Fernando Torres is an early doubt for Chelsea’s weekend trip to Stoke after reportedly suffering concussion whilst playing for Spain this evening.

The striker lined up for the Spanish against Italy in tonight’s friendly but lasted just 14 minutes before being forced off with a head injury.

Medical staff are expected to examine Torres before offering a further assessment. Already they are insisting that his withdrawal was purely a precaution.

However, if Torres has suffered concussion, he would seem likely to be forced to sit out of the trip to Britannia.

There are already doubts over Andre Villas-Boas’ team selection for Sunday’s game with Torres unable to take his opportunity to impress in the pre-season. Didier Drogba’s physical presence against Tony Pulis’ muscular outfit may well have been preferred regardless of the availability of the £50 million Spaniard.

Drogba was also in action tonight, scoring his 50th international goal via a penalty in Ivory Coast’s 4-3 victory against Israel in Geneva.

Torres is currently owned by over 88,000 Fantasy Premier League managers – Drogba currently claims almost double that figure.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Given Kenny
    Kompany Hughes Alcaraz Simpson Bramble
    Nani Moses Silva Taarbt Nzogbia
    Drogs Holt Rvp
Somany ideas in my head atm. I'm considering looking at replacements for Holt and Taarbt. I#m also considering brining in Lampard. Another idea is to find .5m from somewhere and to upgrade Nani to Malouda GW2. All a bit up in the air atm.
    Thoughts/suggestions?
    Thanks 🙂

I know how you feel, what with being up in the air and all!

Don't get rid of Holt. I think thats a good team personally, Defence is a bit weak, but you got rotators in there I guess, your starting attacking line is looking a lot like what mine is going to be.

Taraabt isn't worth the money IMO, perhaps Tchoyi, check out my midfielders article 😉

That will give you the funds for Malouda GW2.

P.S: Can we introduce it to them now? Please? Pretty please?

It took me a while to come to my senses over Baines. A rotational defence and a strong attack is the way forward. 🙂

I'm justifying it to myself as "he's like a midfielder who gets extra points for clean sheets and goals"... I actually think he is probably worth it, he's essentially an attacking player. However when you look at your team, it looks bad.

          At the moment I have:

          Schwarzer-Mignolet
Baines - Lescott - De Laet - Orr - Rangel
          Silva - Downing - N'Zogbia - O'Hara - Moses
          Drogba - Carroll - Holt

1m in the bank for Lescott->Cole. Which isn't actually that bad. I think what kills me looking at your team is Drogba and RVP up front...

You could get RVP by downgrading Downing to someone who's 6.5 or less. Plenty of options, although then you'd be replacing Carroll as well and go from two Pool to none.

HOdge.......Good team, no weakness, if RVP starts. Lots of flexibility. (I don't know Kenny). The only possible improvement would be another 4.0 D and save the .5 for changes in GW2, when everyone's team turns brown. Go get 'em.

    Lads,

Is it better to have a fantastic 11 with a poor bench and make sure you stay on top of all the latest injury news or a assemble a decent squad of 15 players?

Squad. Better to have a few options you can rotate than three players you're basically just wasting money on. Keeping on top of injuries is one thing but sometimes circumstances included injuries/suspensions/missed fixtures etc will conspire to the point where you'll be struggling to piece together an eleven. Nothing wrong with having a fairly weak bench if you want to spend elsewhere, just make sure they're at least regular starters with a bit of potential.

From previous seasons i think your bench players need to be half decent especially now with all the rotation happening. I try to go with a balanced team throughout.

Either tactic can be effective. I prefer to rotate to stay on top of fixtures. E.g. I'd go with 3 rotating mid price attackers rather than 2 starters and a cheapie for the bench.
Budget restrictions mean you'll have to find a couple dirt cheap gems to be able to afford the top players you want though.
There is no right way imo

Right lads. Got today before I go to bed so about half hour, to really concentrate on my team.

    Currently I stand at.

    Given Kenny
    Enrique Kompany Baines Bramble S.Taylor
    Tchoyi Moses Hoolahan N'Zogbia Silva
    Holt RVP Rooney

I now want Drogba, perhaps get rid of Rooney for him, and then upgrade Silva to Nani, but then I lose City coverage, and I don't really want Nani, basically, I want RVP and Rooney, and Drogba, I'll go have a play around.

Don't think it's possible to get those three with Baines in the side without murdering the midfield. If you swapped him for a 4.0, played Enrique/Kompany every week and rotated the others, the 4.0 could be strictly backup. Then shave 0.5 elsewhere, potentially Kenny to Ruddy.

That's the quickest route I can see that keeps a couple of big hitters in midfield.

Same strike force as me nearly, I got AJ instead of Holt. Is Tchoyi even a starter anymore with the arrival of Long and Gera? Solid team otherwise, I don't like Silva FPL wise but I can see the appeal.

Are Long and Gera both at WBA then? Haven't kept up with it at all the past few days. I've downgraded RVP to Drogba (Pfft, a downgrade, hardly.) And then upgraded Tchoyi to Ramsey, now have 0.5 in the bank. Team sorted... Now who to give the armband.

There's loads of fpl blogs out there that just regurgitate things that are common knowledge amongst football fans. Or even worse don't do their research and post false information and claim it as fact. Im not suggesting Greg & hodge put together a blog to rival ffs, the scouts have built this over years and put in massive amounts of time & effort. But if they're going to put this out there for like minded FF fans I'm sure they can offer more substance & insight which would in turn make it more rewarding & enjoyable for them.

well I genuinely admire their enterprise and genuinely wish them luck and despite my harsh posts i'm trying to be useful

spending weeks learning lots about the players and lots about fpl will be way more useful than churning out limp articles...you need to be an expert (like Mark) before you can hope to succeeed

and I am certainly correct about Drogba (whoever said that) unless you somehow think Torres will be a 15 minute sub all season or that they'll start playing 4-4-2...he is expensive and will be rotated...so it's highly probable he'll be poor value

                    (laughs manically)

OK I read all 3 fpl articles:

                    (a) there are a fair few sensible suggestions
                    (b) there are several pieces of nonsense
                    (c) regular readers of this site will learn nothing from those articles...(TEST:Jonny, you like them but what did you learn about fpl?)

It's a good read boys... another one to add to the list of articles to read whilst at work!

I get the impression some of the articles were written a while ago: "As long as Shane Long doesn’t move to West Brom, I think Tchoyi will be one of the picks of the season" is a wee bit redundant now, for example!

The Championship article is interesting... as a Leeds fan I hope your prediction that they'll be challenging for automatic promotion is accurate!

New and improved team lads, thanks for your feedback and it has helped. 🙂

    Team is now.

    Given (Kenny)
    Agger Kompany Baines (Bramble Simpson)
    Moses N'Zogbia Hoolahan Silva Ramsey
    Holt Drogba Rooney

    Boom.

Ok, a bloomin' expensive defence, but Baines and Agger rotate perfectly, as do Simpson and Bramble, so whenever City are at home I have 3 starting home defenders. Who to bench from the front 8 GW 1 though? Loool, and I think I'll (C) Rooney.

I doubt I'll bench him much, but when say he plays the big four away, where they are almost guaranteed to concede, I can play Agger instead. And Agger is a good option in himself anyways. Admittedly I'll play the expensive 3 as the defence most weeks.

Having an expensive defense is all well and good, but it kind of limits your captain options. It'd be nice to have a different structure to the masses though, could pay dividends for you.

Yeaa, the thing is, I like it like that for some reason.

I have cover from the top 4, 3 of them being the best players IMO from their teams, and an up and coming talent in Ramsey. Holt and Hoolahan may be a bit too much though? Just can't choose between them, Moses is a good option, and N'Zogbia to me is also a (C) option.

      Thoughts on your team:

      Samba a doubt?

Benayoun and Welbeck a gamble to start? look elsewhere to replace.

Swap Figueroa for another def as no point doubling on Wigan defence.

Overall a balanced team, but only really 2 captain choices after GW1.

It might be because Roy Hodgson is their manager. He did pretty well with Fulham at home in the league against Man U. After his 1st season with a struggling side his record at home was:
          2:0 Fulham 08/09
          3:0 Fulham 09/10
          2:2 Tie 10/11.

Not a bad record. With a different team now though.

Hey guys first ever post or RMT so here goes(any input much appreciated):

    Given (Ruddy)
    Cashley, Kompany, Simpson/Bramble/Gabbidon (all rotated)
Silva, Malouda, Nzogbia, Moses,(Fergusen bench fodder)
Rooney, Carroll, Roddallega(first 3 wks anyway)

I know that fergusen isnt worth a w@nk but very tempted with all the coverage I got and then use back 3 rotational and at worst play 2 of them if get caught out in midfield ie injuries etc..is it really that bad to have a muck 5th mid sub??

I wouldn't have both Rodallega and Moses. If it was me I'd downgrade Rodallega and upgrade Ferguson. There is no such thing as bench fodder in this game. Have a strong 15 man squad going into the season when you can make as many transfers as you want or you'll regret it later.

Of all the top expensive players he looks the most likely to hit huge scores in the 1st couple weeks. The only one with real form to go off after carving up city, seems inspired by the competition for places and SAF has given him big praise for his form, ability & hunger as well as an assurance that he's earned a starting position.
He'll probably go off the boil and start seeing bench duty at some point but i don't plan on having him more than a couple weeks.
