When it comes to midfielders, Arsene Wenger doesn’t have his troubles to seek. The Gunners boss, having seen his side’s pre-season preparation blighted by the continual speculation over the futures of skipper Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri, has confirmed Theo Walcott has flown home from the club’s training camp in Bonn due to an injury picked up in training.

Walcott sat out Monday’s training and boarded a flight home from Germany yesterday, ahead of this weekend’s Emirates Cup. The Arsenal boss, while not suggesting it’s a serious problem, did admit:

“Theo went home early and was due to have an MRI on Tuesday. It is an old ankle injury from the end of last season. It’s one that comes and goes.

“We need some more investigation because sometimes he’s completely free of it and sometimes it affects him. But we had to send him back because he couldn’t practice anymore.”

The news is a source of frustration for Fantasy managers- Walcott looks good for plenty starts on the right this season and coming in at 9.0 in Fantasy Premier League, may prove to be something of a bargain if one, or both, of Fabregas and Nasri follow the lead of Gael Clichy and depart for pastures new.

While new signing Gervinho could be an alternative in his possible absence, FPL have classified the former Lille man as a forward, and priced him at 9.0. Robin Van Persie is likely to be the front man of choice for the majority of Fantasy managers, however, leaving many to hope the likes of Nasri stays put, with the Frenchman surely a nailed-on starter for Wenger in the upcoming season.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Does anyone know a list of who will be on pens and free kicks this year...or at least who will most probably be on them?

+1. If Walcott was injured for the first game, I'd be very tempted with Gervinho in midfield, still slightly tempted by him as a forward, but if/when Aguero signs, there is no room for him.

Impressive, just not for me... (Fixtures aren't the best and Pens aren't common - Maybe an idea with freekicks though?)

I prefer looking at the first 6 fixtures and then basing my team on that... (plenty of time for transfers etc later)

    IF... Walcott is injured
    Nasri - Sold
    Fabregas - Sold

Arshavin could be a great differential!

Tell me about it. People need to cut me some serious slack, I had no idea that Gabbidon was a QPR player until I logged into FPL.

Nor did I know about Riise at Fulham, I thought it was some hilarious error where they had classed Bjorn Helge Riise as a uber expensive defender.

Nah, I mentioned it earlier.... The email account I have always used has now been closed (it was my school one, and they get de-activitated a year after you've left) so FPL won't let me log in usually that email account. So I've had to create a new profile on FPL.

    Given / (Ruddy)

Bosingwa / Kompany / Gibbs (Hughes / Simpson)

    VDV / N'Zog / Taarabt / Benayoun / (Barton)

    REPOST

Turnbull, Ferreira, Rajkovic, Terry, Cole, Benayoun, Lampard, Zhirkov, Kalou, Malouda, Drogba

I assume it’s 4-3-3 again but what positions are these people playing in? After reading that article from Big Dunc I’m wondering why they are playing 4 of their “widemen”? Lampard seems to be the only true centre mid in this equation. Who are the other two in the midfield 3?

Just goes to show that pre-season friendlies, more than anything, just dilute our thinking.

Very meh indeed. No indication of anything.

I'm still convinced that Lampard, as he has the least rivals to compete with in his particular position, is the safest option if you're going for a Chelsea attacker.

Lamps seems to playing as the more defensive of the middle 3 with Benayoun and Kalou roaming more forward. Plenty of touches on the ball trying to thread those passes. Couple of Lamps shots of.

Hey, its easier if you just post the differences between the teams, like:

A: Baines, Ward, Malouda, Sessegnon, Torres, Holt
B: Samba, Alcaraz, Silva, Tiote, RVP, Bent

Im not sure about Malouda. IMO he should start most games, but what do I know? People on here think he is a rotation risk!

      I prefer A since:
      1. It is more balanced
      2. I have Baines and think he is worth it

      My team:

      Given/Ruddy
      Baines Cole Kompany Hughes Bramble
      Lampard Wilshere Taarabt Nzogbia Barton
      Suarez Graham Zamora

A little defence heavy at the moment, but I see Cole and Baines as extra midfielders so its not too bad!

I think there's great value in the City def - Kompany is a must-have, and when he plays Lescott is fantasy gold. I could put Luiz in for Lescott, still considering that.

Thanks. I could go with Kompany, Lescott and Luiz at the back, but I'd have to downgrade VDV to some like Valencia.

If Luiz and Lescott are gonna start, that's a great defence, both in value and quality.

Two players definitely worth keeping our eye on before the season starts.

Yep, both goal threats in miserly defences. I don't think Mancini particularly rates Lescott as a CB, though, wouldn't surprise me if he brought in another CB (that £6m Serbian they've bought is one for the future, I think).

I'll worry about that if it happens, though.

Peoples – apologies about the repost - new to this an trying to gauge if the following will work. Appreciate any feedback.

    Schwarzer (De Vries)
    Baines, Bardsley, Kompany, Luiz
    VDV, N’Zogbia, Silva, Taarabt
    Rooney, Holt

Bench – Graham, Moses, Martin R.

I figure the Mids will cover the goals for the 2nd/3rd fwds.

    Alternatively:

My other option is to turn Taarbt into Tiote and then Graham into Zamora

    Thoughts??????

too much cash tied up in defence, midfield looks good. I'm struggling to see what you will do after gw 1. I think you should maybe rethink most of the team and look past gameweek 1.

Love that it is different but...

      Don't like it generally.
      - Not sure on that keeper pairing especially since De Vries may not be first choice no.1 next season for sure.
      - Still a question mark over Luiz. Also have my doubts on Martin R, he was on my own shortlist preseason until they signed De Laet which now puts a question makr over his head.
      - I dislike the Holt bandwagon.
