Torres Doubt For Stoke Clash

Fernando Torres is an early doubt for Chelsea’s weekend trip to Stoke after reportedly suffering concussion whilst playing for Spain this evening.

The striker lined up for the Spanish against Italy in tonight’s friendly but lasted just 14 minutes before being forced off with a head injury.

Medical staff are expected to examine Torres before offering a further assessment. Already they are insisting that his withdrawal was purely a precaution.

However, if Torres has suffered concussion, he would seem likely to be forced to sit out of the trip to Britannia.

There are already doubts over Andre Villas-Boas’ team selection for Sunday’s game with Torres unable to take his opportunity to impress in the pre-season. Didier Drogba’s physical presence against Tony Pulis’ muscular outfit may well have been preferred regardless of the availability of the £50 million Spaniard.

Drogba was also in action tonight, scoring his 50th international goal via a penalty in Ivory Coast’s 4-3 victory against Israel in Geneva.

Torres is currently owned by over 88,000 Fantasy Premier League managers – Drogba currently claims almost double that figure.

    Camzy, can you give me your opinion about putting Benayoun in my squad for the first GW, just as a potential suprisse (I already have Malouda) or shall I stick with N zog?? Thanks

      Not Camzy, but imo stick with N'Zog. You already have Malouda for Chelsea cover and he's more likely than Benayoun to start every game.

          Still a risk I think but could pay off if he does indeed start. I still think N'Zog is a better option. Will be on most set pieces most likely and more of a threat imo

            You know what is main problem, cause I have that idea for several days, and if I change that and Benayoun do some damage, it will persecute me until and of season.

              Remember that Benayoung is what 7.0m (off top of head) and Sessegnon is 6.5m. Is it worth already planning out a transfer on a player that only uses 2.0m of your 'disposable wage' (Since the cheapest 5 mids are 4.5).
              The reason why so many people WC early is that over the summer things change and we can't accurately predict what will happen this season. So do you really want to plan out one of your transfers that could be used to bring in a player that was underestimated before the season?

    What do you guys think?
    I would really love to get nzog in, but that can be only if I lose cole, rooney or silva.

    Tinkering...
    cole + moses => lescott + dyer and then sinclair to nzog
    or maybe
    rooney => drog and sinclair to nzog
    and finally
    silva to nzog and then next week carroll to drogba/torres

    What do you guys think, any of those worth it?
    Any fresh ideas welcome!!

      I have the same team!!!!! And here what I am gonna do.
      Who you are plaining to bench for first GW? Sinclair? And for second? Everybody else have similar fixtures like in the first, so maybe again him. So, I am doind next, Put N Zog instead Sessegnon, and swap Sinclair for cheaper, Dyer, and put HIM on the bench for first, and maybe for second also.

      Not entirely, leaves you with a lot of room to upgrade the rest of your squad. Statistically based on last seasons performance, strikers are overpriced on average. Could certainly be worth your time sharing the wealth in other regions 😉

      Rotating keepers such as Foster/Mignolet got 20 CS last season compared to Hart/4.0m keeper who got 17 CS between them
      Therefore I'd advocate for Given over Hart in either case

      Then the difference really is between Zogs/Drogba + 2.0m or Malouda/Bent. I'd say Malouda/Bent are a great option and both have viable alternatives at the same pricing should it not work out.
      Question is the rest of the squad really and how far 2.0m more could go

      Definitely the 2nd option. Get N'Zogbia for Villa coverage though over Bent and get Carroll instead of Bent.

        Hey. Thanks for the feedback guys.

        Not too big on Bent too, and already have Carroll. Didn't see the need for the 2.0 so I chucked it on Hart (already have Nani, Silva) but I guess its the wrong way of balancing the teams.

        Will go back to Malouda/Bent then. Cheers guys.

      Strong forwards, but I'm not sure that pts per pound that's worth it, and your defence is too cheap for my liking. having said that it's a decent looking squad (my own reservations about silva aside).

        Jip. I had Sinclair and Kompany since FPL opened, but dumped them this morning and reworked the defence to get Drogba in.

        Still not comfortable with it though. Last year I "Knew" all about Adam before the season started and never picked him at the beginning. Hope I'm not regretting dumping Sinclair...

        If Enrique does not go I will get a 4.5m defender(Alcaraz?) and upgrade Alhibabi to Given and play him week in week out(Bear in mind I'm WC after gw 3)

        Rotation between SUN/NEW and WIGAN/Wolves are good for first 3 weeks. Not that they are screaming CS though.

    Strikers are a bit weak, but the plan is to downgrade one of the big 3 midfielders and Rodallega for RVP and a cheaper midfielder by GW4...

      Don't like Rodallega. Downgrade Lescott to Kompany and get Zamora upfront if you're going that route.

      It'll look like one of my earlier drafts if that's the case.

      Looks pretty good except the double up on Wigan, only 3 good games in them and then I would think you'd like both out. Maybe pick one and look for an alternative to save the transfers @ GW3?

      Why N Taylor? Was a prospect but not as nailed on as other Newc options such as Simpson, Williamson, S Taylor when I looked

      Rodallega to RVP will cost 5.5m, So with Malouda (your most expensive mid) you go down to 5m or 4.5m with the other 2, are you sure there is 4.5-5.0m that you would want to go down too?

        I agree Rodders is a big gamble - his selfishness and fixtures are the appeal there. I think Lescott is worth the extra 0.5m at least until Toure is back, big danger at set pieces.

          Cheers! Well there aren't many decent 4.5/5mill midfielders. Previously had nathan dyer but now has competition with routledge so not much i can do there. Noticed Surman likes to bomb forward, can play on either wing and the day i put him in scored a brace. Norwich have some nice fixtures to start with too altho i anticipate hoolahan and holt to hoover a lot of them up.

        Yes i can swap de laet for bramble and holt was my original choice. De laet will score goals and johnson has been red hot which is the only reason for my doubt. Surman is decent.

        As for the nani factor, he will be rotated with young and valencia. I know he will start GW1 but we have no idea if he will start GW2 and there lies the problem. I'm more worried about not having drogba in my team if i'm honest

      Doubt it. He's over the hill imo and a hinderance to villa's defence. They should bench him and let clark & collins build a partnership, or even better they should have kept cuellar and sold dunne.

        After GW3 is appealing as we should know the starting 11s and which of the new players are worth having by then. Also a 2 week break to make the most of the price rises. Saying that, i'll hold off if my team looks decent enough.

        I figure Man City should be as good for clean sheets as Chelsea over the first few games, plus Lescott is 1m cheaper than Cole and offers as much of a goal threat imo.

        Could do with some Chelsea cover though, as will only have 1 of the attackers in GW2...(probably Silva -> Malouda)

        Whats the big problem with expensive defenders if you have ones which will be highly likely to get you consistent points- and they, of course, should be then backed up by other cheapies who rotate well. Isn't it the best way into a 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 to maximise the potential for BP's which it would appear are going to really favour forward thinking players this year?

        Defenders - total spend is 24.5m which works out at less than 5m per player - i.e. not expensive.

        Given and Ruddy have a great rotation rating. I'd prefer Given + Foster but that gave me an extra 1M to play with. Who would you rather up front?

        As for Enrique, there was an article that he supposedly agreed to Liverpool's terms:

          Your not so that means you are burning 4 million with a player doing nothing. If you get Bergovic, you have perfect rotation with Given, great home form and affordable prices.

            Fair enough. I plan on using Given like I did with Foster last season aka play him almost every week but at least they rotate nicely for the odd time that I'd want to avoid a fixture. Good tip re: Begovic but if I were to get a 5M keeper it would probably be Foster.

                Good look! Kenny doesnt announce anything. Last year for 3/4 weeks i waited to hear about carroll. Every week he would say he's getting there n never play him. Frustrating

    A lot of people getting carried away with Nani me thinks. The Hawthorns will be a difficult place to go. Woy tends to start with defence first and this should be no exception. Nani played excellently against light blue cash but will he start GW2 or 3?

    Too much of a gamble unless you plan on taking your WC in GW2 in my opinion.

      I do think he has been in ronaldos shadow for too long. IF Snieder come then he will be in another shadow. Its time for him to prove himself and i think he knows that. He does have a large bandwagon going but i feel confident in him.

        Looking at him or O'Hara, wondering whether Fletcher might provide more bang for (almost) the same buck. His career goal-scoring record is something like a goal every 3.5 games, which is pretty sweet.

        I dont know, I assume so, he was a rock for them when fit, Has come on as sub pre-season it seems...4.5 could be a bargain. Wolves not bad at the back at home and those goals!

    anyone want to throw our a name to replace tiote? i went back and forth on how to handle my 5th mid. No one under 6m seems worth investing in, and once i get wingie in as my 3rd striker, i plan on always playing all 3 forwards. Just dont know if its worth the extra 1.5 to upgrade there when I like the team otherwise.

      I dont like Silva for the money myself, but rest is fine, decent balance, although cant help on Tiote replacement! I would be tempted to do Silva-Ramsey and spread the cash, but thats just me

        yeah jury still out on silva as fantasy commodity. Definitely want to trot him out there week 1 home to swans on Monday night, and if he doesnt provide returns, the move for nzogbia is already prepared.

            yeah id like to squeeze .5 from somewhere but i always opt for attack. Habsi could well be in the bonus for wigan wins and has shown he gets save points. wigan fixtures as good as you can ask for to start, a little time to plan a switch if needed.
