When it comes to midfielders, Arsene Wenger doesn’t have his troubles to seek. The Gunners boss, having seen his side’s pre-season preparation blighted by the continual speculation over the futures of skipper Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri, has confirmed Theo Walcott has flown home from the club’s training camp in Bonn due to an injury picked up in training.

Walcott sat out Monday’s training and boarded a flight home from Germany yesterday, ahead of this weekend’s Emirates Cup. The Arsenal boss, while not suggesting it’s a serious problem, did admit:

“Theo went home early and was due to have an MRI on Tuesday. It is an old ankle injury from the end of last season. It’s one that comes and goes.

“We need some more investigation because sometimes he’s completely free of it and sometimes it affects him. But we had to send him back because he couldn’t practice anymore.”

The news is a source of frustration for Fantasy managers- Walcott looks good for plenty starts on the right this season and coming in at 9.0 in Fantasy Premier League, may prove to be something of a bargain if one, or both, of Fabregas and Nasri follow the lead of Gael Clichy and depart for pastures new.

While new signing Gervinho could be an alternative in his possible absence, FPL have classified the former Lille man as a forward, and priced him at 9.0. Robin Van Persie is likely to be the front man of choice for the majority of Fantasy managers, however, leaving many to hope the likes of Nasri stays put, with the Frenchman surely a nailed-on starter for Wenger in the upcoming season.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Who would you all say is a MUST in defense, midfield and up front. I feel Kompany, Malouda, Bent should be in every team. The early fixtures for their teams mean they are goin to earn MAJOR points.

    Thoughts?

City allowed Galaxy a goal against - but I'd agree Kompany is a good shout. Don't rate Malouda (his chances of playing) or Bent (chances of not being in a cold spell).

Lampard and Rooney for me. Takes money to make money.

Just feel Flo will start on fire again, Bent is scoring goals for fun in pre season and villa have a very favourable first 5 games and kompany is poss the best defender in maybe the tightest defence in the league so will rack up the bonus points in the new system.

lampard is too much dollar for me so not worth the outlay.

Feel this is a good topic for disscusion as well as who would you AVOID in them posistions?

Don't get me wrong, Malouda and Bent aren't *bad* choices ... but you asked for MUST haves; I was explaining why I don't.

And even if Lamps + cheapy is < or = two mid-high priced, I need a captain. I need one player to score two player's worth. You need 2-3 top (price) players for (C) choices each week.

I know it's not the prevailing wisdom on here, but I'll stick to what has worked for me.

I'd avoid Arse defenders, 'Pool middies (until lineups become more static), and promoted-team forwards.

I think he will play a more pivotal role, similar to what Nasri did last year.

He was more holding last year and I think he will be used forward more this.

I like him a solid 6.5M, who should get a fair few assists and BPs, as well as a good 6-10 goals.

From what I've seen from preseason, I reckon Rafael has the RB, spot for the moment at least and Kalou was just sort of a slot filler for some cheapish chelsea attacking cover. I did have Ramsey who is same price as Wilshere but I wasn't really sure if he'd be a starter? And I didn't think 8mil was really too expensive in the current pricing.

Past performance does not ensure future returns.

This year was his first, in years, of a proper off-season and pre-season. He's firing. He'll get service. He's as nailed on as you get. Likely to benefit, imo, from new BP system, 'big game player' = fixtures mean little.

Forgive what is probably my inexperience in regards to fantasy football but I've noticed the majority on here are picking players who play for teams with 'easy' early fixtures e.g. Villa, Fulham?, Chelsea and so on.

My question is after these teams play all their 'easy' fixtures what do you guys plan to do? I guess Chelsea players have chance to score points every game week but players from Fulham/Villa as I mentioned, it'll surely involve a lot of transfers out to bring in other players, particularly if the players you did choose due to fixtures didn't score points as planned.

    Cheers

Team now. Made a few changes. I like how I have money in the bank to correct any early mistakes. Forgetting how last season I was saved by the 1.0 I had in the bank which allowed me to jump on the Malouda wagon.

    Given, Kenny

    Kompany, Alcaraz, Brown, Senderos, Simpson

Silva, Van Der Vaart, Sessegnon, N'Zogbia, Dyer

    Van Persie, Zamora, Suarez

0.5m to potentially do Van Der Vaart > Malouda or Suarez > Bent or Senderos > Hughes/Fabio or whatever.

I guess that's just different strategies talking. Price rises early doors matter a lot to me, and attacking players are always the ones that go up faster.

The defense is also deceptive because taken cumulatively, it looks bad, but gameweek by gameweek, and you'll find it's not so bad at all. For week one, I have:

        Kenny (BOL)
        Kompany (SWA)
        Alcaraz (NOR)
        Senderos (AVL)

I would back all of them to keep cleansheets as much as Cole (sto) or Baines (tot.

Fair enough, I think a lot of the players with nice fixture runs early on have crap fixtures in GW 1, however with 1 free transfer I would like some players I do not have to think about wasting a transfer on for the opening 5 weeks.

          You defence GW 2 has

          Kompany (bol)
          Senderos (wol) if he plays.
          Alcaraz (swa)
          Simpson (sun)
          Brown (NEW)

None of your defenders have any attacking threat and I don't really see any chance of a CS for any of them except possibly Kompany who is a hugely popular pick so it's a non event.

Baines (QPR) CS, penalties, BP's free kicks and bombing forward potential.

Cole (WOL) CS, BP's and serious attacking threat.

I would back Baines or Cole to outscore your entire defence apart from Kompany over the first 5 GW's single handedly.

Suarez may not play the first couple of games of course. And he's owned by 40% so his price may drop quick.
Also, you feel ok with no chelsea coverage for gw 2 & 3 or plan to bring in one of their starters after gw1?

senderos isn't first choice at fulham. other than that i think it looks good. i am swithering between VDV / Malouda. would normally be VDV but given chelsea's relatively easy start (punished me last season) then im tempted to go with Malouda. depends if he is a dead cert in the new gaffers plans though...

The RMT's are not only pointless but annoying as you say, it is the nature of the beast though, I just hope a balance can be maintained and the admins can keep up with the trolling and are strong enough to act upon it properly.

I didn't see the new site beta but I think with the massively increased traffic unless the comments system is altered we will be drowing in abusive trolls, RMT's and ridiculous questions, all decent debate could cease.

With the increased traffic, I imagine a Saturday morning pre-deadline page will be gone in an instant. Last gasp info will probably be a lot harder to find on the threads.

Latest team after a lot of tinkering. Trying hard to get at least some coverage from the team with good starts ie Chelsea, Man City, Wigan, Fulham, Villa & QPR.

      Given Al-Habsi

      Kompany Luiz Clichy Orr Taylor(Swa)

      Sinclair Sessegnon Taarabt Silva Lampard

      Zamora Rodallega Bent

      notes -
If Luiz is not starting then swap him for Ivanovic & Clichy for a Villa or Fulham defender.
in GW4 plan to do a double transfer of Lampard & Rodallega to RVP & Brunt/Tchoyi

      Opinions??
