Robin Van Persie is at the centre of another injury scare on the eve of the season after suffering an ankle knock against Benfica on Saturday.

The Dutchman was forced off the field in the first-half of the 2-1 defeat having given the Gunners the lead with a clinical finish from Kieran Gibbs’ cut-back.

Following the goal, Van Persie suffered a knock on the ankle following a clumsy challenge – the striker played on but was withdrawn at half-time with Marouane Chamakh seeing action.

The extent of Van Persie’s problem remains unclear, Wenger gave us this vague summary in his post-match comments…

“It is an ankle problem, I don’t know how bad it is.â€

We will presumably learn more on the “problem†over the next few days and Fantasy managers will be hoping for some clarity from the Arsenal camp prior to Saturday’s squad selection deadline.

Arsenal also suffered further setbacks on the day with both Gibbs and Thomas Vermaelen suffering thigh and back injuries respectively.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

This has prob been asked before, but does anyone know where we'll be able to see our points? There doesn't seem to be a tab for it. Unless you have to click your team name in one of your mini-leagues, but that seems like too much work.

Thats why I am not touching sissyon until I see him for a bit.

Last year.. Petrov, Boselli, Kolarov, Elmo to name but a few 'errors of judgement' !

I am not following this year, but leading.

PS - I dont go for this lampard deeper role stuff either !

Sessegnon isn't really in the same category though. He played up front end of last season and score goals.

Kolarov was based on potential that never came through, Boselli was on pre-season which never came through. What exactly was wrong with Elmo?

Yep, no RMT for me, my team will be mine, not influenced so only myself to blame!

I don't either, people forget that Preseason is all about fitness and experimenting, if someone plays loads in preseason or in a different postion it doesnt mean that they will play when the season kicks off, it's just so the manager can see if he can do a job and in a particular position.

I'm finding midfield the hardest choice. I'd normally have some big hitters lining up there, but the absence/doubt over most of them is sitting uneasily.

      Midpriced players worry me.

          Here's a thought, Dzeko.
Yes he was pretty poor last season, but he is a good target man and now he should have settled into English football. If he starts today I can see him being the target man of a 4-3-3 with Aguero and Tevez when Citeh play more attacking, as they should against Swansea. Mancini has already intimated that he will favour a more attacking system so could be good.
Still though ANY of the City attackers is a gamble given their options.

I'm finding it difficult to look past Silva at the minute - every time I see him in preseason he seems to be cropping up in advanced positions and threading balls through.

That said, the minute I get a whiff of a nailed on starter for City upfront (if one emerges) then he'll be in my team.

Not sure if Dzeko will be that player - but could be a shout early on if he is.

Just to clarify- how nailed on is Lescott? Is he facing much competition from Savic/how long is toure out for?

I think he's absolutely nailed on for starters and even once Toure gets back from his ban (sometime in Oct i think?). Savic is just a youngster isn't he? And not a wonderkid like Subotic who would've given him competition.

I think Lescott is worth the extra £0.5m over the likes of Kompany purely on goal threat. Kompany may do well under the new bonus points system though.

I thought Lescott came good towards the end of last season and I think he is reasonably secure. Obviously a form dip would change that.

            Here's the fans' views though:

          A couple of questions:

          1. Is Gibbs a consistent enough starter?

          2. Malouda & Hoilett or RVP & 4.5 midfielder?

          3. Is Given first team for AV?

Everyones going mad for Silva this year, and i know hes an absolutely quality player, but a true fantasy football pro knows that you need to be more than an excellent player to score well on this game.

He's not on Pens, He doesnt take free kicks, he doesnt score an awful lot of goals... I think theres better purchases for the money. 0.5m extra for VDV? Any day.

Nah. A couple of goals, probably a fair few assists and a lot of bonus points... but all to uncertain for me. I would use the money to strengthen other areas of my team, and bring in key players that are on set pieces from smaller teams to spread the points around my side.

Rodellega is a bit of a risk. He's not the most consistant, and Wigan dont normally win when you'd expect them to. Im guessing you put him cuz of his first few fixtures. Other than that a great team. Can you rate my team now please. (1 post up)

MAN CITY - TEVEZ V AGUERRO or TEVEZ+AGUERRO???

Mancini's reckons he need 15 more goals from his team this season to win the title. His set-up last year was completely reliant on Tevez - how many purely individual goals did he score? (robbed of player of the year, imo) But ultimately, Tevez as a lone striker wasn't enough - changes need to be made.

          TWO SCENARIO'S

          1) TEVES GOES
If Tevez goes, those are huge boots to fill, and altough Mr Aguerro is a really great player, to ask him to come in and do what Tevez did (or even better!?) is a bit much. So he might need to play more than one forward per game.
Although this may result in more goals generally, the attacking points will be more evenly spread around rather than concentrated on one talisman.
RESULT - Aguerro big points scorer, rivalling Rooney, RVP and whoever leads Chelsea's attack but maybe just short of their mark.

          2) TEVEZ STAYS
if Tevez stays - and we know if he does he will give everything on the pitch (he always has) so we can expect similar returns as he runs amok again. Aguerro would be reduced to playing wide where, as we saw with Silva, Johnson and Milners returns - the point-scoring will not be heavy.
RESULT - Aguerro is a minor points scorer, maybe enough to contribute toward Mancini's extra 15 goals ro bring the title, but not enough fantasy value to regularly justify 11.0

THE ONLY OTHER POSSIBILITY - is if Mancini alters his formation to move Toure back at Barry's expense and put Aguerro in up top (perhaps with Teves being the one "playing in the hole".
But I really doubt this. Mancini is Italian. Defence comes first.

CONCLUSION: If Tevez stays, he's the best £12m player - even better than last year with Aguerro's assistance. Buy him with confidence.
Aguerro however, works out expensive whichever way you look at it, so only use him for easy home mathces.

Sorry for length of this post, but I think the Tevez/Aguerro sitation is the key to this Premier League season and i'd be very interested to hear what people's thoughts are.

Great post. I agree with most of your conclusions.

the extra emphasis on goals provided by the bonus system may diminish defenders importance slightly, but it at least counter-acts the overly high value of assists in the game.
Eg. Yaya Toure rolls the ball 5 yards to Tevez 40 yards out from goal, he beats 5 players before amashing it in.
Toure gets 3 points, Tevez gets 4. 1 more point isnt enough imo.

To be fair though, the other scenario is that someone beats 3 players before setting up a tap in for a midfielder --> 3 points Vs 5 which kind of undervalues the assist

The one thing I know for sure right now (and can't see the CS game changing this either as we know Tevez & Aguero wont start) is that I can't choose ANY man city forward.

All too risky IMO. I'm planning to get a few GWs under my belt and if Tevez is back or someone else has emerged as a heavy point scorer from the City forward line then I'm prepared to transfer them in.

Interesting post, i reckon Mancini knows that he cant rely on Tevez again so heavily this year so he will be more inclined to give others the chance to fill the goalscoring boots.

An Aguero / Tevez partnership would be phenomenal IMO, i reckon Mancini will be excited at the prospect of this and try it out. I think all his talk about more 'attacking' football is rubbish though, City are never gna be a free scoring team under his management, defence will always come first as you suggested. Kompany, Hart and Tevez to me are the only players in the team that anyone should be touching, and if Tevez comes out all guns blazing he will be an instant addition to my team.

Year of the forwards. I'd get at least 2 big names up front.

            Rooney / Tevez / V . Persie / Suarez / Carroll / Bent

Thats just what i think though, it looks an alright team, just not many viable captain options.
