The first version of our season 2011/12 Player Projections are now available to our Members.

Members will find the Projections for each position by logging on to the Members Area and navigating to the relevant section. Use the top menu bar to view tables by position.

These Projections offer our first attempt at predicting the returns for players over the 2011/12 season. They are based on various factors including past performance, their Opta data, the likelihood of rotation, likelihood of injury and suspension, absence due to the African Nations Cup and finally, our opinion on whether they will rise or fall in fortune over the coming season.

The Projection tables include our prediction for goals, assists, clean sheets, yellow cards, Fantasy Premier League Bonus and Fantasy Premier League points.

Hours have been spent purring over calculations and data and then the Scout team have offered their view on the current standings with final tweaks made today.

These are not our final projections – given that we have had very few pre-season matches to assess formations and starting lineups, changes are inevitable. Only today the impending transfer of Charles N’Zogbia to Villa caused a change in the projections, with N’Zogbia himself tweaked, along with Marc Albrighton and Victor Moses of Wigan.

Such changes will be ongoing. It’s likely will be revised on a daily basis as the pre-season matches and summer transfers create extra variables and influence our thinking. We will of course notify you of any major changes and updates as and when they are implemented.

For now though, enjoy pulling apart this first effort.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Adam took a penalty in a pre-season game, unfortunately for us all, Kuyt wasn't on the pitch though 🙁

I'd imagine Kuyt would maintain penalties overall

There's talk of some sort of 4-2-3-1 formation (like under Rafa). Perhaps:

      Reina

      Johnson Carragher Skrtel Kelly

      Adam Lucas

      Kuyt Henderson Downing

      Carroll

Adam is a difficult punt at £9m when the scousers now have a long list of class midfielders.

    Ownage is nigh.

if gerrard is not fit to start the year, im going to think long and hard about getting adam in somehow. no one seems to agree but i think w/o gerrard, adam could justify the price tag and play every week

he did. you say he wont like its written in stone. Im not so sure. Adams best quality is his set piece contributions. I just dont see why you bring him in and take it all away from him.

But he is joining a team where Gerrard, Kuijt & Suarez will take pens ahead of him. He has slightly more chance of taking fk, but that would still be slim for me as Gerrard & Suarez would most likely take these

Kuyt will be on pens if Gerrard isn't fit.
Adam will share free kick duties with Suarez if Gerrard isn't fit.
Adam will get most corners even if Gerrard is playing.

no disrespect but where is it written the order of pen takers? its maybe not as blind of speculation as saying "suarez will be rested the first few weeks" but its still speculation. and again, im basing it on gerrard out of the equation. maybe kuyt would be first choice, based on his contribution last year, but i dont see why KD is committed to suarez over adam in that capacity.

It is never possible to know for certain of course but it is very ususual for a new man to come in and assume the penalty duties unless the team has a history of their established players have missed some recently. Gerrard, Kuijt & Suarez were already at the club and all have excellent record with pens.

You could say it is unprecedented - even Bent didn't take over pens straight away at Villa, and they had been missing them for fun over the years.

valid point. and maybe i am grasping. maybe im just replaying all those well executed set pieces adam contributed over and over in my head. he seemed like such a desired signing but whats the point if you dont utilize his best attribute? rhetorical question there.

not that they have definitive knowledge either, but for what its worth, the scouts appear to back adam on pens and free kicks were gerrard not to be available according to their set-piece takers list.

Barton should start the season on them at least. He ended last year on them with more competition (Nolan) and has been taking them in pre season (albeit in a second type team).

More over cant see any of the new boys given duties as it will add some pressure to the fitting in to the club and with Ameobi looking like being now 4th choice pick i think Barton should be safe in theory for now.

Its pre-season so lots of ifs and buts, Ameobi may well not start, but just thought id say. If Ba is out its a toss up between Shola/Best....

Like your team btw, close to mine, although Arfa being out has meesed mine up, as the Suarez doubt

Thanks guys, really struggling to choose a team this year, hardest in terms of pricing in my four seasons playing.
My thoughts on selecting Valencia: He's on the right and Fergie's a big fan of his, will Young and Nani be battling for the wingers position?
I'd rather choose Drogba over Torres, but i'm worried over Drogba's roll after the 50m spent on Torres?!
        And yeah Beattie :-(! 4.5m transfer free-up!

That was a comment by a guy (a reputable one in theory but still someone not in the Liverpool camp) who knows a guy, basically.

I'm not saying I disagree, I've always expected Suarez to be nowhere near the field come GW1, but until we hear word from the likes of Clarke or Dalglish I wouldn't take it as read.

i cant understand other than a fading reputation that draws you/anyone to starting the season with torres. valencia might be great at some point to have but way too crowded a midfield at old trafford atm. Dempsey is my boy, so im not going to disparage his selection, but he did most of his damage when zamora wasnt there.

Can anyone explain why Given is such a popular selection. Would have thought that based on value that Al-Habsi and/or Gordon is a better way to go. In 2009.2010 Given only achieved 3.7 points per game for ManC (who finished 5th) - surely A/Villa are not going to do any better!

Mostly to do with Mcleish - the way he sets his teams up means opponents are forced to resort to long shots. That usually means save points and clean sheets... Foster is an average keeper playing for a relegated side, but was easily the best value keeper last year

The other bonus is that being in Birmingham, there are a couple of teams that rotate home/away fixtures. I'm hoping West Brom don't sign Foster (or that he comes in at 4.5) as Given/Myhill looks a great combo

Just messing around with transfers and got this team. I know it's light at the back but do you think it's worth it?

    Given / Ruddy

    Kompany / Hughes / O'Shea / Salgado / Simpson

    Lampard / N'Zogbia / Taarabt / Sinclair / Moses

    RVP / Rooney / Holt

    Would appreciate any feedback.

I have something very similar. Started with the idea of having to have Roonney, Lampard and RVP and took it from there.

I flit between making the defence even worse and changing Holt to Zamora for early fixtures (other than that front 8 is identical). Also considering swapping one of the new boys to O'Hara... possibly Taarabat for the 0.5 although I really like QPRs fixtures.

      I think it's a very good team.

Thanks very much. I admire your balls for considering Zamora too but I don't think I could handle a more shoddy defence than that!

        Before messing around I had
        A) A. Cole, Orr, Downing, Rodallega

        Which became
        B)Hughes, Salgado, Moses, Rooney

So I guess it's a straight choice between them. Not easy at all.

I also agree on Suarez, i can't see why there's so much specualation over being rested? This is Liverpool's biggest charge on going for the title in a long time imo, Sunderland will be no walkover after their transfer activity, surely Dalglish will field his strongest team?
I view Torres as the Valentino Rossi of the EPL....on a different bike (Chelsea) still the same talent....?!

    Looking at the projections...

    O'Shea - 123 points
Bardsley plays one game less, scores 2 goals more, one yellow card more and one bonus point less - 122 points.

Using the numbers predicted Bardsley should have more points than O'Shea. I just wonder how often the number of projected points don't correlate to the projected number of clean sheets, goals etc.

    Given/Robinson

    Baines/Luiz/Kompany/Hangeland/Simpson

    Cahill/Walcott/Albrighton/Tarrabt/Sincliar

    Zamora/Vaughan/Bent

I think i have possibly shelled out a bit too much on Walcott and Cahill. But from a reasoning perspective, this is Cahill's full first injury free pre-season in years and Walcott has looked good so far in pre-season making all the right noises etc, plus his record against Newcastle and Liverpool is pretty decent over the last few seasons.

Surely Fergies statement this morning that they won't be bringing anyone else in is a load of smoke and mirrors.
    Their remaining centre mids are

Carrick - not good enough, fairly injury prone
    Anderson - not good enough
    Fletcher - weird virus thingy
Giggs - Getting on a bit
Gibson - probably on the way out, pretty rubbish anyway.

Not sure how well Cleverley would perform in a central role. Looking at that I'd say they definitely need a quality centremid, especially a defensive midfielder.

I agree, I hope it's smoke and mirrors:

Anderson - getting there, but not consistent
Carrick - Shit, passes the ball back, does f*ck all
          Fletcher - hmmmm
Gibson - Wastes as many shots on goal as Saha did
Giggs - Surely this is his last year?!?!

Cleverly is looking good but not ready to take up the mantle this year I don't think.

We need one more centre mid.

I love it when United fans do this. They'll slag off a player all season, then when a fan from another club says that the player isn't good enough for United they get all defensive. He didn't win those medals single handed now did he? Some would argue that he barely deserved a medal for the majority of those seasons.

Carrick isn't good enough? Is he not?

Four prem titles in five years as Demi, is an excellent achievment. No room for passengers at that level of football. We didnt win those titles despite Carrick, he played a huge part in every single one of them. And not Attila, he didnt win those titles single handedly, has any player ever won a league title single handedly? Ehhh no. Obviously you have your Messi's and Ronaldo types but one of the reasons theyre so good is because the players around them have adapted. Not even gonna bother with the statement 'some would argue Carrick didnt even deserve a medal'. Ridiculous.

And Facebook, English fans cry out for players with good ball retention, yet your basis for Carrick being shit is because he 'passes the ball back'. Just because he doesnt play a killer pass, or a 60 yard ball every single time he gets the ball doesnt make him shit. Have you heard of a guy called Xavi? World cup winner with Spain, has won the champions league a few times too, ring a bell? Yeah, he plays one forward pass for every 12 passes back he makes. Hes nopt shit though is he?

Also Attila, I have never once seen Demi criticise Carrick, in fact hes been one who has defended him. Silly to say hes been on his back all season, and have you considered that its only some United fans who criticise a player, then some other fans who don't?It's not getting all defensive, its only the ones who havent criticsied who reply.

Morning guys, this is more a statement of intent rather than RMT

    Al Habsi Given
    Kompany A.Cole Hangeland (Orr N.Taylor)
    N’Zog Tarrabat Sess Barton Moses
    RVP Rooney Zamora

Rooney mainly for week one and will be downgraded to Suarez when he starts, freeing cash to beef midfield – by then we should have a better idea which midfielders are worth getting. Even Zamora can be downgraded after Fulhams early good run, to whichever cheap forward is showing early form and freeing up more money for midfield.
So that my plan so far. Could change again though!

Thanks to FPL not updating the mobile site for the game I figured I'd check what team / type of player I had in GW1, etc. It's so easy to get wrapped up in prices and new look site it's sometimes hard to work out what your strategy was and/or should be. I must note that most of us had Ferguson from Birmingham play as our cheap 5th midfielder simply because he was always going to play and loved the bonus points. Turning my eye to the EA stats and that now being the barometer for bonus points I thought to check where Ferguson had ended up. He made the top 100. So who else made it from the CDM stable...Interestingly both Barry and De Jong had high ratings. With EA stats in play and CB even getting a good slot for BPs I turned to De Jong. At 5mil he is sure to start most games. As City keep more clean sheets he is more likely to get you 3pts a game rather than 2pts. Add now that he is on the BP radar and that 3 could go up to 4, 5 or even 6. This is a mirror of the Ferguson theory we all used a season or two ago.

Now I know he's not a spectacular choice and I am by no means suggesting he be picked straight away. What I am suggesting is that, should we find the EA stats act as we imagine and bonus points to filter his way then he may just be a good option for that lonely 5th midfielder role (should you choose to have your team setup that way). Having his points come off the bench as backup wouldn't be a bad thing. The only threat is his ability to get cards with yellow and red flashed often. Dyer and Moses may be options for that cheapy role but least we can sort of include De Jong (at least for now).

Well...it's just an observation I thought I'd share.

very interesting... but what you also need to see if whether there are other players from the same team with higher scores... cos it doesn't matter if a player is in the top 20 if there are 3 more players above him in the top 20 from the same team... Or am I missing something?

It's not how you're commenting it to be..It is just a theory for that cheap 5.0 role for midfield should anyone be looking for one. The new BP system will change things I feel and we could be scoring from players we usually would stay away from. That in itself is a worthy observation most would not have really touched on...that there may be more options lurking behind the scenes than we think...That is all...

True that...See now I didn't pick up on him because he didn't make that EA list but least by having this "conversation" we both have 2 names to keep an eye on...least for now (in theory).

Yes but your defence looks a bit bare and i don't think toure or kuyt will do well this season.

YaYa in as against swansea and good early fixtures, Kuyt in as i believe he will be on pens with gerrard out and maybe up front if Suarez misses first game

    Morning chaps.

Ivanovic vs Cole... talk to me.

I currently have Ivanovic in to save the .5, but it could be like last season, where Bosingwa is sometimes picked instead, when there's a tough European game midweek, or when Chelsea are at home to an easier team.

    What's your thoughts?

I think when you have a high priced defender you need to have security in both competition and attacking potential.

Ivanovic can also be employed as a centre back, reducing attacking returns, and his place in the side is no guarantee either

      I would prefer a hole, i mean a cole

Heh - see below! I'd like to save the .5 with Ivan over Cole.

Did you see his goal from the last warm-up match (Ivan's)? I noted that Chelsea had at least one CB playing very advanced. At one point it was Terry and the next Ivan...his run was class and the pass was brilliant to him...his finish would have made Drogba / Torres blush. I think our play will involve more of that action so making our CBs more threatening from open play as well as set-pieces. Ivan for me...he will play most games this season for sure...RB or CB...he's always in the box for a header too...

The CB playing higher is reported to be a tactic AVB uses often. (So they say)
