The speed at which a certain Mr Torres went from irreplaceable to “Fernando who?” in the eyes of Liverpool fans can mainly be attributed to the displays of Luis Suarez. Arriving at Anfield just as El Niño headed south to Chelsea on the final day of the January transfer window, Suarez wasted little time in establishing himself as an Anfield favourite with a series of scintillating performances in the second half of the season.

Coming off the subs bench for his debut at home to Stoke, Suarez grabbed a goal in a 28 minute cameo that, despite a lack of match-fitness, hinted at what was to come. After missing out on an away trip to Chelsea the following week, Suarez started the final twelve games of the season for Kenny Dalglish’s side, missing only eight minutes of action from gameweek 27 till the end of the campaign.

A virtuoso display in Liverpool’s 3-1 home win over Man United in Gameweek 29 particularly caught the eye as Suraez tormented the eventual champions on his way to picking up 2 assists and 2 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Bonus Points for a 10 point haul haul that saw him resultantly leap onto many a Fantasy Watchlist.

Whether he partnered Dirk Kuyt or Andy Carroll upfront, his menace to opposition defences saw the Uruguayan finish the season with 68 FPL points from thirteen appearances, averaging over five points per game as Liverpool just missed out on a place in the Europa League.

Key Factors

  • Suarez’s game is clearly suited to scoring highly with the Bonus judges. A look at his stats in our Members Area illustrates just how influential he is for Liverpool and it reflects in the 14 Bonus points awarded over seven of his twelve starts. At home, in particular, Suarez stood out, picking up Bonus in five of his six Anfield starts.

  • Liverpool’s form under Kenny Dalglish gives definite cause for optimism. Prior to his January arrival, the club’s record under Roy Hodgson read (P20, W7, D4, L9 25pts) and, despite one point from his first two games in charge, Dalglish led the club to (P18, W10, D3, L5, 33pts) with a run of games from gameweek 24 to 36 that saw them win ten and draw two of their fourteen games. Under King Kenny, they beat Man City and Man United at home, while winning at Chelsea and drawing away to Arsenal.

  • Liverpool have a kind run of home games to start off the season (SUN, BOL, WOL, MUN, NOR, SWA) with only the Man United clash looking tricky on paper. Having won the corresponding fixture last season, Dalglish’s men will hold no fear going into the game. Currently starring in Copa America 2011, Suarez may end up playing late into July but has moved to dismiss fears of burn-out, assuring Liverpool fans he’ll be fit and ready for the new season.

  • With just half a Premier League season under his belt, it seems unlikely Suarez will be priced in the same bracket as more proven top-flight forwards such as Wayne Rooney, Robin Van Persie and -despite the uncertainty over playing time- Chelsea pair Didier Drogba and Fernando Torres. While the above-mentioned quartet should come in around 11.0-12.0, Suarez looks more likely to be around the 10.0 mark and will, more than likely, not even be the highest priced player from Liverpool, with Steven Gerrard still leading the way there.

  • Liverpool’s sixth place finish last season may prove to be a blessing in disguise for their league aspirations this coming campaign. With no European football to clog up the fixture calendar, Dalglish’s side can fully focus on the Premier League, meaning less possibility of rotation and more chance of his squad being fresher from one gameweek to the next, in comparison to their top-flight rivals.

From what I can gather they seem to play double headers one night after the other, with different pitchers (just guessing this bit), but on iPhone it shows both games but on PP on PC it gives today's games followed by tomorrow's further down, so easier to work out....

....you're looking for tonights so give me a minute and i'll give you the details....

Double headers are a consequence of games being cancelled - rain etc. 162 game season is generally played in 4/5 game blocks, then day to travel, then play again, but the pitchers work on a 5 man rotation.

        1. PSG are in for him now. Everton can't afford him, him & Harry Redknapp hate each other so he won't go to Sp*rs, Liverpool have piles of midfielders already, and Villa were fighting relegation last season.

        2. Of all those teams, I'd say PSG would most likely qualify for the Champions League this season.

        3. PSG will probably give him a big role in their team.

you think not? Even I wouldn't think Sp*rs will drop out of the top 6.

People used to talk about a big 4, but I'd say the gulf between 6th and 7th right now is greater than the gap between 4th and 5th ever was.

PSG just been taken over by Mid East consortium so now considered the richest club in the world, even beyond MC, although that's probably nit-picking. Personally, don't believe he could cut it in Prem - too lazy and too much of a pre-madonna, ask any Spurs fan.

How long before Man City, PSG, Malaga etc. form a breakaway league and play games of 3 halves in Qatar to massed ranks of indifference in the stands. Each game ending with an audience with the emperor at which he decides whether the players should live or die by giving them a simple thumbs up/down.......

Just got tickets to the DC United v Everton game on Saturday from my boss. Going on a short business trip to Washington tomorrow and have Saturday and Sunday off before going back on Monday. Anyone been or live there and could recommend a good restaurant and/or bar/club near West End? Staying at the Park Hyatt.

Haven't seen Everton live in over 3 years so really looking forward to it even if it's only pre-season.

I'm not sure I understand the question. You want to code it yourself but don't know if it's better to make it for iPhone or Android?

Are you equally good at the different programming languages each platform will require you to use?

no, i'm not going to code it myself. I have the idea of the app i would like to have coded/developed. What I need is some insight or advice on who to approach to get it off the ground. Recommendations for a developer or a company who do this

              Ah, I see.

If you want to have any chance to make money out of it I suggest you try to code it yourself, but if you just want to be able to use an app like that I suggest you post your idea on a coding/programming forum and hopefully someone will like it and do it for you. Unfortunately I don't really know which one to use in England, maybe Soop or someone else can help you out with that.

He's a typical example of a player being victimized by the online bloggers that people take as gospel. Somewhere inbetween all his injuries they decided that he was the most overrated player in the world and it caught on.

Ribery a few seasons ago woula gone for 40 mil. he was tip top. injuries and the underage scandal, not suprised if it would be a good deal for both bayern and ribery.

injuries do that and i hate it.
not sure what season it was, think it was his first season with bayern but saying he almost won the league on his own he was so good. him and toni i think it was

it's fair enough to say past success isn't much use now, just think it's harsh how a player who's had lots of injuries gets more stick than he should. kaka is another example imo, he was brilliant before the injuries

If you had to pick a Premier League team to bet £10 on (to win) every week for the season, who would you pick in the hope of making the most profit?

I reckon Stoke/West Brom based on last season

Great question. I reckon a team that don't settle for draws. If you can't find one of those I think you'd do well be picking a great home team.
