Harry Redknapp has this morning announced that Gareth Bale is unlikely to figure for Spurs again this season following the ankle injury sustained in the 1-1 draw with Blackpool on Sunday. In addition, Spurs will go into their second fixture of the gameweek at Eastlands tomorrow night with doubts over the fitness of Luka Modric who picked up a hip injury.

Bale’s injury is undoubtedly a major blow to Tottenham’s chances of earning the three points they need to claw back City’s advantage in the race for fourth place. Talking to press this morning, Redknapp’s prognosis on Bale’s injury was far from positive…

“He’s going for a scan, we’ll have to wait and see but it looks like he’s done his ankle ligaments…It was a bad ankle knock. I wouldn’t think he would play this season, it’ll keep him out now. It’s badly swollen so we’ll just wait and see what the damage is.”

In addition, the Spurs boss has concerns over the availability of playmaker Luka Modric. He is struggling with a hip problem and arguably, should he fail to make it, would be a bigger loss to the Spurs cause. The Croatian has been in outstanding form of late – he picked up the assist for Jermain Defoe’s eqauliser on Sunday but, more significantly, in the Fantasy Premier League game, Modric has amassed an impressive 13 Bonus Points over his last 8 league outings.

Modric picked up almost 40,000 new FPL owners going into Tottenham’s double gameweek, increasing his ownership to 4.5%. As for Bale, he gathered over 63,000 new owners last week; those managers will now be faced with finding a replacement for Tottenham’s final two matches at Liverpool and at home to Birmingham.

Niko Kranjcar is likely to benefit from Bale’s absence and start in the Tottenham midfield against City. Should Modric fail to make it, and with Jermaine Jenas nursing a thigh injury, Rafael Van der Vaart may be forced into a deeper central midfield role which may restrict his potential.

Bad news all round for Fantasy Managers anticipating big returns from their Tottenham contingent in tomorrow night’s clash.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

As long as Luiz and Djourou start you'll be fine, bench is the right order too, I imagine this team will be a very model one next week!

      Looks good 🙂

I want Kuyt AND N'Zogbia for the last 2 games... but I can't see how:

    Lampard | Adam | Nasri | VDV | Y Toure
    RVP | Ba | Odemwingie

Obvioulsy Nasri goes for one of them, but which one? If VDV wasn't on penalties he'd go for the other... argh!

Mountain to climb in my head to head - 50 points behind. Here is the match up:

    Me:
    Foster, Stockdale
    Baines, Luiz, Terry, Kolarov, Kelly
VDV, A Young, Adam, Silva, Walcott
    RVP, Zamora, Welbeck
    Bank: 4.9m

    Him:
    Szezsney, Mignolet
Baines, Terry, R Johnson, Hangelaand, Baptiste
VDV, A Young, Adam, Nani, Larsson
    RVP, Bent, Wingie
    Bank 1.5m

    How does this sound:
    GW37: A Young & Zamora -> N'Zogbia & Drogba(c) - 4 points
    GW38: Adam & Drogba -> Berbatov(c) & Nani - 4 points

In 2008-2009 Arsenal took only 4 points from their last 3 premier league games

In 2009-2010 Arsenal took only 4 points from their last 5 premier league games

This season they've lost 2 of the last 3 following a series of draws.

Jeez, they dont tend to finish the season well when they dont have much to play for...

Anelka and especially Kalou are team cancers. Did you see Kalou's reaction last week when he scored a goal? This week he looks shooot first in clearly passing situations/build-ups. Including these two in so many fixtures has tipped the selfishness quotient on this team. Both should have gotten the hot urine treatment with Benayoun fitness, or at least that would have been my excuse...

I think he would be a high scoring DM, not that any FPL owner wuold look to a DM position for points. He is a deep prober and has the hunger for finishing passes. Besides he would be a baps magnet and boss the field YiSung Park style.

    Arsenal in terrible form

    Cech (Robinson)
    Cahill Baines Luiz (Hangeland, Huth)
    Lampard, N'Zogbia, Hitzelburger, Adam (Yaya)
    Sturridge RVP Odemthingie

Hangeland over Luiz maybe? Start Yaya and save 4pts by not bringing in one of Zogalog or H-Burger?

seriously i agree he has one of his best season and 10m is not much for rm but i don't think he will start many games with khedira, alonso and diarra in the team and they already had granero warming up the bench...bad move for a player imo unless rm are selling diarra and granero in the summer...

I think Diarra will move on. I've seen him linked with United a lot, and I wouldn't mind him for a decent price. He was impressive in the second leg against Barca.

As for Granero, surely Sahin will take preference.

Finding the RVP captaincy choice a strange one for a change

Arsenal haven't scored more than 1 goal at home since 12th feb at home to wet spam! (2 then). Chelsea will be looking to prove a point this weekend against a poor travelling newcastle team.

Fail to captain lamps, malouda or drogba at your peril

Not really. Ul find rvp has been my captain on at least 7 occassions and he has bourne fruit on every occasion I've done that.

I just don't know whether the pressure of playing at home will make them crack or whether the weight of expectation being lifted will allow them to play with freedom.

Just wanted to canvass opinions coz everyone seems to be leaning to nzog or rvp

N FYI if modric plays i will be correct cheers.

And who knows which Chelsea attacker will do all the damage? At least with Arsenal, there's no doubt as there most dangerous player.

Can't wait for all the Drogba captainers' reaction when he's named on the bench to give Anelka and Torres a long-awaited 80 minutes together.

I've got rid of Luiz and O'Hara, brought in Alex and Adam.

Fiddling while Rome burns, to be fair - the last two weeks are going to be horrendous with players being rested.

Yeah Nani should come in for him.

Agree with andy, Fletcher could make a come-back.

        Agreed.

P.S. If you can beat a Chelsea team boasting Lampard and Malouda, Barcelona should be a rollover with their vastly inferior midfield.

We had this discussion earlier, Blue Teets posted the link. Try page 2 or 3 of the last thread. I still think he'll move, Bayern just want to reduce the price tag a bit.

+1 - the transfer isn't in doubt at all.

Neuer's made it clear he wants to move to Bayern, so now Karl-Heinz Rummenigge's trying to force the price down. Essentially, he's saying: "We could wait until 2012, and then buy Neuer for free when his contract runs out, so you'll have to sell on our terms this summer if you want to get anything at all."

The two clubs aren't that far apart in their valuation - Bayern have offered €14 million, Schalke want €25 million. The move isn't going to collapse over exactly where they meet in the middle.
