last season? Don't fall back into the same hole.

Well I'm above you so maybe you should make some 'rash' transfers now and again.

Right so if I get rid of Rooney this week it will be a foolish move? As it will the next week and the week after that, so I'll be stuck with a striker playing left wing for 3 weeks.

I would keep Roon this week since I see doubts with your other 2 strikers...Tevez may have the groin injury and RVP will have played 2 int'l games over 4 days

at least wait for more news on Tev and RVP...if Tev is out wouldn't you want to downgrade him?

You're five points ahead of him, there's no point playing the I can piss for half a second longer than you card. Well done on that.

Given that you have the likes of Djourou and Tevez (out of him and Rooney he should be well ahead on any scrap-heap) in your squad it doesn't seem that prescient to take a hit to sell Nasri & Rooney to Fabs & whoever this week. But I'm 35 points behind you, so what do I know.

Yeah, nice one, I did think of that but Jamsie and a few Chelsea fans think Alex might start against Stoke? Not really sure.

Anyway, the main reason for getting rid of Rooney is cos of wanting Fabregas in again and also cos I don't want him for the next 3 weeks, which I know if I keep him this week I'll be reluctant to get rid next week or the week after. 🙂

Lampard has dome little to justify his price other then take penalties...I'd go with the 2 CHE defenders and get a mid for the next DGW like Dempsey

Would i be mad to get rid of Rooney for Beckford so i can double up on Chelsea defenders and keep either VDV or Young. From GW32 It will give me:

    Luiz Terry Coleman
    Fabregas Lampard Nani Adam VDV/Young
    RVP Brckford.

    As opposed to
    Luiz Walker Coleman
    Fabregas Lampard Nani Adam O'Hara
    Rooney RVP

Got Tevez, Yaya and Kolarov in my team currently, as well as Berbatov that doesn't look to good. Someone has to go, but I don't know who...

Way to go RTE news. 20min main news for the day at prime time:

    2min on a murder.
    Under 2min on Libya,
2min on Nuclear Reactor in Japan.
Then 3 mins on the Gaa league.

Where mosts of the teams field youngsters in empty stadiums and are on record saying its meaningless and cant wait to get it out of the way

    Odd.

So is it odd the word or indeed the 3 letter structure repeated within any other word.

If you were to persist in ignoring the latter it would be a shoddy and indeed cloddish road to take........

I like the league in a minor way. Its more about the mixing up of priorities.

The thing is that programme would have been planned to the second at board level. So they made a conscious decision to give the League more coverage than the other 3.

tempted to go with a super midfield for a few weeks:

    foster, begovic
    luiz, coleman, walker, kelly, simpson
    lamps, vdv, nani, nasri, young
rvp, suarez, 6.9? (welbeck, sturridge, beckford, hernandez)
