Carlos Tevez is rated as 50:50 for a return to action in the FA Cup Final according to reports surfacing this morning.

The striker’s hamstring tear is currently being assessed by Argentina’s team Doctor in Milan and is due to return to Eastlands to start his rehabilitation although, as yet, no date has been set for Tevez’s arrival back in Manchester. Today’s articles suggest that Roberto Mancini is due to consult his medical staff to receive an update on the situation and to make a decision on whether Tevez should make his return from Italy this week.

The latest reports appear to confirm the initial prognosis that had estimated a four-week absence for Tevez; despite the player’s own desire to play in the final, it’s clear that he is set to struggle to make the Wembley date. Realistically then, with speculation also surrounding his future at the club, Tevez may have made his last appearance for City.

For Fantasy Managers the absence of Tevez could prove significant – particularly when you begin to assess City’s end of season run-in and the prospect presented by Mario Balotelli.

City face a tricky trip to Ewood this weekend, but follow that with a run of three home matches in four with West Ham, Tottenham and Stoke all visiting Eastlands. The absence of Tevez would seem likely to cement a starting role for Balotelli – a realistic consideration up front for a Fantasy Premier League fee of 7.9. The young Italian is a far from a reliable prospect given his tendency to attract controversy and bookings but, with Edin Dzeko struggling to settle in the Premier League, Mancini’s faith in Balotelli to lead his attack looks solid.

Balotelli has scored 6 goals in 10 Premier League starts with a single assist and 6 FPL Bonus Points to his name. With 5 appearances from the bench, the striker has picked up 5 yellow cards and a red in his first season in the league. Always keen to be involved from set-plays, Balotelli would also seem likely to be granted penalty-taking duties with Tevez out of the side having already converted from the spot this season.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Extremely close between me and the mini-league rival going into the final furlong of this gameweek. We run a weekly competition so a wee bit of money is on the line. Who do you fancy?

ME (68 points) - Carr, VDV, Lamps(c), RVP
    HIM (71 points) - Malouda, RVP(c)

    (Both have Foster and Luiz)

I think I've put up a good fight considering he broke out the wild card this week and "stole" my Baines and A.Young differentials.

"It is certainly difficult to be booed by your own club than by the club fans where you not yet belong" - Manuel Neuer.

Manuel Neuer in tears at the Schalke press conference.

Schalke have revealed they respect goalkeeper Manuel Neuer's decision to reject a new contract as he prepares for a summer move.

Neuer told the club's official website: "I have taken this decision without any external influence.

"The decision has nothing to do with the change of coach or any other person at another club

Who is he going to? You would think he would be linked to United even more than he is considering this situation but the media seem insitent that De Gea will replace VDS.

P.S. "than by the club fans where you not yet belong”. He speaks like Master Yoda!

Yeah, the media are really adamant that de gea will go to Man united in the summer. I'd imagine the only other club for Neuer, if not man united, would be Bayern Munich. They need a new keeper aswell and are the firm favourites to land him.

However he'd be hated by the schalke fans if he did go there though.

        Neuer's off to Bayern apparently.

I'm surprised by the De Gea stuff, I don't think United would spend the money on him myself. Buffon is a free agent in the summer, I think Lord Ferg would rather have someone with more experience.

I think at this point United need to invest long term in a keeper and the De Gea move makes most sense, get the position sorted and filed away for a good period of time, replacing a keeper is one of those pain in the ass transfers because your team can ultimately succeed or fail on the basis of how good the keeper is.

Buffon would be a temporary fix to a long term problem, and, he is a c*ck too.

I agree, he would, but De Gea might have 15, I know players rarely stay that long these days, but it seems to me that once a keeper is happy, he stays, in any event, my response is based more on my preference, and Fergie has certainly gone for experience over youth in the past

I find it utterly disgusting that while real people are having pay cuts/freezes, getting laid off from work and just general cuts left, right and centre, etc. tax payers money will be spent (on security and probably elsewhere tbh) on an already ridiculously over-privileged bunch of people.

Technically, yes it pretty much would.

But I don't buy that argument fully, as if they want a lavish ceremony and everything that goes with it (and the extra security needed) then they can bloody well pay for it all themselves. Just like the common folk have to. It's not as if they're struggling along now is it.

The extra security alone is estimated to be around the £20M mark (how accurate that is, I have no idea), but how many nurses, policemen, firemen, etc, etc. could be kept in employment or not have to suffer pay cut/freezes, while these blood-line-lottery-winners enjoy an even more lavish lifestyle.

Anyway, my two cents on the matter.

I want double GW strike but all of them are away next fixture and I wan a lot of City players. 3 City and 2 Tot IMO. Why to waste the transfer and don't use it for Yaya next or Lescott next GW?

            Ha!
Yeah we did well, they were doing most of the pressing but we handled it alright. Giggs missed a pretty easy chance and Krul did a brilliant save in the first minutes to deny Hernandez
Two penalty shouts - one a dive by Hernandez, the other was more a decent call (not that I'm biased) but Lovenkrands made the most of it and the ref didn't give it either.
Just mind out for those tiger sharks when you go diving 😉

    fabs/lamps/VDV/Adam/Walters
    RVP/Zamora/Gyan

Fabs/VDV because of form at the moment.
    Adam maybe out.

        I was thinking that.
Sunderland will come good sooner that later is my fear
Blackburn have lost the 5 of last 6 away games.
So this could be their kickstart!

If adam doesnt play then I am sorted.

          Haha, very true.

So if I keep him I'll be keeping a £10m valued player for Everton, Arsenal, Chelsea and Blackburn away. Really don't see how he is going to hurt much with those games.

I've been dead against it, but I'm slowly coming round to the idea of selling him. Given he's played the last two while Valencia has been on the bench, I wouldn't be surprised if he was on the bench this weekend in preparation for the CL game next week.

I was born in Switzerland in 1970, after playing for a few Swiss clubs I moved to an Italian club. I then moved to an English side which is where I am best remembered. I recieved 34 international caps and played at Euro 96 and 1998 World Cup.

What do you reckon? If I have Nasri, Adam, Bramble and Gordon to get rid of, and I have 2 free transfers this week?

Obviously Nasri is fit, but he's also taking up a lot of cash too.

Wunder Team was the name given to the Austria national football team of the 1930s. Led by manager Hugo Meisl, the team had an unbeaten streak of 14 games between April 1931 and December 1932. The style of the team was based on the Scottish school of football that focused on quick passing introduced by Englishman Jimmy Hogan.

The ill-fated Austrian "Wunderteam" of the 1930s is also credited in some circles as being the first national team to play Total Football. It is no coincidence that Ernst Happel, a talented Austrian player in the 1940s and 1950s, was coach in the Netherlands in the late 1960s and early 1970s. He introduced a tougher style of play at ADO Den Haag and Feyenoord. Happel managed the Netherlands national team in the 1978 World Cup, where they again finished as runners-up. Hungary also had a big role in laying down the tactical fundaments of Total Football in the 1950s, dominating international football with the remarkable Golden Team which included legends like captain Ferenc Puskás.

As you said Hogan also coached in Hungary where he was also hugely influential...so perhaps he sowed some of the seeds of total football...nothing to do with Cruyff directly (sorry)
