Man City hammer Inter as David Silva pulls the strings. Alan Pardew’s unhappy. Wesley Sneijder fails to write off a move away from Inter and Daniel Sturridge wants to stay at the Bridge thanks to a new-found freedom. Here’s this morning’s Scribbles, folks:

Bolton have been linked with a move for Shaun Wright-Phillips following the sickening leg-break injury to Chung Yong-Lee. The Man City star would fit seamlessly into Owen Coyle’s starting XI, though his wages may prove to be a stumbling block. The Trotters’ new signing Chris Eagles can play on the right flank and comes in at 5.5 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), though Coyle has been playing Eagles as a support striker in recent games, meaning a possible right wing role for Gretar Steinsson or Tyron Mears if Coyle fails to bring in re-inforcements. With both listed as 4.5 defenders, it’s a situation worth monitoring.

Staying on the subject of Bolton, Coyle has also been linked with another loan move for Daniel Sturridge as he looks to shuffle his pack. Citing his great relationship with Andre Villas-Boas, Coyle then proceeded to lavish praise on Sturridge, with his admiration for the player very much apparent:

Daniel is such an outstanding young talent but I think he has to play week in, week out now. He’s had six months of being a regular starter with us and he will probably know he’s got to start these games now. I played him through the middle and he was sensational for me. I always felt he wanted to play through the middle…

If Sturridge‘s latest comments are anything to go by, however, Coyle’s pursuit of the player may prove to be a fruitless one. Sturridge seems a happy man under Villas-Boas and in light of the club’s sixth straight pre-season win, has been talking of a new-found freedom to his play:

The manager has given me the licence to express myself and I don’t think I have had that before with any manager. He has let me off the leash and said go out and enjoy yourself. I have a lot more freedom than I have ever had and I think I enjoy my football more..

It is not just me either; everyone feels like that. He wants us to attack and not be too defensive. That is refreshing. The tour has been great. The manager has shown faith in me.

Fantasy managers will be crossing their fingers and hoping Sturridge does depart Stamford Bridge, though; at 6.5 in FPL his performances for Bolton last season suggest he’ll be a real bargain. If he stays at Chelsea, squad rotation looks likely to kill off his Fantasy potential.

Javier Hernandez’s Gold Cup exploits for Mexico and the subsequent rest period was always going to mean the striker had some catching up to do in terms of match fitness. With the striker now sidelined with concussion, his pre-season training schedule has been further disrupted and Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted the player may not be available until the end of August, meaning there’s a chance Hernandez may not see any Premier League game time until game week 4, in mid September:

Javier was always going to get a break until he did his proper pre-season. In a two-week period now he’ll do some training but he won’t play. We’ll have him back in three to four weeks.

Arsenal suffered a scare in yesterday’s draw with New York Red Bulls when Jack Wilshere was withdrawn after only seven minutes with an ankle knock. With Abou Diaby already sidelined for ten weeks and Cesc Fabregas looking likely to exit the Emirates, the last thing Arsene Wenger needs is more injuries to central midfielders. The Gunners boss seemed positive on Wilshere after the match, saying:

It is not very serious. They say he might be out for the whole of next week because he has an ankle inflammation. But he has not torn anything. He is a quick healer usually and a tough boy so I hope he will be quicker than the medical predictions.

The England game is on August 10 and I don’t know [whether he will be available]. They told me he might be out next week. If he is out next week, he will not play against Benfica so he will certainly not play for England.

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew was far from pleased with his club’s 3-2 loss at Leeds yesterday. Pardew fielded many first-teamers in the Elland Road defeat and despite his disappointment, was full of praise for a couple of his new summer signings after the match:

Sometimes in a game like that you learn more, and I’ve learnt more about individual players today than I have all pre-season. Cabaye was a positive – he played the holding role and you could see that, although he is a great passer, he also has defensive qualities…Demba Ba was good in all he did without actually getting a goal, and Danny Simpson played well.

Steven Taylor showed his scoring capabilities once again for Newcastle. The big centre-half grabbed his side’s first goal and served a reminder of the form that saw him score in each of his side’s final three games last term. At 4.5 in FPL, he looks a decent punt for a low-price defender.

Roberto Mancini was a happy man after Man City’s 3-0 demolition of Inter Milan. With an outstanding David Silva pulling the strings from the right flank and resultantly picking up the man of the match award, Mancini also saw Mario Malotelli and Edin Dzeko find the net as his strikers start to pick up form ahead of next weekend’s Community Shield showdown with Man United.

Post-match, Mancini praised all three players but his most intriguing comments came when the subject of Carlos Tevez arose, suggesting the striker‘s exit may not be as definite as previously thought:

When Carlos comes back on Thursday we will have four strikers fighting for the shirts. That’s good for us. When you are playing in four competitions, we need that.

Wesley Sneijder was somewhat cryptic in yesterday‘s post-match press conference in Dublin, after Inter‘s loss to Man City. The Dutchman has been linked with a move to Man United all summer and although Sir Alex Ferguson seemed to write off the chances of the transfer last week, Sneijder was not quite so pessimistic. When asked if he was likely to remain an Inter player next summer, Sneijder replied:

“What will happen? We will see. There is always a chance that something will happen, but we will see. There is always speculation. I’ve said before, I’ve played for almost 10 years at the highest level and every year there is speculation.”

Blackburn Rovers look set to finally make some leeway in the transfer market over the next few days. With Phil Jones leaving Ewood Park and talk of Chris Samba’s exit, Steve Kean looks to have a positive addition to the Rovers ranks in the form of Dundee United striker David Goodwillie.

Balotelli is now in my team.
He's scored a couple of goals in pre season and seems a nailed on starter.

Tevez has been sat on a beach eating pies for the last 3 weeks. Even if he does play for City again it wont be until September earliest.

I think I'm pretty close to a final lineup...

    Given
    Kompany/Baines/Cole (Figueroa/Simpson)
    Lamps/O'Hara/Moses/N'Zog/Taarabt
    RVP/Zamora (Best)

    Criticisms
    1. Heavy investment in defence
I know... but I have a feeling Baines & Cole will basically play as wingers this year anyway. Can always downgrade them if this isnt the case after the first 3 or 4 rounds of games.

    2. Victor Moses
I think he is a worthwile gamble - N'Zog & Cleverly leaving free up ~76 games a season for him, so playing time shouldnt be an issue. He's classed as a midfielder so has a slight OOP going for him. Norwich home is a nice opening game. Cheap as chips, necessary to make sacrafices when crowbarring in RVP + Lamps + subs that will play.

    3. Adel Taarabt
Probably least secure in my lineup. Will he really cut it in the premiership? The more I think about it the more I might get rid and sit back and watch how he gets on in the first few games... the only problem is that if he does start well, QPR have great opening fixtures so the ship may have sailed after the first few weeks. Set piece duties + being QPRs main attacking weapon make him worth the gamble anyways.

    4. Lamps
Can having Lampard ever be a bad thing in Fantasy football? I don't think so. Starting without him would just be too stressful when I have to rearrange my team after a few weeks to accomodate him. He's expensive for a reason.

I've gone for the same type of defence as you. I think having Kompany, Baines and Cole in your team could be a goldmine over the course of the season.

That back 3 combo just looks "right" doesn't it? They should pick up serious points over the year, and all have the added bonus of solid opening 5/6 fixtures, so its not as if we'll have to wait ages for the returns to start rolling in which always takes the pressure off that transfer trigger finger 🙂

Best did well last year when he played and is a bench striker so not a huge priority at the minute... but a better 5.0 striker would be nice.

I can't bring myself to start without Lampard. He always brings home the bacon and don't expect him to do any less this year!

When he played is the key - you want someone who's a regular starter as a bench player, however cheap, as you never know when they'll be auto-subbed in. Holt or Graham perhaps?

well put together reasoning imo swearengen one of my poss sides does have baines and cole so i cant criticise u for that also agree about moses and taarabt....interesting that uve gone for fat lad as ive gone the other way and found my chelsea coverage in either frogs or bandit from chelseas front line and not gone with the midfield as dont like the value (or lackk of it in their midfield.....now modric at 8.0 is another thing entirely 😉

Price rises aren't in your favor by going Cole, Baines, Kompany.

I really don't like the 3 heavy hitting defenders route at all. Defender rotation is proven to be effective, and by eliminating that, you lower your chances of making use of the funds saved for the front 8.

I'm guessing you will be playing 342 or 352 each week? If so, you may as well swap three of those mid priced defenders for cheapos with rotating fixtures and just play one of them each week. The money you save can go to upgrading the other two defenders

I've tried to stay away from the stereotypical team on here.
Everyone's team pretty much looks the same.. except mine.

      De Vries
      Kompany-Baines- A Cole
      Barton-N'zgogs-Downing- Yaya- Dempsey
      Suarez- Balotelli

      Ruddy- Beattie- Orr- Simpson

I know there is uncertainty over Balotelli but I'll wait till the community shield to see for myself.

There's a reason there's a standard team, and it's because it's the best sort of team.

No captaincy choices hurts you badly.

      Ha ha, nice comment.

To be fair though, there's usually a reason why people go for players.

For example, Hart is a choice value when you consider than Kompany and Given are such good value (unless you decide to double up on City of course). I suppose you could argue for getting Cech in since there aren't many cheap routes into the Chelsea defence that are 100% to start most games.

If it wasn't for the uncertainty surrounding the first choice at each club, then I'd say SUN/NEW goalies were best combo at 9.0m

I'll probably go for that combo with my Wildcard - which will probably be in GW2 if past season are anything to go by 🙁

not an RMT and a little long but any thorts greatly appreciated

the problem 5th mid at 6.0 a proper bitch, albrighten? sinclair? barton? brunt? jarvis? davies or duff from fulham??,

3 villa players but only 1 starting wk1, see above point

not so bothered about the 1st gw wanted a squad based on fixtures for the opening 6 games based on attacking/clean sheets ticker, silva capt wk1, torres capt week 2 & 3

leaves me with 2 mill in the bank, am very keen on keeping the cash to bump up the possibilities for the double transfer in wk 3,

real transfers can still change the make up tho with jags & enrique but the modric move to chelsea wud defo change things meaning my che coverage wud change and more cash to invest without the torres outlay

given…proven quality at this level, great value, good rotation up to wk9, would expect big ek to increase defensive strength at villa, save points

kenny…good rotating keeper with given, BOL WBA AVL BLA 1st 4 home games

jagielka…QPR AVL WIG at home in 1st 5 games, gives an eve presence without the baines price tag for their easier than most start to the season, gotta have a good start sooner or later, good way to access the arsenal def if he moves to north london and will rise in price quickly due to the cheap access to gooners def, but do want an eve def so could go disdin instead

kompany…reclassiified as a defender this season, 17 (i think) clean sheets last year for citeh, nailed on starter home or away most weeks, good value and access to citeh back line

jose enrique…attacking dimension to his game, good c/s possibilities for new 1st 6 games, rotates well with sun. for good home games, would be a good way to access the pool defense if he goes to merseyside and wud rise in price the same way as jags would

hughes…AVL BLA MCY QPR only citeh a difficult home fixture in 1st 4.one of the better 5.0 def options? scored well last season,an ok rotation with everton for home games 1st 6 games

o'shea…maybe the best value defence around? links very well with newcastle for home games except wk1, capt so a likely start

sessegnon…oop to me means better value so he'd be starting to justify the inclusion, price, value, form at the end of last season a good indicator considering their injuries for both team and player , and carried that form thro to pre season, this seasons bosselli???

silva…the best options for citeh mid, liked by mancini with a good season last time out, wanted citeh attacking coverage, great 1st fixture and one of the better starts from the big sides with fixtures to match, for this crucial birth in my mid!!!!!

taarabt…fulcrum of the qpr side, potentially good opening fixtures really cudnt hope for more for a promoted side as more likely to start well, on fire last year in the championship, takes pens

albrighten…transfers out of villa mean a likely starter with increased role, did well last year and gives the budget (better value)? accessebility to the villa mid over nzogbia, couldnt wish for a better opening set of fixtures

    or

sinclair...takes the set pieces and what goals they do score will come thro him, viable starter at home to WIG SUN WBA in 1st 6 games, this years adam?

moses…good opening 3 fixtures, nzogbia leaving means an increased role, just about best value in attack at 5.0 price range, a cheap punt thats harmless imo

bent…great opening fixtures, on pens, scores maybe irregularly but is the central threat for villa with potentially good supply line, almost certainly one of the better starts (attacking fixtures wise) this season

zamora…very similar to villas start, when fit and not broken think he always looks threatening, joll will use him well, likely starter, think fulham have the best start (fixtures wise) in the whole league attacking pottential wise with only man city at home in wk 5 only big club to play

frogs or bandit from chelsea...need a chelsea striking presence in the side not sure anyone in their mid is good value and guaranted so goes to the front line, ering towards bandit (torres), if only due to the pressure for him to play price tag etc oh n that he actually scored 😯

No mention of NANI anywhere. Highest scoring Mid last year, with ManUtd looking strong Pre-Season... Why's he not in everyone's team?

Is this due to price or rotation risk with Valencia/Young?

I'm not sure he will be outdone points wise by Silva / VDV.

Please feel free to put me in my place if I am missing something here?

Oh, and anyone remember that contraversial goal he scored against Tottenham last year! XD

You said it, it's because of rotation risk. If he was nailed on I would consider it but I chose Silva because he pretty much runs the attacking flow for City.

Think the general consensus is that Nani has competition from Young/Valencia/Park whereas Silva and VDV are nailed on.

Fergie loves a rotation as well doesnt he!

I would love someone to convice me that Nani will start most games though...

Flippin' Fergie. I guess Young thrown into the equation has made things tricky.

Right, almost done. One last decision:

    1) Cole, Malouda and Graham
    2) Lescott, Benayoun and Suarez

    I already have Kompany.

    Which one floats your boat?

Yes. You want at least one around the 10 mark so you can make an easy transfer. Im aiming for two of Silva, Malouda or VDV so i can bring in the likes of Walcott, Kuyt, Nani etc.. easily.

There;s a lot of potential around that price but if they flop it could be big trouble. e.g. Taarabt and sinclair, both pen takers and main men for their team but if they can't do it in the prem or if their teams aren't performing around them it could spell trouble. Sessegnon looks a bargain at that price though and if Hernderson is starting week in week out he'd be good value too.

Don't like Dyer. Now that I've explored the options, there are much better. Take a risk on a Norwich mid or Ephraim from QPR. He's a 4.5 bench sitter. He won't play 90% of the time. If you strike gold, then you get some price rises, if not, the low ownership will mean you won't lose money.

ditch gibbs for a cheaper sunderland defender. Gibbs will not get you clean sheets for a while.

I'd choose two of Nani- YaYa and Malouda to free up some funds to improve on tiote and Ranger.

Suarez may not start the season...keep an eye on that.

Keep risks to a min. Ranger, Holt, tiote, Taarab and Ruddy are all risks. I'd like to see Tiote and Ranger in partic removed and replaced with better.
