After being substituted in the 53rd minute of Tottenhamโ€™s 2-0 victory over Liverpool last Sunday, Rafael Van der Vaart – who also scored the opening goal in the match – has confirmed that he is suffering with a stretched calf. The influential midfielder has stressed that he will do all he can and battle on to prove his fitness ahead of the final game of the season against Birmingham at White Hart Lane.

Connecting with fans through his official Twitter account, the Dutch international made the announcement:

โ€œStretched my calf a bit last Sunday against Liverpool but will do everything to make the last game of the season!โ€

Van der Vaart holds a very healthy Fantasy Premier League (FPL) ownership (27%) and, with his early withdrawal at Anfield, those managers – including 8 of the top 10 FPL – will have been anticipating an announcement. Today’s news will be met with a mixed reception however. While Van der Vaart seemingly has a chance of figuring in Sunday’s game, he could also miss out entirely or have his pitch time cut considerably once again.

Even though he has been considered a doubt since the victory at Anfield, media silence on Van der Vaart’s situation, together with his reputation this season, has seen him climb to fourth in our Captainโ€™s Poll with 10% of the vote. A home clash against a faltering Birmingham offers potential profits and the Dutchman is understandably a leading contender for the armband. Van der Vaart has been in FPL staple for many a Manager this term, fetching a tally of 165 points which includes 13 goals and 9 assists.

For many this final gameweek could prove crucial and, with Van der Vaart holding such a prominent place in a high number squads, his situation over the coming days will need to be monitored carefully – the midfielder’s appearance on Sunday looks likely to have major significance to our fortunes as Fantasy Managers and those of Birmingham City. Check out our Twitter stream for all the latest.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

    All, anytime goalscorer ;

+ 1. To cover your dissapointment put a euro on each permutation less a player: ie berba, nzog, rvp, fletch ats / berba, nzog, rvp, tevez ats/ berba, nzog, fletch, tevez ats etc etc! Great odds though

You can do that too. On five picks, it would be a Lucky 31 or a Canadian.
Would cost you €31 or €26 respectively (if you put €1 on per line).

Don't know how to link it but log on to PP.

Go to Premiership coupon. Select each match involved in the bet. Select "all markets". Select "anytime goalscorer". Select the player and that will add the player to your betslip. repeat the process for each player until you have all 5 players on your betslip. Select "accumulator" and place bet.

        Hope that made sense!

I agree. The united players that are in fergies plans for barca that are considered 'fringe' (ie Berba, nani, rafael, anderson), arent silly enough to go all out in an effort to change fergies team lineup for the final which surely has already been decided . They will know that they will probably (definitely?) not start 6 days later if they start this game. I dont fancy nani to start against b,pool and therefore the only players with something tn gain will be Berba and Anderson. The young lads will try but i fancy blackpool also.

I have Nani though so it would mean using a free transfer to take him out as I doubt he will start. Not really many options this week if you're not going for Berbatov or Tevez.

Might punt on an Arsenal midfielder, maybe Arshavin if he is nailed on or Walcott, really fancy them to absolutely smash Fulham this week.

No i wouldnt take him out based on my opinion. He could still play. Arsenal have a lot to owe to their patient fans. A final day exhibition might 'ease' the pressure somewhat. So walcott, yeah!

Depends on the fitness of others in my team. If Silva and Odemwingie fine I can risk keeping Nani and letting one of them auto-sub in but if not then I can't risk it.

There's at least three games that don't mean a thing. Why wouldn't the EPL schedule them (or at least one) for an earlier slot. I think it's been clear for a month which few GW38 games would be meaningless.

I understand the concurrent play for teams in a real fight for relegation- but not for places higher up the table. Seems like a waste of advertising/TV revenue.

Did anyone ever finish up watching the entire series of "The Event". JUst channel flicking and it was on E4. Think it might even be a second series now, if I recall an advert not too long ago.

I started watching it and thought it might be the next big American TV show, but never really found myself waiting in expectation for the next episode like I did with things like 24. So I ended up forgetting about it and only seeing the first 3 episodes or something.

You make 3 selections e.g RVP, Berbs, Tevez all to score anytime.

          Then there's 4 seperate bets

Treble = all 3 to score

3 doubles, 2 of each of the players. RVP + Tevez, berbs and Tevez, RVP and Berbs.

I guess if you choose this then you pay 4 times.

          Accumulator you just pay once.

          3 selections i.e Berbatov(1st selection) N'Zogbia(2nd selection) Tevez(3rd selection)

For example a 1 pound Trixie of those 3 bets would cost you 4 pound. 1 pound for a double of Berbatov and Tevez. 1 pound for a double on Berbatov and N'Zogbia. 1 pound for a double on Tevez and N'Zogbia. ! pound on all three.

Does that make it any simpler?

Depends how many bets you want to place. Choosing an accumulator you only pay once but every bet has to come in.

If you make 3 selections and choose a trixie then you have more chances of winning but you're paying 4 x your stake.

Well it depends on the odds, if like you said below you wanted to do first goalscoarers pick 4 and do a lucky 15 or Yankee because at least if one scores your getting something back if two score you might make a few quid and if 3 or all score you will have a very healthy profit. But with the anytime scorers the odds are too short for that so just do an accum on those

This is my rival's team for this week in the H2H leagues...He doesn't make transfers anymore but has been doing quite well. I must win this game to claim the title.

    Foster
    Carragher, Jagielka, Samba, Huth
    Barton, VDV, Malouda, Nani
    Davies, RVP (C)

    My team at the moment.

    Foster
    Luiz, Walker, Salcido
    VDV, Young, Lampard(C), N'zogbia
    Odem, RVP, Suarez

    I'm doing Suarez -> Berbatov

Should I do RVP (C) or Berbatov (C)? Who has the better chance of winning?

so if i did £5 on that it says the Potential returns: 8038.75.

if just one player got the first goal how much money would i win? say C Tevez 4/1 was the one.

That's £5 for each separate bet though. Not just £5.

If only Tevez scored then you would get nothing on a Yankee bet and £25 back on a lucky 15.

I thought I'd be clever, Drogba had just had surgery and hadn't been training or had a pre-season. However carlo said he'd recovered much faster than expected and would play some part in gw1 so I put him in my team from the off but instead of following the masses and capping him for what would be a 2nd half cameo I gave my boy ash young the (C) for gw1. It was a sign of things to come in the most fecked up fpl season yet.

Van damme was kolarov with a cool name. I remember petrov & arteta (he cost about 5.5 back then) serving me well in my 1st season at this, along with bentley. Petrov was quite a player in his day. Like a european valencia.

yeah definitely. In the past there's always been a few that if you went without you were guaranteed red arrows. When I started it was ronaldo, gerrard & lampard. Post-ronaldo you had drogba, fabregas, rooney, torres.
This season there's been no consistency except for RVP but he was injured for months. Drogba started as expected but then got malaria and stopped producing. Berbs and tevez spent all season alternating hatricks and braces with blanks in easy fixtures. Rooney and fab were stop start. Let's not mention the spanish ladyboy prima donna.
