Liverpool have today announced the club have reached an agreement with Blackpool for the transfer of Charlie Adam. The player will travel to Merseyside for a medical and to discuss personal terms and providing all is well, the deal should be completed before the weekend for a fee somewhere in the region of £7m.

Having been rebuffed in the January transfer window for the playmaker’s services, Kenny Dalglish was not to be denied and following months of Liverpool interest, a breakthrough was made in negotiations this morning. Initial reports suggest an arrangement is in place for Jonjo Shelvey and one yet unnamed Liverpool player to join up at Bloomfield Road on loan next term as part of the deal.

Adam’s capture comes hot on the heels of Jordan Henderson’s move to Anfield and offers the club plenty midfield options ahead of next season. From a Fantasy perspective, it somewhat complicates matters; while Adam offered superb Fantasy Premier League (FPL) returns last season, much of his points came from set-pieces and it will be intruing to see how much -if any- he steals from Steven Gerrard.

With so many options in midfield, it may edge the likes of Raul Meireles nearer the exit door and with a move for Stewart Downing still very much on the cards, there’s likely to be further comings and goings at the club over the next few weeks.

Meanwhile, a full Scout Report on Adam, discussing in detail his likely impact at Liverpool, will follow.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Now that is a pretty handy first XI for us next season. Obviously question marks over Enrique, Jonas and Barton though. That Marveaux fella is supposed to be good too (if injury prone).

Hope Ben Arfa returns fine and doesn't suffer any long term effects of the injury.

Question marks about your untested left hand side i'd say but on paper it's strong for shizz.

Yeah actually I think Ben Arfa played right and Jonas left (for the two games HBA played before being broken). So maybe they'd do that again. Depends who stays I suppose.

I'd play Tiote with Barton centre mids and Barf floating around behind Ba in the hole.

Exactly what I'd rate both Cabaye and Marveaux as. Prospects.

Putting them straight in the side and expecting them to deliver immediately is ambitious I think. Given time I think they could do well, but I just wonder how much of it they will get.

Shane Ferguson looks a top prospect, he's a LB or LW. Phil Airey has been scoring for fun in the youth and reserves so would like to see him have a run. Haris Vuckic is highly rated. All in all its a young enough side, got a frenchie t'other day too who again is highly rated.

I rate Coyle so im suprised he hasn't dropped him for Gardner or even stick Taylor back at left back. Robinson really is that sh1t.

If you don't already check out tfpl chat once in a while you really should! You get to meet Liverpool fans who will have Adam in their FPl team next year @ 9M.

Plus he's way better than Modric, in fact, according to this bloke, he's better than all but nine other footballers on the planet...

I actually think he will be good in a side that has more possession.

He will just be a major liability vs other good teams.

Suarez/Liv defender look the best bets for next seaosn unless Carroll is guaranteed to start.

    Read it and weep! 😉

Part my guess, part what I hope. Meireles to go ( 🙁 ) Spearing & Hendo will also fill in mid when Gerrard brakes / Adam stops at Greggs. Hopefully we don't buy a LB so Kelly gets games and hopefully we won't go crazy for Downing and just get bloody Nzogbia bought!

Why exactly is it that they want to get rid of Meireles again? Because last time I checked he was the most composed and smartest passer in that team and in the prime of his career. On top of that he had a good eye for goal and was tactically sound.

            Yeah possibly.

I remember talkin to Garg about Meireles in the Hodgson months (shudders) sayin I was overly impressed but it was unfair to judge him so early and when we were playing so bad but he really stepped up and was as close to Xavi that weve had in terms of his use of the ball recently. It will be interested to see how the fans will react if he goes, after winning our player of the season!

Wheater was a good purchase and I'd like to see him start ahead of Knight next season.

Other squaddies have been alright too

        - Rodrigo was poor/average but not terrible
        - Petrov was good on paper when signed its not Coyles fault he cant be bothered.

i'm guessing you were one of the people who thought he looked good in the under 21 euros. you weren't alone, he seemed to somehow come away with praise that tournament.
the player i saw was either offside, mis-controlling or was being squeezed onto his right foot and made redundant. despite playing 3 matches you can count his moments of quality on 3 fingers

harsh comparison given sturridge has started so few games in his young career. but it wasn't you who made the comparison so fair play.
my issue with him is a weird one, it's not that he's one-footed it's that his personal technique and stance when he has the ball commits him to his left foot. it's a very open side-on stance which unlike a more front on stance makes it very hard for him to quickly change to his right side. it's hard to explain but hopefully if you watch him you'll get what i mean. his stance lends itself very well to curling the ball into the far corner which he's done a few times for bolton scoring some pretty impressive bergkamp like goals. but the problem is as he's relatively committed to this one type of shot and everything is just a bit more predictable than it should be. he's extremely quick so that negates that a bit. other examples i'd say of players with this quite open stance which makes them seem more one-footed then they maybe are are vela and dos santos. players like rvp and robben who may also be pretty one-footed do so in a more front on stance so they can twist and turn quicker as they're less committed.

of course players can change their stance depending on the situation (e.g a volley coming from a certain angle) but his 'stock' stance is a very side-on one. he bats like a normal batsmen while the rest of the league bats like chanderpaul 😉

one other important point about this side-on stance and the main reason i think he gets on better with bolton than chelsea (apart from more minutes).
that is when running in behind a defence it's not really an issue as running forward you will be always be front on. sturridge has electric pace so he can get away from defenders. when playing against a deep defence you'll always be fronting up to defenders so this side-on technique becomes an issue, he's almost committed to carrying on running from right to left with the defence almost being able to show him where they want him to go. they want him to run all the way across and end up having to give it sideways or backwards to the left midfielder as he wont have personally got anywhere or by this side-on stance restricting his vision to his right he's more prone to hesitating (as he has fewer visible options) and being dispossessed or picking the wrong pass. with chelsea the team has more possession and gets more respect so sturridge is usually up against deeper defences. also he's more often on either wing with chelsea so he's more often fronting up to players as opposed to being able to run clear in behind centrally. at bolton both cases are different, they suit him and this unique 'stance' of his that becomes a problem when he has less space to run in behind.
ideally he will one day have the skill and imagination of an rvp and be able to turn this into an advantage sometimes. by making the defender think he's committed to going one way on his left he can do something like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5V2sduyz-dk#t=15s

Pilkington to Norwich is an interesting one (probably not for anyone else but me!) I work with a few Huddesfield fans and he meant to be a quality player who they said they think could make the step up (last player they had and said that about was Kelly) I think at a decent price, maybe 4.5, he could be a good 5th mid, tricky winger with good delivery. Only thing that surprising is that its happened now as he broke his leg early this year and won't be ready for the start of the season from what I'm aware.

Anyway, no one is probably bothered about any of this 😉

Maybe. Just think they'll look at the number of goals he scored, plus wasn't he in the U21 as a striker? 😉 I just think he'll be put as a Striker with Kompany and P.Nev.

Shame he will miss the start of the season if he is a good prospect as that is when most people will go for punts on that type of player.

Also newly promoted usually get off to better start before teams work them out and their results suffer, see Blackpool and Hull.

And you really like Kelly don't you!!

This is true. If he was fit for the start and priced at 4.5 I reckon I'd have taken a punt because I do think Norwich might get off to a flyer and their opening games aren't too bad. I trust the guys telling ms about how good he is as they no their stuff and they kept going on about Kelly and I hadn't really seen much of him and I was impressed 😉

Lambert's strategy of buying from the lower leagues will come back and bite him in the arse I think. Good manager, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was snatched up in January with Norwich going nowhere á la Coyle. Tricky season ahead for Norwich.

Realistically he probably doesn't think they'll stay up so he's gonna take those parachute payments and go down with the club being stable but also with a very good championship side and then try come straight back up I guess (or at least the club will and like u say, he will leave to pastures new)

How have you been, I had a good laugh when I saw Henderson and Adam now go to Liverpool. It is about time Chelsea entered the market.

But I am liking that most of the inter Premiership transfers have not happened yet, as FPL prices should reflect this.

Think this has been mentioned before, but >

At ~2 a.m. post-time (9 p.m. East Coast of the States where I am) this site 'goes dark' ... no new posts for hours. Used to think that y'all were asleep, now I realize it might be something like a server back-up or somesuch?

Does this happen to anyone else? With a job, 4 kids, the 9 p.m. to midnight slot is the best time for footy convo, but I'm left with radio silence.

    Pathetic of me, really.

Does anyone have any (germane) info? Cheers.

Re. Adam transfer. I like him (from what I've seen)
I think it may spell the end for Meireles.
Us Liverpool fans have to trust Kenny and Camolli.
It's anyone's guess, but my initial thoughts are that Kenny might run with a 3-5-2 formation (it worked well last season when played).
    Something like ;

    Carroll, Suarez
    Gerrard
    Downing, Adam, Johnson
    Lucas
    Agger, Skrtel, Carragher
    Reina

With bench options of Kuyt (RM/F), Henderson (RM/CM), Aqualani (AM)
    Spearing (DM), Cole (RM/LM/AM)

Easily switched to a 442 or 443 with the likes of Kelly, Flanagan and Robinson (and possibly Enrique) to be used as full backs.

Others may scoff. Liverpool are on the way back.

You really think Kuyt could/would be benched? Isn't he, like, your best/most consistent player over the last 3 years?

I'd think they'd be better swapping out Carroll - use him as super impact sub - for Kuyt.

Yes, I know that sounds like lunacy ... but 'Pool was moving the ball *much* better late last year with Andy not playing.

I agree King Eric. Liverpool were moving the ball about beautifully late last year (without Gerrard or Caroll) in the team.
However, we have a full pre season and no European football this season for Kenny and Clarke to fine tune a couple of formations (depending on opponent) to get the best out of our best players.
This hasn't happened at Liverpool for a long, long time.
The right players will play in the right games. That never happened under Rafa. Good times ahead. Expect an "under the radar" marquee signing also before the window shuts.

"The spray, called AeroComex Futline invented by a disgruntled footballer and manufactured by former Chivas USA shirt sponsor Comex makes a white line which defenders can not cross and the line disappears after about 30 seconds to a minute (so as to not violate FIFA’s rules about markings on a football pitch).

This practice will come as no surprise if you watch the game south of the US border.

At the beginning of 2009 the Asociación del Fútbol Argentino, Argentina’s football federation adopted its use in Argentina Primera Division matches.

Federación Mexicana de Fútbol Asociación, the Mexican federation also began using it in August of 2009.

The spray has also been used in Brazil in the Brazilian Regional Championship and in Brazilian National Championship since about 2005."

So, I'm watching an MLS game right now (NYRedBull v TorontoFC)and there was a 'weird' call - goal erased after free kick. Anyway, at halftime they asked the refs - off camera - for clarification. And they got it. Agree or not with it, at least you knew 'why' the call was made.

Now I'm not calling for that [interviews], per se, but why does footy instruct their officials to be so impassive? Because impassive = neutral? Wouldn't more hand signals used during play solve so many 'issues'?

hope brown and o'shea sign for sunderland before fpl opens.... 6.0 might stretch the budget...reckon they would be 5 or 5.5 for sund?

They were both 5.5 at the start of last season, so if the game opens before their move is finalised, I can't see them being any more expensive than that as Man Utd players... Especially with Smalling acquitting himself well last season, and the purchase of Jones this summer. Logically they should even be cheaper than the start of last season!

*Logically speaking, which of course means nothing when it comes to FPL 😛

Wouldn't want either. They make sunderland gk a better prospect though. No idea who #1 is though 😕
