With three gameweeks left as we approach the climax of the 2010/11 season, our Fantasy Football Scout Top 5 sees no new entries, although third and fifth have swapped places, as Team Zophar moves up at the expense of Castel di Sangro. Chris McGurn, our overall leader, has climbed to the top of the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) tree, sitting proudly at number one in the world, a single point ahead of the chasing pack.

Chris McGurn

Morons FC

Fantasy Football Scout Ranking #1 Overall FPL Ranking #1

Last Week’s Score 54 pts
Two free transfers saw David Silva and Yaya Toure drafted into midfield, with Nani and Jamie O’Hara leaving the ranks. The Man City pair returned 9 points in the home game against West Ham, Leighton Baines contributed 11, captain Frank Lampard scored 16 to compensate for the Chelsea pair John Terry and David Luiz picking up just 3 points between them in their home match with Spurs. Robin Van Persie also helped Chris’ score along, with his assist in the Gunners win over Man United, earning the Dutchman 5 points.

Gameweek 36 Preview
Last week’s two trades gives Chris a couple of players for the final gameweek of the season, with Silva and Toure travelling to Baines’ Everton before facing Spurs at home. Will he grab some Tottenham cover for the home match with Blackpool though? Elsewhere, his Chelsea trio travel to Old Trafford to face Wayne Rooney’s Man United, Van Persie goes to Stoke and Ashley Young plays host to Wigan.

Kevin Havelock

Fantasy Football Scout Ranking #2 Overall FPL Ranking #4

Last Week’s Score 50 pts
A 4-point hit saw Robert Huth and Nani out for Dirk Kuyt and Joleon Lescott, with the Liverpool man grabbing the captain’s armband for a 26 point return. Doubling up on both the Chelsea and Man City defences failed to pay off, with 8 points returned from four defenders. Rafael Van der Vaart joined Van Persie in picking up 5 points, but Andy Carroll missed out on the goal action, coming off the Liverpool bench to earn a single point.

Gameweek 36 Preview
Kevin has five double gameweek players already: Lescott, Kolarov, Bale, Dawson and Van der Vaart. With three defenders playing twice, he’ll be hoping for clean sheets aplenty, particularly in the Man City-Spurs game at Eastlands. Florent Malouda, David Luiz and Ashley Cole visit Man United, though possibly both defenders will be benched. Kuyt and Carroll are off to face Fulham, as Van Persie travels to Stoke.

Utkarsh Dalmia

Team Zophar

Fantasy Football Ranking #3, Overall FPL Ranking #13

Last Week’s Score 62pts
A four point hit saw Dirk Kuyt and David Silva replace Nani and Clint Dempsey and it paid off for Utkarsh; Kuyt grabbed the armband for 26 points and Silva bagged 7. Robert Huth picked up 6 points to make up for Terry and Luiz’s combined total of 3, while Didier Drogba managed 9 at home to Spurs, with Van Persie’s 5 adding to the mix.

Gameweek 36 Preview
Last week’s successful points hit seems to have inspired Utkarsh, as he made two trades early on this week. Silva and Toure are already in the bag for the double gameweek, surely some Spurs coverage has been transferred in? Drogba and Rooney square up at Old Trafford, though it’s debatable whether the Chelsea defenders see the starting XI. Huth and Van Persie go head to head at the Brittania, with Kuyt at the Cottage.

Patrick Tyrrell

Scalachis Allstars

Fantasy Football Scout Ranking #4, Overall FPL Ranking #15

Last Week’s Score 54 Pts
Bacary Sagna made way for Aleksander Kolarov in the only trade of the gameweek. With half the team scoring 2 or less, some big points hauls saved the day; Leighton Baines’ 11, captain Lampard’s 16, Van Persie’s 5 and Peter Odemwinigie grabbed 6 in the home win over Aston Villa.

Gameweek 36 Preview
Yaya Toure and Kolarov are the two double gameweek players so far, though some Spurs coverage is surely to be expected from Patrick. With as many as 4 players lining up for the Newcastle-Birmingham match, it’ll be interesting to see how he plays it. Lampard and Luiz face Man United, Odemwingie goes to Wolves, Van Persie’s at Stoke, while Kevin Davies plays host to Sunderland, meaning all three forwards are away from home. A tough weekend ahead?

Kenny Coffey

Castel di Sangro

Fantasy Football Ranking #5, Overall FPL Ranking #20

Last Week’s Score 46pts
Out went Nani and Robert Huth as David Silva and Aleksander Kolarov came in for Kenny’s two free trades. Silva grabbed the armband and returned 14 points, though the next best scorer was Charles N’Zogbia with 6. Van Persie’s 5 was matched by Phil Jones but it was a disappointing gameweek otherwise, with Ben Foster’ 4 and Charlie Adam’s 3 the only other scores above 2 points.

Gameweek 36 Preview
Kenny is another without Spurs cover as of yet, with Silva and Kolarov his double gameweek players. He’ll need N’Zogbia to be fit for the trip to face Darren Bent and Kyle Walker’s Aston Villa. Wayne Rooney and Edwin Van der Sar will face off against Malouda and Luiz, with Van Persie at Stoke and Charlie Adam facing Spurs.

Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti has today claimed that if he had the choice, he would prefer to have Wayne Rooney in his team than Lionel Messi.

“Everyone goes for Messi but I would take Rooney,” he said. “Messi is out of this world and maybe he is reaching the level of Maradona. Rooney, however, is closer to the reality of football. He puts his talent out to the rest of the team and this explains the difference between players and outstanding players.”

I *dislike* Chels, but find it hard to hate a guy seemingly as decent as Ancelotti. He's being kind, here, but that's par for the course IMO.

Hope he finds a club that matches his decency 😉

Because I don't particularly rate him as manager. How many times in two seasons has he changed a game with an inspired substitution/change in formation?

I know that you'll talk about him being a double manager, but I genuinely won both trophies in spite of Ancelotti last season. His persistence with a midfield diamond throughout the first half of the season set us back a lot of points, to the extent that we wouldn't have won the league if A) United hadn't been pretty shit last year, B) Rooney hadn't got injured against Bayern. We had by far and away the best team in the league (still do), and still only won the league on goal difference. It was only when we reverted to formation played under Mourinho and Hiddink that we started playing properly - and even then his record playing 4-3-3 wasn't nearly as good as Hiddink's was the year before.

As for the FA Cup, we had the most ridiculous run of fixtures. Championship sides at home, Stoke at home and then a knackered Villa and team managed by Avram Grant at Wembley.

I like him as a person, he's an absolute gentlemen, but there are few managers out there who I'd much rather at the club than him.

My answer would be huth is at home and a greater goal threat v arsenal's rusty/ uncertain defence. Arsenal concede from set pieces proportionately higher than most teams.

        Clean sheet unlikely for either.

Well... I'd personally choose huth because I can see arsenal conceding to a stoke set piece.

Either they've got vermaelen who is rusty, and or djourou who has taken a slight knock, and their other defenders are a bit dodgy at times. huth has been a big goal threat lately, unlucky not to score in last few games.

I don't see any of those 3 as likely to keep a clean sheet

Home advantage is quite important though, especially for Fulham. Liverpool do have a lot of kids playing too, despite their good form.

Imagine you are number 1 in the ESPN premier league fantasy. Next guy is 11 points away. And you are thinking of the following team:

    Bent Rooney VP
    Vaart(c) Lampard Dempsey Nani
    Kolarov Samba Baines
    Hart

You have no transfers. Malouda, Huth and Cole are on your bench.

Did you pick the right team?

      Folks,

I'm 31 points of a rival who is coming at me like a train - as he had fantastic scores for the last 3 weeks.

      My team is...

      Foster / (Berkovic)
Luiz, Hangaland, Dawson (R Johnson, smalling)
      Yaya, Lamps, VDV(c), Barton
      Odem, Van Persie, Bent

Anyone suggest another good transfer for a 4 point hit. I'm thinking Cahill, Hiltsperger or maybe Hart or Gomes.

      Thanks...

Chill out. You've got a good team and just cos he got 3 good scores it's going to be hard to keep up that pace especially when you've got some good players and probably a high scoring captain.

I can't believe Clichy is nwo a doubt. I could be losing two players to injury. I pray Sturridge starts.

        How does this sound?

        Foster
        Hangeland Kolarov Clichy
        Modric, Silva, Kuyt, VDV(C)
        Sturridge, RVP, Odem

        Begovico, Nani, Vidic, Luiz

Any changes? Vidic ahead of Hangeland is my major concern.

In 7 games at home this year Fulham have conceded 2 goals. Both of which were whilst playing BLackburn. During that time they've shut out Chelsea and er....some other cr@ppy teams. What are the chances of them making it a 7th clean sheet in 8 come Monday. Liverpool and their form has to slow down soon. It always down (team's in general, not just Liverpool's).

          Hey guys,
I've somehow managed to save a wildcard and I'm using it now, but finding it ridiculously hard to pick a team! I've got this at the moment but really not happy with it,

I don't feel I'm making use of the citeh/spuds double, thinking kuyt/Surez is overkill, not happy with flanagan, really can't decide? I'm planning to bring in Malouda for Young next week as my main rival has him I'm currently 32 points clear of my mini league, any obvious glaring mistakes I've made?

          Szczesny

          Kolarov - Cahill - Dawson

          VDV - Young A - Silva - Kuyt

Sturridge - Van Persie - Suarez

          Mignolet/ Luiz / Flanigan / Sessegnon

          cheers.

Well, that's amazing to have a WC--- are you trained in a particularly patient profession? You are the antidote to the tens of thousands who WC in GW 2. I expect there is one of you vs 25000 of them. lol

OK, You should get three from Tot and probably stay with two from MC. Sturridge is too risky for your situation ( I am getting a bad feeling he may not play until GW38), go with Odem instead. Also, I would rather have Gomes/Hart if money allows instead of Migs or maybe arrange for a dirt cheap 5th mid or def. I think Young is expensive for his returns and would go for Bent if you want AVL for one week. Plan your lineup for the next two weeks and your subs. good luck.

Yeh I like the idea of Pav especially against Blackpool but will he start? I feel I should take a risk on at least 1 player this week so he could fit the bill, originally thought Sessegnon if he's playing up front having second thoughts now?

Haha yeh I probably should have used it in gw2 myself, been too patient as others have said I've left it about a month too late to make use out of it.

Your right about Odem for Sturridge making that move now, again Hart might be a safer bet that Koarov for rotation so that could work, I feel Young owes me as I've stuck with him long enough (so its his last week in my team, I figure if he's gonna do anything, home to Wigan is as good a fixture as any) am looking at cheap defenders but no one really stands out?

Yeah, I reckon Utd and Stoke to score, Fulham to at least score at home and Newcastle to win.

I am with Andy that only VDV was hit worthy.

Modric would be close, I supposed especially since Nani might not play. So the question is, can Modric outscore Zamora by four- or give you a good return over his next three games vs Zamora over one (or two games) and Nani at Blackburn (if Nani starts)in the second game. That's a tossup and on paper difficult for Modric to do. But it's just a bet if you want to make it, not outrageous. (assuming Nani is too expensive to just redraft)

Here's an interesting thought. 2nd in our mini-league joined the 2nd GW saving WC. A possible strategy to use?

Not likely, can't give up any points in this game,

.....I was brand new to the game and made a few unneeded transfers the first 10 weeks while I was trying to figure it out. One transfer came about because I thought a player could lose much more than one tenth on a downgrade.

Good strategy was to preserve WC until a DGW caused by snow- then use it- luck is the other strategy in picking a captain.

                    You have a wildcard?

use it on the last day of the season and choose all home players. If manure have won the title you could get some awesome differentials

                    valencia berbatov

                    Newcastle: nolan

                    spurs: vdv someone else

just players nobody would have because they suck and there is no away game the gw after

No--- I used WC in GW 24 I think- that's how I made up a lot of ground- maybe the most of anyone playing in my one big league. (Just luck though from 16000 to 33rd.)

Too much work though, so I probably won't be back next year, though I love this blog and learning about the English game and sense of humor. I also appreciate the quality of the EPL game, I am ruined for MLS now.

Well the best brains had Enrique in the scout picks and I personally like to watch Huth bang people around with his height and rugby shoves on throwins from Delap, but I am biased. Good luck. Johnson is on my bench. Just my feeble opinion.

Not sure that was me, I haven't brought in Pav-

..... who knows someone is going to captain a Balotelli, or Pav or Defoe and move up hundreds/ or thousands of places- this could be the week for a double or a hattrick. Most of my competition are just trying to hang on to their slot, some missed Dempsey (C), but have Odem and Kuyt so have made up ground each week since Dempsey's haul.

Doubt you'll make those 4 points back on the Lescott transfer.
Torres to Bent isn't a bad shout though.

            torres 1 pt, r johnson 2 pts

            and a 4 point hit = 7

lescott could keep a clean, has goal threat and should get 4 for just playing. Bent has a good chance this week, but according to end of season games AV won't try (don't know if I believe that)

But yeah if you get the right sriker definately worth it imo

citeh defender has the double and stoke at home so which ever one you fancy needs to play twice over the three games to get even, i went with lolorov many others have gone for lescott...price was the defining factor for me

tosey the poster in the top 300 or so doesnt have a single dgw player and with jus th eone double always a risk of stocking up

Don't press that button yet, Bojan.

Torres may not get more than a token appearance and Sturridge may still be injured.

Liverpool have hard games now and 2 of those are on the road. I would expect their points to dry up now.

Personally, I'm looking at shipping Saurez out for Rooney after this gw, especially if Chelsea win on Sunday, as Utd have 2 nice fixtures and would need to go all out or goals.

Don't know, I currently have nani playing and adam on the bench which is probably silly I think he nani won't start

It's a real toss-up but nani has been poor of late, against schalke he could hardly kick the ball or take any one on. Your guess is as good as mine
