Man City have a selection problem at right-back with Jerome Boateng their latest defensive casualty following the recent injury to Micah Ricards. Boateng has been ruled out of Germany’s friendly with Australia with a knee injury with reports today stating that has reported back to the club, with the German Football Federation indicating that he will need surgery.

This latest setback will hand Roberto Mancini a lack of options at right-back ahead of the weekend clash with Sunderland given that Richards is also out, while Pablo Zabaleta is on indefinite compassionate leave in Argentina.

For Fantasy Managers this news could mean two things – firstly, City’s defensive resolve, which has come under question in recent weeks, is again set to be tested by a lively Sunderland attack. Secondly, this surely assures Aleksandar Kolarov a start at left-back given that Mancini now has such few resources available in defensive areas.

Kolarov has been highly suspect in a defensive capacity all season – however, he has begun to deliver goals, albeit outside of the Premier League. His frequent forays forward and goal attempts from distance, courtesy of his powerful left peg, have been a regular feature of City’s play. He is yet to turn those into big Fantasy hauls, but his owners will feel that a couple of double figure returns could still be on the cards before the season draws to a close. Kolarov’s role has been far from secure given his defensive frailties, but the Serb would now seem likely to start, at least until Zabaleta returns to the club.

Dedryck Boyata could now get the nod at right-back when the Black Cats arrive at Eastlands – the young Belgian defender is available for just 4.0 in the Fantasy Premier League game and has made just two league starts this term – in the 1-0 gameweek win over Chelsea and in gameweek 9 when he saw red after just 4 minutes.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Same. If only Spurs were more consistent.

I've really enjoyed watching Spurs in the Champs League this year. It's been good as well to be able to fully support another team in Europe without an ulterior motive.

Plus I don't like watching City really, and the only thing I enjoyed of them in Europe this season was Mario Balotelli's inability to put a bib on.

Just reading through the comments and saw the mobile phone contract chat. Anyone planning to upgrade / get a new phone contract (or Sky / Virgin contract, electricity or gas etc):

Go to a cashback website like http://www.quidco.com/ or http://www.topcashback.co.uk/ - they will offer you something like £100 to £150 cashback for signing up to a 2 year mobile contract.

Here's the good bit - you don't even need to sign up and wait for the cashback to come through. Ring up, say, Vodafone, tell them about the cashback deal you've seen, and they'll knock the same amount off the cost of the contract (might take a small amount of haggling, but not a lot).

I got £120 off a 2 year Vodafone contract by doing this.

Check the cashback they offer on other stuff as well - I've had about £200 back overall from things like Sky, gas and electricity, stuff from Play.com, electrical goods etc.

The Game Podcast, which is the Times newspaper's football podcast. Probably need to get it thru itunes, the Times website is paywalled. Gabriele Marcotti is the main guy on it, he's very good.

      And the Scoutcast, obviously!

It was better when Phil Jupitus was chairing it, but I really like Marcotti - good at starting an argument and at playing devil's advocate.

It's the closest to Football Weekly that I've found.

      Football Weekly (given)
      Football Ramble
      ITV Sport Football
      606 Football Phone-In
      Official Barclays Premier League Podcast
      Off The Ball

The 606 one is the only one I listen to week-in week-out, but the Ramble is good. I sometimes find them a bit irritating though at times.

I also find that Zonalmarking fella on the Football Weekly podcast irritating the way he pronounces his S's.

That's just the football ones. I rarely listen to them tbh, but the 606 is usually good comedy value. Some of the stuff people come out with is funny as.

I'm in the same boat with Djourou - my transfer plans mean I have to stick with him until GW34 unless I take a hit, and taking a hit for a 4.3 defender doesn't make a lot of sense (unless I'm struggling to put a back 3 out).

What are you doing about Djourou?

Although Rohan doesn't make it very well, you could say he's got a point about Messi - human growth hormones are banned in sport. Obviously Messi took them for medical reasons, but it could be a bit of a grey area in the future.

I don't know how much you have in the bank.

Probably not much though since you have Hart, Evra, Baines and Luiz.

If you're going to have an expensive keeper I'd suggest Cech instead of Hart. Especially since you won't be able to afford Lamps too easily.

Evening all. I'm in need of some Chelsea cover in my team. I'm considering either Nani/VDV/Nasri > Lamps.

Prob wont have the balls to oust Nani and with a DGW for Arsenal coming up Nasri is not probably ideal either. Any thoughts about VDV > Lamps? After watching VDV against West Ham, the guy just doesn't seem fit to me.

    Hi

I would love some help with my linked team. I need to get rid of Saha and want RVP. Unfortunately life is not that simple as I do not have the funds. He are a few of my thoughts so far. Any bright ideas. Should I just hold fire this week and hope RVP has a quiet one..

    Saha to RVP
    Defoe to Sturridge

    or

    Saha to RVP
    Nasri to Ohara/Adam

I need a small cash balance to upgrade Koralov to Luiz in due course/

      RvP's last 6 scores (when playing): 16,15,7,12,13,9

Hoping he has a quiet one is a pretty big risk imo - a risk that I would gladly pay 4 points to avoid.

I'd go for option 2 (assuming Adam is fit - wait til Friday or Saturday morning before you do the transfer.)

Cheers, 1966 was a ....., that is what I was thinking.

Out of my midfielders, would you be getting rid of Nasri too. I have VDV or Young as the other viable alternatives.

It's really tricky - take your pick out of those 3 midfielders. I've got Nasri and VDV, no Young.

VDV has CL rotation issues (and rarely completes 90 mins recently), Nasri could be rotated with Arshavin and Walcott, Young seems to get a big score or nothing.

Heard this name once or twice mentioned briefly on podcasts or on the radio. Who was Overmars?

I vaguely remember his name from Fifa '01 (?) or something similar, but it's a bit before my time...

        Makes me feel old.

Actually, being able to remember Dalglish in his prime (one of my fave players growing up as a kid) makes me feel old.

Overmars was like the van Persie of his day. But shorter, faster and considerably more gay.

    Begovic(Foster)
    Coleman.Dawson.RJohnson(Djourou.Kelly)
    Nani.Nolan.VdV.Nasri.AYoung
    RvP.Tevez (Odem)

Should I save my transfer this week? I know I have to get rid of my injured players, but I think I can save the transfer and do two next GW.

You can field a good back three, so don't take the hit for Djourou.

In the long term, Welbeck is a good choice, he might not do much this week though.
