Wenger Unclear On Latest Van Persie Scare

Robin Van Persie is at the centre of another injury scare on the eve of the season after suffering an ankle knock against Benfica on Saturday.

The Dutchman was forced off the field in the first-half of the 2-1 defeat having given the Gunners the lead with a clinical finish from Kieran Gibbs’ cut-back.

Following the goal, Van Persie suffered a knock on the ankle following a clumsy challenge – the striker played on but was withdrawn at half-time with Marouane Chamakh seeing action.

The extent of Van Persie’s problem remains unclear, Wenger gave us this vague summary in his post-match comments…

“It is an ankle problem, I don’t know how bad it is.â€

We will presumably learn more on the “problem†over the next few days and Fantasy managers will be hoping for some clarity from the Arsenal camp prior to Saturday’s squad selection deadline.

Arsenal also suffered further setbacks on the day with both Gibbs and Thomas Vermaelen suffering thigh and back injuries respectively.

          if i go torres ill have an extra 2 mill in the kitty which i would spend somewhere else, most likely a defensive upgrade.

                Looks good! A bit cheap defence maybe.
                Stick with Rooney for now, wait and see if Torres or Drogba starts. Im going with no forwards from Chelsea gw1, and then buy one for gw2.

          I'm out of here actually. Stupidly late.

          But still time for one more RMT!

          Defense is a shambles. Gibbs, Briggs and Enrique (until he makes his move) are disposable. Go with someone like Taylor of Swansea, and some 4.5 defenders (Alcaraz, Bramble). Reliability is important since you're rotating a back 3 with only Kompany staying put
          .
          Midfielders are strong. I actually quite like Lampard in there, somehow, it fits in with your team better than most. I'm not a big fan of O'Hara or Johnson, but you can justify getting them. Johnson in particular is risk.

                  I don't know about that actually. Only Simpson is a 4.0 from Newcastle, and you're unlikely to want to play him with his opening fixtures. Swansea and QPR rotate perfectly all season.

                Simpson & Taylor are my 2 4.0 defenders. I'll barely play either but they rotate well early on so I can always call on one when needed.

            You'll be playing at least one EVERY match-risky strategy if you ask me. QPR came out if the champ with an excellent defensive record... A few have had Orr in their teams, but Dyer I think has been playing RB. Similarly Gorkks (sic) linked with us away. De Laet at NOR looks a possibility... Although they keep hardly any C/S, he does look to be a 90min man that goes up for set pieces.

              Bosingwa looks real good, but the injury on Luiz was just pain in the knee. So anyone besides terry and Cole are risk of rotation IMO. I think people should wait until the last day to decide on that matter.

          Defense is too heavy. Captaincy is going to be an issue with all the risks you're taking.

          I usually like some of the more risky teams, but this one is way out there.

          Hangeland, Clichy, Rafael can all be downgraded for better options to fund more reliability in midfield.

          Needs some Chelsea coverage too.

            +1, your defensive is expensive, but still hasnt got any reliable scorers/starters, - Alcaraz. Your midfield has some good scorers, but it also lacks any consistency with most of these players flashy, it is fine having these type of players but you need to support them with 1 or 2 mainstays. and your forward line is quite pricey with the majority of your funds, going with a man who has never played in the premier league before and 1 who is under an injury cloud. I dont question risk taking, but i question in this case, the amount of risks you've taken, as the chances they will all pay off are very low.

              You could go with a Wolves player.

              They're a good team who have really strengthened with Johnson. Their home fixtures are good, too:

              FUL TOT QPR NEW SWA WIG SUN up to GW 14, with away trips to Villa and Blackburn in weeks 1 & 3, where you could potentially back them to do well.

              I'd already decided to go with Rooney instead, but it's a weight off my mind if he's not threatening to score a hat trick for everyone else's team.

              Still, don't wish injury on him, especially for a player who's had so many problems.

                I'm going Rooney and Aguero. Have 1m spare to get RVP in GW4 but by then he would have increased in price, I'm sure of it. Would be nice for him to get injured.

                Even better, he doesn't get flagged and goes down in price 🙂 That really is wishful thinking though

                    Nice! I did have one team with RVP, Rooney and AGuero but really didn't like the rest of my team 🙂

                    I'm currently on Rooney, Aguero and A.Johnson / 5.5m striker. Waiting to see how much DJ is.

            Personally not liking Dempsey so much this year as Fulham seem to have plenty of options up top so don't see him playing off main striker so much this year and at his price it's just too much for me

                  Sessegnon will play just behind Gyan. The big pull for me to Sessegnon last season was that Gyan was out so he was on pens. But I still think he's worth the risk basically playing in a 2 man strikeforce as an oop
