Matthew Etherington has sustained a hamstring injury in Stoke’s victory over Wolves tonight which threatens to end his season and rob him of a start in the FA Cup Final.

The former Spurs winger was stretchered from the field at the Britannia after 31 minutes of the 3-0 win after pulling up whilst attempting to beat his man.

Etherington was named in our Scout Pick selection for the gameweek and attracted interest for Stoke’s double fixture with over 75,000 Fanatsy Premier League managers drafting him in. The winger, who has been a reliable contributor of Fantasy returns when fit, will now be a major doubt for the trip to Blackpool this weekend and his season could be in doubt.

Tony Pulis stated post-match that Etherington will undergo a scan tomorrow so we should get a full prognosis in the next 24-hours…

“It would be a massive disappointment if Matty misses the final, but we will know more when he has had the scan…We’ve got 18 days to get him right which means seven or eight days to get it right and then 10 days to get it as strong as possible.”

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Is it mental to go for AJ over Yaya?

    Thinking Nani & Ethers -> Kuyt & Yaya/AJ

Also thinking of playing Baird this week (all going well tomorrow) with Sunderlands attacking woes.

AJ is a good shout, has a decent scoring record. I prefer the security of yaya playing for longer periods in most games.

Yaya is definatly the safer bet, desperate to get in the top 1k, not sure now if I should be looking at the safer bets or gambling.

Either can pay off, you dont need to gamble too much to get into the top 1k. Me and a friend have had very similar teams but a bit of good luck with captains has made me build over a 100 point lead in the mini league.

born January 1951, He made more than 500 appearances in the Football League, playing for 3 first divison teams and amassing 12 england caps.

He is widely considered to be one of Englands best ever players in his position and was one particular clubs player of the season for six seasons in a row.

He scored 30 goals in the 1977–78 season, winning a £10,000 prize offered by a national newspaper for the first footballer to reach that number in a single season.

          Thank you wikipedia, hehe

Tough one, 1951 so he must have been mainly in the 70's.... bit before my time. Hard to think of someone who was that highly rated but didn't get many caps, was it Latchford or someone else?
Most goals in a game or something for the record?

Fletcher was a woeful signing for the money, that would have been better spent on a decent centre half.

His tactics he has employed this year have been dreadful too - no idea why Mancienne has never played at CB either.

They have been unlucky with the Doyle injury but have still havent been good enough.

So many championship players that should have been let go last summer too, like Ebanks Blake, Stearman, Foley, Zubar, Dave Jones etc. etc.

They have never improved their defence, they still have the same defence who leaked goals in the Championship. Just basically spent all the money in the wrong areas.

Why sign him back and not make him your permanent centre half? Hes so much better than Berra/Stearman/Fanny Craddock

he's spent the majority of his money on milijas and fletcher then not backed them at all, benching them. not sure why fletcher is getting such criticism. he's scored goals when he's played

i also don't think it helps to have a team of relegation artists. almost their whole team is used to getting relegated from the top flight.

Sticking with old favourites of his has been a big problem. Berra and Henry being two of them, it also took him a while to drop Dave Jones earlier in the season.

Also, what the f*ck happened with Moukoyoulo and Van Damme? He bought them two for a total of £4m, one of them barely gets on the bench and the other went back to Liege or whatever, extremely poor business.

Then we on the other hand get Nicky Shorey for 700k and Steven Reid & Paul Scharner boths on frees, all proven in this league.

Yeah you did get some bargains there. I wouldnt have minded Scharner at Bolton to be honest.

Took a while for some fans to warm to Scharner but he really is brilliant, good in the tackle, can pass the ball, is a little slow but has overall been great for Mulumbu's development more than anything.

Shorey is probably one of our most consistent players these days, doesn't often have a bad game. Just Mr consistent.

I did love Robbo though, bit of a legend!

Yeah, to be fair though, of the players I mentioned above, Shorey hardly played under Di Matteo, Cech he is crap defensively was first choice and Reid has only come in for Jara since Hodgson has been in charge and our defence has improved hugely since.

Scharner has played in defence like 3 times, he plays in midfield.

Our defence before Hodgson was in charge...

                    Jara, Tamas, Olsson, Cech

Eurgh! Like Mick McCarthy, he had his favourites, 3 of them in Jara, Tamas & Cech, all who were good in the Championship but simply aren't good enough for this league. Bit unfair on Jara who is actually a good player just not a right back!

Nani must be pretty certain to start at the weekend but I'm sure this is what happened before, he was rested in a CL game and then again at the weekend. Suppose it could happen again as Fergie might want a more solid set up at Arsenal and then let Nani do his thing in the 2nd leg.

Re Silva, I think he'll play, I think after the Lverpool game where Mancini admitted to getting things wrong, one was to drop Silva & De Jong, Silva is too important for City at the mo IMO so I don't think u need to worry about his starting position.

I would have said the same about their last three games, but they still scored 9. I know from experience that the Spurs defence isn't much kop at the moment, and Villa will have given up by the last day. I fancy Pool to keep battling to the end for the Europa spot and to keep Kenny's momentum up.

I need to replace Gyan and I don't trust the Man City strikers. Other suggestions would be gratefully received.

I have Zamora and Sturridge like many people I guess. If Sturridge plays, can we please have a 4-4 scoreline tomorrow with those two footballers destroying the opponent nets?

Could use some more points. But yet again, many people have captained them so it will be a mess. Maybe better a 1-1 scoreline with those two as scorers. Sounds ok...

Alright lads how does this sound... A.Young --> D. Silva?

    A. Young has west brom (a) and wigan (h) then liverpool + Arsenal

    D. Silva had west ham, Double game week (EVE-TOT), stoke and bolton.

Who will score the most points from here to the rest of the season?

    Hi guys,

Thoughts on who to bench this week

    Foster (Begovic)
    Luiz, Handgeland, Johnson, Walker, Djourou
Nani, VDV, Lampard, Adam, Yaya Toure
    RVP, Rooney, Odemwingie

    Walker, Djourou and .........
My thoughts are Nani or VDV but it's a big risk

    Thanks

That was a good game for a neutral in my opinion.

First things first, Manchester United are great. So much quality in every department, and Wayne Rooney impressed me more tonight than he has done in a long long time. Valencia also impressive, especially how he uses his first touch to get into a better position at every opportunity even if it doesn't look technically great.

Rangnick should take a big share of the blame for the poor Schalke performance imo, it was always naive to play a 433 and leave the three forwards so high up the pitch when United were attacking. They left ridiculously much space between the defence and midfield where Rooney and Giggs were allowed to turn with the ball uncontested. Entertaining wise a game like this - 442 vs 433 - is so much better than the standard 4231 of today though. It's kind of killing the joy of football to pack the midfield like so many teams does today.

People will obviously have talked this to death already but Manuel Neuer is insanely good. I've rarely seen a player so single handedly keep a great attack out like he did in the first half. It's lovely to see a goalkeeper of his quality in the form he is in with the confidence it brings. Immense.

Lastly, it's a privilege to watch Giggs and Raul play today in the later stages of their careers. The honesty and - this word is used too often but is appropriate here - class with which they play should be used for every younger player as an inspiration, even if Raul didn't have the game of his life today and didn't get much service.

Oh, and I'm having a bit of a stormer in FPL 😉

SD - If you care, I can't find the actual interview but he said something along the lines of his former side passing to feet and that Wolves play a lot differently as they play ahead of the man over the top or with through balls (could be vice versa), he said he hoped he should adjust easily, but it appears he didn't.

What's the thoughts on Biblotelli now?

Besides being a crazy mofo, Dzeko finally found the net so is his place that certain?

I would fancy a gamble on him but bit worried about his starting place now but if Carrolls out or
I wanna get rid of Zamora next week strikers seem slim picking at mid to low price.

Thinking about a Spurs striker, Pavlyuchenko has actually been in pretty good form looking at his returns and Defoe scored on the weekend. Two hits over next two GWs could get me Silva, Yaya, VDV & Defoe/ Pav. Both teams attacks well covered. Like you I'm not too keen on Biblotelli. Takes ridiculous shots, was pretty much the only City attacker to not score any points in the 5-0 thrashing, and card magnet.

Pav Crouchy Defoe competing for 2 spots doesn't appeal, can't really guarantee game time for any. Spurs coverage for me might just stick with Dawson & VDV, maybe Lennon or Modric as well if I fancy a gamble.

Staying away from Spurs defenders, they dont do too many clean sheets. Pav has actually played a lot since he came back, starting 7 of the last 8 games. The one he didnt start Spurs didnt score. Definitely a gamble but could be a worthwhile one - better gamble than Balotelli I think especially since City can be well covered with 2 mids Silva & Yaya/ AJ

Ah you already got Dawson. Fair enough then - they could get away with a CS against Bpool and then have a ripe GW38 fixture.

Just checked your team, with 2 Spurs & 0 City players I guess the latter is the priority. What transfer are you planning this week? You could do a City mid (Silva/Yaya) and then see how the City & Spurs games go to get clues as to what will happen over the DGW.

Captain this week? If I had a Liverpool player I'd give it to him but I don't and my transfer is going to be Nani -> Silva.

Torn between Lampard, Malouda and Silva. Earlier I was more set on Silva but after looking at some stats I'm not so sure anymore.

Chelsea are averaging > 20 shots a game for last month or so while City are around 10. That said, Chelsea share points around more while for City Silva I reckon is likely to be involved in almost anything they do. Both are up against porous defenses. Malouda is on a hot streak but Lampard the guaranteed starter. Cannot make up my mind! Opinions?

Interesting thought guys, might have been covered but what's the betting Carroll isn't quite fit enough for the weekend, reason 1 being they dont need to rush him back really. Reason 2, against the Geordies, is his head gonna be really in it? Reason 3 whos Kenny gonna drop? Normally u would say Maxi but can he really do that after a hatrick? Place on the bench at best IMO.

Those with Zamora, are you sticking with him or getting rid? I fancy a transfer out for Sturridge myself, maybe see how things pan out tomorrow night. Opinions?

I'm sticking but because I can't afford to upgrade him to someone I'd want right now without points hits elsewhere. I may consider benching him this wk instead (I see Sun Ful as a low scoring game anyway).

    Millionaire Club Update

7 players would go out this week if the gameweek was finished. Stoke clean sheet has saved a few. Sturridge or the usual Fulham suspects will need to score well to save those 7.

In serious trouble in my open tie TM, he's got Dempsey +8 vs. my Salcido. The dream appears to be over.

        Nice knowing you...

Clean sheet, an assist & bonus points gets you home as long as Dempsey isn't involved.

Yep, that's being going on for 6-7 weeks. Loathe to spend the 4 points, but it has cost me points in the long run for sure.

2 dgws in a row where you lose points. Your bank balance doesn't help.

They'll keep a cleanie v City in that game. Probably concede in the other. So I believe!

"Who put the ball in the munichs net?"

Really?! That has got to be the worst chant ever! It doesnt even make sense. I sympathise with anyone involved with the tragic event but im not going to get all sentimental or whatever saying its disgusting e.t.c my issue here is that chant! Bloody ridiculous. Come on lads sort yourselves out. Jesus. How embarassing.

So, I'm sure this has been asked many times already, but Kuyt--Nani seems like the smart bet this week?
