A Fantasy Premier League Update

The Premier League have confirmed to us this afternoon that their Fantasy game is in the final stages of testing for the new season but will not be going live today.

The game and site have been enhanced and, while things are almost complete, there are still some minor browser issues that need to be ironed out before the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) site can launch.

We can take this opportunity to dispel a number of rumours that have cropped up in recent days and confirm that all is well with the FPL and that the game will be free to play. There are also a number of significant improvements that we feel will be greeted with a very positive response from players and, in particular, our community; having voiced strong opinions on certain features of the game, you have helped influence some of the changes introduced.

We will endeavour to bring you details of those changes and any update on the release date. One of the benefits of our new relationship with the FPL is that visitors to Fantasy Football Scout will get information and enjoy a two-way relationship with the game organisers. This means that once the game is released and the new features announced, you can rely on us to feedback your reactions to the changes.

    GREEDY FFS!
    So it looks like FFS are becoming an official partner of sorts with FPL. Nice way to bite the hand that feeds and alienate the majority of their fanbase!

    I had literally come on here to get my membership - glad I hadn't already.

    Long term I am not sure that this will be a good decision for FFS. The whole point of the site is to give users an advantage over their rivals. Now that this advantage is about to be eroded there will be no point to the site anymore except as an advertising portal.

    I feel sorry for those who have already forked out their £12.50 - not only will this now be a waste of money, this decision will probably mean you losing out on minileague winnings, or at least make it a lot more difficult.

    If I was you I would ask for a refund before the season starts. Maybe if enough people vote with their feet, this decision can still be reversed?

          If you are such a loser that you are desperate for FFS to provide an advantage for you, then you are probably pretty mediocre at FPL anyways. Your rivals couldn't find FFS on Google? Tighten the straps on your protective helmet, wipe away the tears, and focus on that top 500k finish Corky.

      As long as other FF games are still given space I don't see it as a major issue.

      I can understand your concerns.

      We all have moral choices to make over what we do and don't support. The great thing about FFS has been it shows a wide choice of games and formats on offer and leaves it to the individual to choose what they want.

      I hope when you've had a chance to consider it further you will change your mind.

        it's hard enough that this site makes teams identical and those that make a great start close ranks come the latter stages, spoonfed who to get making gains impossible

        but now it will be available to literally every player in the game

        and yet we're offered membership for a sum? it's mildly insulting and will certainly have a very negative effect on the actual game

        im all for people making cash etc, but this will be to the potentially huge detriment of the game we love to play

            just think it's going to render the game from an individual P.o.v perhaps rather pointless- which imo is what in the past has made this game so utterly enjoyable

            this site is like playing a computer game in cheat mode

            and now everyone will have access

            think about it- every player in the game is going to have the option which in a nutshell reads 'click here to see who you should get in/most people will get in'

            theyre cashing in, good luck to em- but for us it will have a serious negative effect on the actual game for those that play for the enjoyment, individuality

          but it was always available for anyone who looked. it always appeared at the top of any google searches for FF tips.
          it's like everything else....if enough people dislike it, a new site will appear elsewhere to appease them. natural progression. I applaud the guys for getting some recognition and reward(?) for their excellent efforts over the seasons.

      I kind of agree with you. I know a lot of my friends read the pundit bit on the FF website everyweek but they don't go on here as much which had given me an advantage.

      I’m not sure what you’re basing this on and I actually resent the fact that you’re accusing me of “biting the hand that feeds”. You’ve no idea how much time, money and love I invest in this site to ensure that this is not the case and continues not to be the case.

      As for the Members – they will get new features, more detailed articles based and with our insight into how the FPL works, they will benefit. We will also have more resource available on the site to work on articles. There is no way I’d turn my back on those who have shown their support by signing up and it genuinely upsets me that, having spent any time on this site, you’d think the contrary.

      The fact is – I can’t keep this site a secret. It would also be stupid of me to try to do so. More people find this site every season. You’d struggle to find a website out there who, hand on heart, want to keep their content secret and the site hidden. That’s a nonsense. Should I apologise for wanting to get more traffic – more eyes on the effort and work we put in?

      You are of course entitled to your opinion but, if you had invested years of your life and thousands of pounds building and running this site, would you genuinely turn down the opportunity for growth? At my age, with a family to support, I certainly can’t if I want to stay involved.

        Not a regular poster, but have been using this site for a few years now and appreciate the huge amount of time, effort, and dedication required to get the site to this level. It's simply, by far the best fantasy football tip site on the net.

        I think it would be ridiculous, having created such a fantastic resource, not to try and get it to as much people as possible, and, in doing so, reward yourself financially, even slightly, for the aforementioned dedication and love you've put into this site. In short, I don't believe anyone should have a reason to complain about what you'e doing with the site.

        Best wishes for the future, and I'll continue to use this site daily, as I'm sure it will continue to improve in the coming years.

        Mark, I think for many it's a kneejerk reaction, and on reflection and perhaps trying to put themselves in your position may realise this could be a great thing for the site,you and us.
        Certainly better this than losing the site because you had to concentrate on a larger income elsewhere.
        I would hate to see you totally beholden to one or two games however and I'm sure you are aware of the possibility.

          Don't listen to the haters!!

          This site is an excellent resource and what makes the game is team choices are made on opinion. Generally everyone has same teams anyway as those are the players that are doing well so nothing will change with this partnership.

          Why do we all come here instead of rubbish like Total FPL??

          Because this site is a polished professional effort (whhich costs money and time) so who can blame the guys for making a return (if this is the case).

          FFS has done so well it was only inevitible it would grow and good luck to the guys.

        I remember creating a tickertape for the first year playing the FPL, I wanted to have the upper hand in my league. One of my rival competitors in my mini league (and long time friend) gave me the link to this website and I was gutted to see the tickertape on the site. Once i explored the site i realised just how much it had had a lot to offer. I remember listening to the podcasts and thinking it just a couple of mates having a laugh, a little bit amateur but always an enjoyable listen. FFS has developed into a machine, but that was always going to be its natural process.

        I think you have to view this website as a tool to help you get the most out of your team, making the most of FFS is key. At the end of the day people all head into the season with different tactics, finding the right balance of transfers, picking the form players, knowing which players are close to a ban. FFS don't always get it right, it can also be misleading, you use the information accordingly. Everyone who follows Premier League Football know who are the best players are. We dont need FFS to tell us, its just one website containing alot of information to help us come to a decision.

        Everyone who comes to this website is a little FF obsessed. But we still come back time after time. Granville and Mark have created a hub for banter, laughs and enjoyment. Well executed too.

        Im not sure if i will be paying for membership this year. I was keen to support FFS last year, but not sure about this year. I didn't really feel any greater benefit from the members section apart from having the full tickertape. It might just be me. Whats are the main benefits from being a full member? I would like to hear other opinions.

      Won't get a work permit, hasn't even played a game for Japan. He was decent enough at Feyenoord last season but he's definitely not ready for the premier league, will probably be loaned out for another couple of years, probably to Feyenoord again this season. Hopefully by then he will have played 75% of Japan's games to have a chance of getting a permit.

      Agreed, no one to blame, but still disappointing for myself. Managed to beat my mates, who are spending approx the same amount of time on the game, for the last couple of seasons with the help of this site. This advantage will be gone now.

      The two options now are spending even more time on research to up my game or hope that fortuna plays its part.

          Could well be, but when discussing different fantasy subjects, you can eassily find out who is using this site and who's not. As we are not from England it's not so easy to find this site without knowing. I found it on purpose. They are using different sites as FISO or Sportal.

        Have to agree with you and Rambo above SD. While I have no interest in people who keep this site secret from their mates, linking in to the main FPL site could lead to paint by numbers teams on mass.

        While everyone's free to look at this site already, most people can't be bothered to look for it. However, people will use whatever resource is made available on the main site as it means they only have to go to one place. This means that bandwagons will be actual good buys, rather than whoever scored a hat-trick the previous week.

        So rather than having the same old flcok of sheep, running from one end of the field to another, Mark's expert shepparding will drive them to the same players we're all looking at. I actually think this could change the way the game operates to an extent, especially with price changes.*

        *discalimer; on reflection, not sure if I actually think this as the game's so huge, but still.....

          the issue isnt with mark cashing in

          it's the detrimental effect on the game we who get too involved ourselves love to play as individuals

          it's bad enough that leaders of the game before long are 'spoonfed' how to see out the season making significant gains difficult to impossible

          but absolutely everyone in the game? teams will be so similar etc

          not a dig at mark, he's done v well and cashed in on a self confessed own addiction- he put in the hard yard and getting his reward, doesnt stop people voicing genuine and valid concerns regarding the actual game, genuine disappointment and the very real possibility of a negative effect on how that unfolds/potential to find cracks and individuality!!!

          No I have absolutely no idea yet. I've not studied the fixtures or anything. I usually start late and I can't really be motivated without knowing the prices. Going away to Berlin and some other places in a few days and won't be back until a week or so before the first PL game so will do my studies then.

            Not really. Gibbs is a cert if we don't buy a left back, unlike Clichy, he has assists in him. Ill keep an eye on Gervinho aswell.

            Given will be my GK if he moves to Villa.

            Not buying the Kompany love, he didn't score a goal last season. He could be a bonus magnet this season though.

            Riise is an interesting prospect, especially with Fulhams early fixtures.

      It will give even more meaning to your ranking, it's akin to playing your video game on 'normal' rather than 'easy'.
      Andy submitted pundit articles to the Metro game all last year, so we have a precedent.
      Another thing to note is, the author of the pundit will still have to submit his article way before the Saturday deadline. A Modric appendicitis on the Friday evening will still go unreported on FPL.

      I've calmed down now. I suppose I can't blame them for cashing in - I'd probably have done the same. But be clear that it is "cashing in"
      Any notion that this is somehow beneficial to the existing membership base is frankly insulting.

      All our rivals will now have information handed to them on a plate. All those little nuggets that added up to you or me winning our minileague will be "out there".

      Particularly the preview articles. "Don't forget that Player X is injured / suspended this weekend. But, hey, Player Y is a great replacement because of ......" All your rivals, who would normally have been oblivious, will be busy transferring Player X to Player Y!

      Remember how everyone on here tends to have a generic team? Well now all your minileague rivals will also have *that* team.

        I remember when I was a nipper I phoned Ocean to find out when the WWF game would be out on the Commodore 64. The lady at the other end was very nice and told me it would be out in time for Christmas, and it was. Hopefully the FPL people are equally sincere.
