The penultimate Podcast broadcast of the season is dedicated to one of its most controversial Fantasy figures and features a Mark vs Granville barney of reasonable proportions.

A long-term apologist for the Aleksandar Kolarov’s lack of attacking end product (there’s no excuse for his defending), I find myself under a tirade of predictable flack as Granville dares to use common sense against my rock solid statistical reasoning. The very idea.

Anyone who has personally been angered/abused/mildly upset by Kolarov this season should certainly listen in and blame me 100% for your pain. If that isn’t enough to tempt you then you can also eavesdrop on the usual array of regulars, and witness the mini-league banter as the gap between Granville and myself narrows to just nine points. Nine points. Just nine.

Nine.

Smashing podcast chaps. Im with Granville, i cant see City rotating while they still have a chance of 3rd. They could face teams like Bayern & Villareal if the finish 4th.

Tough decision between Adam and N'zogbia for me this week. Could get both but probably not worth a hit at this stage.

a cup final is also mentally draining and with the post match celebrations and disapointments the Tuesday game is going to be interesting.

I'm going to leave Silva in my team and hope for the best. Not confident he will get more than 30 mins though.

If Arsenal win they will be 5 ahead of City before they play which may affect the lineup.

I don't wish to worry anyone but a point for Blackburn or Birmingham at the weekend does not make them safe, indeed Aston Villa still need a point from one of their last two to guarantee safety. Just something to put into (The likely effort equasion). 🙂

Villa don't need a point. It looks like they do if you don't look at the fixtures left, but teams at the bottom are guaranteed to drop points as they are playing each other making Villa already safe no matter what happens.

P.S. Do you reckon Ashley Young could cut it at Liverpool or United? I have my doubts.

I think he would do better at Liverpool. Man Utd certainly don't need him and I don't think he'd fit in too well. I can see him being quite deadly at Liverpool though.

think zog is fair enuf only baines from the rest seem worth it imo taking hits much riskier this time of the season esp if defending a lead or chasing

or if like me 70+ lead in my mini lge so jus goin for it defo avin zog this week, maybe a pol defender and maybe even a cheeky punt on fletcher 😉

As a Newcastle and Allardyce fan I thought the way he was treated was disgraceful and the fact Steve Kean is clearly a big tim. In addition I would like to see Blackpool stay up even though I have nothing really fot them apart from liking Charlie Adam seeing how well he has done there since his Rangers days.

+1 very tough to call. Deciding factor could be haye's chin. If he can handle the power of a legitimate HW champion then he should have the tools to end the fight IMO. He has been put spark out before though.....

the fact is Haye will get caught. He did against Ruiz dont forget its just how he takes it. The bigger issue for me is how Wladimer handles it when Haye lands the Hayemaker.

true he's been dropped lot, I remember Peter dropped him 3 times but lost the decision. Don't think klitshko's ever been stopped though?
He's yet to fight good heavyweight, they've been picked well for him so this will be interesting. I actually think vitali would be the tougher fight for haye. styles make fights and if he get past wladimir I'd fancy the more durable vitali to beat him

Team at the moment.. The DF seems risk rotation but I can't think of any good transfer for DF. So, I'm thinking about Zogbia and Odem in for Young and Welbeck. Is it worth -4 points for these transfers?

    Foster
    Luiz - Kolarov - Carr
    Kuyt - Silva - VDV - Lamps - A.Young
    Drogba - RVP

Epic Fail, on counting? It's unlikely Villa go down I agree, but here's how it could work. Villa lose their last two badly.Wigan beat West Ham (R) and Stoke Well 42pts.Blackpool beat Bolton and Man U.42pts.Wolves beat Sund but lose to Blackburn 40pts (R).Birm beat Fulham and spurs 45pts.Blackburn draw with Utd & beat Wolves 43pts. Aston Villa relegated 18th on goal difference. Not likely as I said but possible. Apology accepted.

Wow - now baird is suspended for the last 2 games i really DO need to make a defensive change! He was my only safe starter... Look at this defence:

    Baird (suspended for 2)
    ridgewell (suspended for 1)
huth (injury/ even if fit for fa cup may be rested 3 days later)
    luiz (possibly droped)
    coleman (you know the score)

    gomes (dropped/ injured)
    szczcesny (WOOHOO!)

I could feasibly have zero defenders starting! Got a lot of cash in the bank and likely to be left with 3 mil at the end with current trasnfer plans, so thinking of a punt

    baird -> glen johnson

He looked great attacking last week, and liverpool could well keep a clean sheet in the last 2. Thoughts?

now you're tempting me... just west brom score a lot of goals - so with baines we really are relying almost completely on his attacking potential, whereas with johnson i can see clean sheets as very much possible.

Look at spurs - they scored 1 at home to blackpool (even that was a pot shot from defoe) and they dont even *want* europa league. Their main man vdv has looked a bit like a daddylonglegs the last few games.

        bham good game 37
        stoke/ spurs good game 38
        fulham solid, baird safe starter
        chelsea solid, luiz a threat

        WTF HAPPENED?!

I still think i'll stick with 1 defensive change though. Hoping huth will be back and ridgewell will get 2 points rather than -3.

Then luiz/ coleman can be the subject of my prayers.

Would you agree that the biggest 2 mistakes people make early season (including many on this site) is when they transfer players based on:

                a) a good performance in the previous game
                b) a good fixture in the next game

to me using ONE game as a basis for any decision is disastrous in the longterm. I think you have to think in chunks of 6 games+

The only relevance the next fixture has to me is to decide the timing of a transfer in/out, given that I already want to make that transfer.

am sure he wudnt mind me reposting this but tiggerlips posted this in november and i pasted it into my notes section on the fpl website.....dunno about you but this served me really well over the season

I look at value , always buy someone aboout to rise in price . Also dont be too hungup about their next fixture , buy someone that you can bring in and keep in .
Its bad to buy someone on a temporary basis because when you have injuries to other players you will be stuck with them.

Doont swap like for like just because one had a better gameweek thn another. Remove your weakest link , even if its only a bench player

Ha that's weird - quite similar to my post above.

I don't always agree a signing HAS to be based on a price rise though, because price rises are often generated from people making reactionary transfers (ooh rooney scored).

If you make a good longterm transfer, and he does will, his price will rise in the future as a by-product - AND you will get him earlier in his good run.

think the point about the price rises is thats how you build your squad value for the wildcard so makes sense to buy a player thats about to go up in price tho i agree that a players price rising is often related to a bandwaggon.....jus pays to pay attention to these things and esp whwther to sell a player on when its more difficult to get him beck at a later date

I like to pick a transfer i like based on form, good value, good fixtures etc. I will draw up a few options from this.

THEN I will look at the next fixtures for these players and if one of them is excellent, it's probably a good time to bring him in.

THEN I will look at totalfpl, and if I still have more than one transfer option, choose the one who is likely to rise.

So my order of priorities are
          1. value/form/fixtures
          2. good timing to bring in
          3. price rise

Some players cost 5 million but are 'worth' 7 million based on their productivity. This is better than any 0.1 rise.

I'm think of doing Zamora --> Sturridge, and then benching VdV. It'll leave me with:

    Adam.Silva.Kuyt.Lamps
    Sturridge.RvP.Odem

    Good or bad idea?

iz zamora injured? According to the masses, you might prefer to get rid of silva who is apparently a rotation risk. But I'm keeping him - got a lot more pressing worries

Nope. Everyone is overlooking nani big time...

Giggs will almost definitely get a lot of rest to keep him fresh, and Park is generally used sparingly. Valencia might get a rest or 2 since he seems essential to Fergie's plans.

Nani is a great prospect for the final 2 games!

vdv probably. I keep trying to imagine spurs scoring at liverpool and I'm finding it difficult after watching their last 2 games in full.

Maybe silva if you think he's a rotation risk.

Definitely not odemwingie or nani imo.

Ok, I want to bring in N'Zogbia for the final two weeks. Whom should he replace?

VDV - decent final fixture, so doubt it
    Silva - rotation risk
    Yaya - rotation risk
O'Hara - decent fixtures, but not getting many points
Adam - decent fixture this week

    Any thoughts?

42 ahead in mini league , should i defend or just do my own thing?

For example i have lampard and he dosent .
Should i captain van persie just because he might , or should i go lampard because he a few percent more likely to get more points?

Depends on your goals. Guaranteed league win = playing abit safer. Play your own game sounds ok with that lead. I lead by 19 from 2 rivals so don't have that option as much.

I'd captain van persie anyway myself.

Lampard has been scoring well recently but I think he's been quite lucky to do so. Especially the spurs goal... the united goal was the only thing he did all game too.

Hi Guys, neck & neck with my mini league rival so all to play for in last 2 games, need to 'trade' carefully !!!

    Line up is as follows...

    Foster (begovic)
    Luiz, Kolarov, Coleman (simspon, smalling)
    Silva, Adam, Lampard, VDV (Demspey)
    Chico, RVP, Suarez

Thinking of a N'zobia for Demps. No other trades

    Any thoughts?
