Scouting The Doubles

Tottenham approach their double gameweek on the back of a controversial Stamford Bridge defeat last weekend but, dodgy decisions aside, have not been in the best of form of late, with just one win in the last eight league games.

For months, Harry Redknapp’s side had been vying with Man City for the all-important fourth spot that would offer the chance of Champions League football next term, but now find themselves in sixth place, overtaken by a resurgent Liverpool. Level on points with Kenny Dalglish’s men, Spurs do have a game in hand and gaining those points will be vital, considering their gameweek 37 fixture is a trip to Anfield.

Prospects

First up in the double gameweek is a home game with Blackpool this weekend and a chance to avenge the 3-1 defeat at Bloomfield Road back in February. Spurs have drawn as many games as they’ve won at home this season but have scored 8 in their last three at White Hart Lane and will surely be too much for a Blackpool side that have collected one point and conceded 18 goals in their last six trips on the road.

The second game is a tricky fixture; a trip to Eastlands, where Man City have won seven of their last eight games. Roberto Mancini’s side have also clocked up ten of their fifteen clean sheets this season at home. Spurs have failed to score on the road just once since October, however, and, knowing a win would really open up the race for fourth spot again, can’t afford to sit back and be too cautious.

Likely Lads

Clean sheets and Tottenham tend not to go hand in hand and with the side conceding 2 or more goals in six of their last eight league fixtures, it’s more than a leap of faith to suggest their defensive options offer much hope of decent returns.

Instead, it’s a couple of midfielders that seem the best bet. Rafael Van der Vaart has come back into form of late, picking up 25 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points in his last three games. With spot-kick duties factored in, it’s no surprise to see him leading our current Captain’s Poll.

He may have just 2 goals and 2 assists to his name thus far, but Luka Modric is second only to Charlie Adam in Bonus Points this season- his total of 31 is just one point shy of equalling Van der Vaart and Gareth Bale’s combined tally. Modric has been awarded Bonus in 14 of his 28 appearances- a sign of his consistency of performance.

Cheeky Punts

Gareth Bale’s recent form suggests he’d be no more than a punt for this week; his highest score in his last nine appearances has been 3 points, he has 1 goal and 1 Bonus Point in 2011 and has not assisted a Tottenham goal since gameweek 16. The chance of him tearing Blackpool apart will see much Fantasy Investment this week but with hamstring injuries to Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Vedran Corluka, there’s a possibility he could be fielded at left-back.

A look at the Tottenham forwards suggests Roman Pavlyuchenko seems the most likely bet here; the Russian is the only attacker with any guaranteed game time right now. Pavlyuchenko has started eight of Spurs’ last nine games, scoring three times in that run of fixtures, whereas Peter Crouch and Jermaine Defoe have managed eight starts between them, an indication of Redknapp’s current selection policy.

Thanks anyway, cutting it fine with cash for VdV+Pav for Nani+Sturridge...was hoping for Sturridge to be fit so I don't have to waste 4 points (and heartbreak) on Pav.

Now I will wait and hear Sturridge is out and prices will have changed...the way my luck has been going lately.

It’s my most important game in my h2h league, I’m playing 1st place, and if I win I can go top, which is pretty good after being 8th 4 weeks ago (Won 4 games in a row to go 3rd).

    Current Team:
    Foster (al-habsi)
    Djourou Simpson Luiz (RJohnson Smalling)
    Lampard Kuyt Silva Adam (Walters)
    Sturridge RVP Suarez
    0.3m
    Thinking of either doing lampard + walters/adam > VDV + Modric/YToure OR adam/walters + Suarez > VDV + Odemwingie

    He has:
    Cech (Myhill)
    Luiz Terry Clichy (Williamson Baptiste)
    Kuyt Meireles Silva Dempsey (Parker)
    RVP Bent Odemwingie

He’s probably going to get VDV in for one of his cheap midfielders. He tends to never make a hit and his players on the bench are always cheapest possible so he can spend more money on the fielded players.

    Any tips will be brilliant.

You've got exactly the same forward line as me. If you can avoid it, I'd keep them together as Suarez is playing well and Sturridge's potential score is big. If Sturridge is fit I'm playing all of those three. However, the second option is the better because you just can't afford to lose Lamps. If Chelsea win he may be central to the victory, as well as the attacking onslaught that will surely follow in the final weeks. You've got a decent side that already has Silva as DGW coverage. I wouldn't overload on both Modric and VDV, just get one.

Well I can't afford to do a straight swap to VDV from adam/walters, as I only have 0.3 in the bank. I could do that and take out lampard for malouda? but I'm more focussed on this week, the next two weeks are easy matches for me.

It seems my rival wants to shadow my every move. I've got VDV espescially to captain him with my rival doing the same. I think he's copying my moves to cut down on differentials. Is it too much of a risk to captain Silva, Suarez or RVP? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

For the sole reason that Spurs are at home to Blackpool who are going down IMO, I think risk is too great to captain a forward over a DGW midfielder. Silva not a bad shout but Man City looked tired at the weekend and with 7pts over spurs could see Silva not playing 180 mins.

I have to change frequencies on mine as I drive from my house to sisters house, to much interference, there are also afew spots on trip home where it goes out

works like champ in the mountains where there are no radio sations about

        evening all,

I have yaya and vdv in for this week. currently have 0.0m to spare.

my rival will more than likely get vdv and silva in and take a 4 point hit, (he's been taking hits for 3 weeks now in an attempt to catch me and its working).

Im worried about not having Silva this week, despite rotation risk.
The only way I can get silva in to to sell lampard.

So is it worth a hit for me to do Lamps > Silva, and match my rival?

(point hit wont really matter cos he'l take a 4 point hit as well)

No. Keep Lampard. I've a feeling he's got a match winning penalty stored up in him this week. Seriously though, I don't think Silva is going to do enough to be worth the hit ahead of Lampard. He'd have to post a huge total. Keep Lampard.

The reason they are 3.9 is that they aren't great options. If Flanagan is available at 4.0 you could probably downgrade to him and still pick up a cleany or two before the season's end.
