The Premier League have confirmed to us this afternoon that their Fantasy game is in the final stages of testing for the new season but will not be going live today.

The game and site have been enhanced and, while things are almost complete, there are still some minor browser issues that need to be ironed out before the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) site can launch.

We can take this opportunity to dispel a number of rumours that have cropped up in recent days and confirm that all is well with the FPL and that the game will be free to play. There are also a number of significant improvements that we feel will be greeted with a very positive response from players and, in particular, our community; having voiced strong opinions on certain features of the game, you have helped influence some of the changes introduced.

We will endeavour to bring you details of those changes and any update on the release date. One of the benefits of our new relationship with the FPL is that visitors to Fantasy Football Scout will get information and enjoy a two-way relationship with the game organisers. This means that once the game is released and the new features announced, you can rely on us to feedback your reactions to the changes.

Hang in there folks.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I have an example of why all teams won't be the same, and why somebody giving tips on a Thursday works out to be irrelevant.

In the first example - Player x is reccomended ahead of player y. The casual player choses player y. I however choose player z becuase, unlike the casual player i have seen that player y might well be great for this week, but player z has a run of 4 easy games. Player y by the way ends up injuring himself before the match and didn't play.

Second example - Player x is reccomended ahead of player y. I have already got player y in on the sunday night becuase i have noticed that he was due to go up in price. My competitor wanted player y after the tip off on Thursday, however he can't afford him due to his price rise.

Information can only get you so far, where as forward planning gets you much further.

You can't plan too far ahead - I tried to outsmart my rivals last year in a similar way to what you suggest. What inevitably happened is the guy I chose with a great run of games inevitably got injured in the first 5 minutes of his next match, while in the process of walking off the pitch after getting a red card for punching the ref due to being unhappy at scoring an own goal.

My rivals who went with the sheep-like bandwagon choices, let's say Malouda early in the season then raked in the points.

"Easy runs" arguably hardly ever work out that way and teams you expect to get trampled usually end up beating the big clubs due to apathy of the freshly imported big name players who only care about scoring past Madrid on their CV rather than Blackpool.

To be clever in this game you sometimes have to jump on that bandwagon with everyone else unfortunately. Pick solid, regular point scoring players as captain rather than the big name striker *cough Torres *cough with the easy match.

Just looking at the Mail (urgh) FF site. Don't think the explanation of substitutions in particularly transparent (well, not to my eyes anyway).

"You can bring your substitutes into your team at any time before the first scheduled kick-off each day. This means, you can get best value out of your 15 man squad to maximise your chances to score points and best of all, it doesn't use up any of your transfers! You can swap a substitute with any player in your team, provided that it creates a valid team formation."

To you, does that mean that you can bring someone playing on Sunday off your bench to replace someone who played on Saturday and add to the Saturday points or replace them?

My point is really that now every tom dick and harry will be on this site, there is nothing wrong with that, but for me I will be posting elsewhere. There are going to be a hell of a lot more generic teams with the same players. I would safely assume that most of us on here at present think outside of the box in terms of player selections. Once all the new guys come on a lot of teams will be the same - the big danger being if those players hit hard with points etc it takes away the skill somewhat. Joe Bloggs could well have a blinding season with very little thought to his team.

The opening post on this says " Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it" Job done I would say..........

Eh, from being here for two years I can safely say everyone has pretty much had the same generic teams. The player who topped the captain's poll never seemed to come good, so it's not like we've had a great collective knowledge over the past few seasons. Nothing will change.

most of the people who don't care enough to have stumbled upon this site probably aren't going to bother reding the articles on the fpl site. and even if they find out about this site through that who's to say they're all then going to start using this site?

This exactly! The average Joe won't bother reading this site nearly close enough to be able to take advantage of it either. Most information on here is not just handed to us, we have to know how to make the information useful too.

But again, then you have to reinvent the wheel in order to stay ahead of those that come on here.

More people on a bandwagon means a larger price increase, so one decides to jump on that. However, casual players may well still have that player once he hits a bad run of games. In the mean time I've taken a 0.2 rise in price and have got someone else in that's doing the biz.

Of course there is always a negative view of every situation, but in reality, you just have to utilise what's changed to your advantage.

It might turn out that more people coming onto this site will increase your chances of success, if you do it intellegently.

    this reaction is ridiculous imo.
read the article again (the one before this), FPL is getting quite a basic, but more accurate 2 articles a week from FFS, that's it. the article says what they'll include and based on that i don't see how it in anyway will devalue the membership if you've paid it. are they posting the fancy ticker on the fpl site every week? are they posting every opta stat you could dream of every week?
and what's the big deal about bonus points? it's not like FFS will in any way have control over them for crying out loud they're just going to help explain them a bit better. people moan about them so here's a solution.
we made this site popular, we come here because we think they're the best articles and collection of information on fantasy football, but know we scratch our heads that they've teamed up with the daddy that is FPL? think of it another way, say you created a comedy show and it first gets screened on a small channel like itv4. the show rapidly picks up viewers because people think it's really good. due to that success bbc1 or channel4 approach you and ask you to do a series for them. you've earnt that chance, are you a sell-out for agreeing? no, you're reaping the rewards of your labour

Well the way I see it, im glad for the site making improvements, deals like this improves the site, rewards the site makers for their hard work.

in terms of us, its likely these positives will trickle down to better prizes in any competitions

ffs being close to fpl is only a good thing throughout the year regarding information

more people on the forums could mean a higher class of forumer too. Usually more brings down the average, but as was uttered at the end of last season , changes will be made regarding posting, so altho more will be attracted maybe only intelligent posts will survive (i.e a probationary periord for posters, thats what i would pick)

          all in all, good stuff

Yeah, it's pretty arrogant of the sulkers to come and flood the site with moaning because they've "lost an advantage".

1 - You've no idea what's going to happen yet
2 - This site is a privilege, not a right
3 - If you've paid for membership you haven't lost any of the tools you bought it for
4 - Welcome the challenge (if it turns out to be the case that everyone in the world does start using FFS as a resource).

I've won my work mini-league 2 years in a row, and though I really enjoy it, I do think it's about time someone else won. I don't know if I'm going to be able to deliberately sabotage my team (assuming I pull of the same results again), but I think I might leave the league if it looks as though I'm winning at the end, or something.

People lose interest if they just show up and get thumped every year, so it's not really fair :/

I think it's great that I managed to discover this site and pick up all my football knowledge from all the people on here. It made me view the game in a totally new light as I never really followed the sport as intensely as I do now and I will never view the game in another way (Real football not Fantasy Football now) ever again. So for what's it's worth...this site has been great for more reasons than just the game and if it can educate more people on the game in general then I say it's a good thing. The OPTA stats alone will make any junky of the game jump for joy...and that now includes me..haha...

Reading that Denilson threw his toys out the pram at being substituted. Anyone see anything like that watching the Arsenal game? Sort of hoping that's the last time we see him in an Arsenal shirt.

Can't remember the holiday snaps but this was due to his previous convictions for assault.

He has behaved himself in the last couple of seasons though, so it seems unfair.

    Stoked for the new season!

I don't know what everyone's complaining about re. the Scout's new relationship with FPL though.

This site is and always will be an ADVICE site. You don't have to do the things people recommend. The great thing about the site is that it gathers together a huge number of opinions, facts, updates etc.

It's an information database you can access, but when it comes down to it, you're the one making the choices in game.

I know I use and contribute to this site to share information so that some people can benefit from

Problem is if this place here gets too crowded you don't get proper advice anymore. Even last season the number of people who are just there to insult others was growing enormously. I'm not so keen anymore to give those people advice and I think many other FPL addicts won't as well.

Just been reading through the thread. Genuinely amazed at all the disappointment and even disdain about FFS's announcement. To me this site is the best place to read and chat about a favorite hobby. All the regular posters contribute to a balanced, unique and welcoming community that stands head and shoulders above any sports related forum I've been on. Mark and the lads should be very proud of what they've built here.
I've never understood how people think there's some huge advantage to be gained from all the "secret" information we get here. If you're seriously into your FPL than you'll know the premier league inside out and have probably spent an unhealthy amount of your spare time weighing up fixtures, form, potential, players mental state, managers tactics, weather forecasts etc. It's the nature of the beast.
The casual players that come looking for tips are part and parcel and most of us are more than happy to offer advice.
Kudos scouts, massive recognition from FPL and thoroughly deserved. It also means that we actually have a voice now and an avenue where we know concerns over silly rules etc will get across. We got ourselves an inside in the towers lads, its all good 😉

Well thats a lot of posts to read!

I have to say I liked the sight when it was a bit smaller and more rough round the edges, but its a massive well done to everyone who managed to get an FPL tie in and a column, especially as expansion was always a logical step once paying and money became involved. We all know who the reliable and sensible posters are, plus the newer ones will get bored or have to contribute positively to get taken seriously and be involved in the end (I hope you know what I mean, i cant find a less elitist way of saying it!) . I found it odd a year ago when we had a new influx but its not suffered and it is a huge game!

Good luck to all, I just hope the site doesn't slow ...quitting your job soon to live off FFS soon Mark? ;-). Congratulations

I wouldn't quit my job if I was him 😀 He's got an awesome job.

But yeah, it raises another point; if he hadn't taken this path, they'd be no ticker, and that was the killer app.

So the members fees pay for that, and he can continue to add improvements. If he'd just sat back and let the site continue as it was, it would have probably been caught up with countless other knock-offs, and they'd be about 3 people talking to each other on the site right now.

It seems people are not only demanding cake, but that they intend to consume said cake.

              Thanks, I appreciate that.

I just wanted to make sure you realise that Data Co. don't actually do anything other than give us permission to show it (it's still a lot of money though).

The ticker is produced without any fixture data, code or input from them whatsoever. It is 100% created by FFS (which is why you won't see it anywhere else).

Quite and people often moan about why doesnt the site have clout with FPL?

Fair play to Mark, its a great job, and as many have said, its an advice site, not a rules of FPL site! I myself think stats are limited and feelings/luck have more to it than people admit....

Anyway, well done Mark, lets chill one and all and see how things pan out. Remember the uproar when the second sub came in....it was the END of the world!
