Jose Enrique is set for a move to Liverpool this morning. The Cesc Fabregas saga is almost over and Samir Nasri is also on the verge of an Emirates exit. Frank Lampard recovers from a throat infection ahead of the season opener at Stoke while Fernando Torres’ concussion places question marks against his availability. Steve Bruce eyes up the Spurs squad and Alex McLeish hints at a role for Emile Heskey. Here’s the Scribbles for today, folks:

It seems Cesc Fabregas’s move to Barcelona is near completion. The La Liga champions’ two-year chase for the playmaker’s services could be tied up as early as this weekend, with Fabregas’ willingness to redirect a portion of his earnings Arsenal’s way reportedly proving key to the £40m transfer. Aaron Ramsey has looked more than capable as a replacement over the close season and – at 6.5 in FPL (Fantasy Premier League) – Fantasy managers will have their fingers crossed that Arsene Wenger allows the young Welshman the chance to nail down the role as his own.

With Samir Nasri’s move to Man City also on the cards, the Gunners boss will have plenty money to spend before the end of August and reports this morning suggest Wenger has made a move for Birmingham’s Scott Dann as he looks to address a weakness as centre-half.

Jose Enrique looks set for a move to Liverpool. With the left-back having just a year left on his contract, reports indicate the clubs have this morning agreed a fee for his services and a deal could be completed as early as today.

Frank Lampard looks likely to play this weekend, having recovered from a throat infection. The illness had caused him to withdraw from the England squad against Holland earlier in the week but a return to training yesterday suggests he’s well on the road to recovery ahead of Sunday’s trip to the Britannia.

Chelsea will be fretting over the availability of Fernando Torres after the striker was taken to hospital with concussion last night. The forward was withdrawn after just 15 minutes in Spain’s 2-1 defeat to Italy and the club should find out today whether he’ll be available for the weekend. If Torres is sidelined, it promotes Didier Drogba into our Fantasy thinking, with the big Ivorian leading the line for Andre Villas-Boas’ team at Stoke.

Despite an impressive pre-season, it appears Yossi Benayoun is still surplus to requirement at Stamford Bridge. Reports today suggest the Israeli could be used as a makeweight in Chelsea’s bid for Luka Modric, though Newcastle are also believed to be waiting in the wings as Alan Pardew continues to restructure his first-team squad.

Steve Bruce seems to have been bitten by the transfer bug. Ten players have already made their way to Sunderland this close season but the Black Cats boss has confirmed he’s eyeing up a loan swoop for Tottenham’s Niko Krancjar.

Lucas has declared himself fit and ready to start for Liverpool this weekend. Despite his participation in last month’s Copa America, the Brazilian is desperate to play against Sunderland, saying:

I’m fit. I didn’t have a full holiday and was training with the national team, so it won’t be a problem for me to be available for Saturday. I am really excited to be back and really looking forward to the new season. We’re in a good mood at the moment and hopefully we’ll start well on Saturday.

Alex McLeish has confirmed Emile Heskey has a role to play for Aston Villa this season. The forward is in the final year of his contract but Big Eck reckons his experience could be valuable over the upcoming months for the Midlands club.

“Discarding his kind of knowledge and his skills would be crazy. I have to tap into a guy like that. I have to use him to the full. There is no guarantee that Emile will play every week – but he has certainly impressed me.”

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Jesus, I can't keep up with the cricket. I know when someone's out, and I know the scoring, wut then I read something like:

"Kumar is a maiden machine. Trundle it may be , but it's trundle that neither opener wants anything to do with."

    Or

Batting a good pace out of his crease to these 120kph dobblers, attempting to negate the swing but in no way fearful of being undone by pace.

And my brain just doesn't recognise it as an English sentence.

Well maiden machine means he keeps bowling overs without England getting runs. Not sure what they mean by trundle but I guess whatever he's bowling the batters don't like 🙂

Not sure what a dobbler is 😛

So, now that we know the Tottenham Vs Everton game has been postponed,

what does everyone plan to do with
their players? I'm in two minds....

With most people likely to drop them, I'm wondering if the sensible thing to do is to put them in anyway.Reason being, as everyone rushes to put them in during GW2/GW3 their prices will probably rise artifically without being a week 1 wonder as they will start from a base of lets say 0 to ,000's very quickly.

For example I can see VDV rising to 10.1 / 10.2 before he has even kicked a ball this season. However, getting off to a good start is important and a 10m VDV on the
bench for GM1 is a risk, especially with the amount of unknowns around other starting line-ups. Thoughts are the same with all players that end up with games
    postponed......what are your plans?

    given kenny
cheap and rotate well (given is especially good value)

    cole kompany briggs bramble simpson
two solid expensive picks and three cheapies. have briggs as riise is injured.

    nani silva nzogbia ramsey moses
happy with mids, nani and silva are studs, nzogs has good fixtures, moses is on fire and ramsey should do well without fab and nasri and wilshere injured

    drogba carroll dj
torres injury cloud makes drogs a good pick, hope he starts like last year. carroll should be in top form and with suarez out, could be good. dj, has good fixtures and has proven himself in pl last year

      Very solid with good reasoning.

For me though, the best Chelsea attacker to get is Malouda. Go from there. Briggs is a risk. He might play 1 week, but after that, he'll be out of the starting XI, and from 4.0 cheapies, you want reliability so you can play them and forget.

I'm not sure on Ramsey. At 6.5 I think Sessegnon is a safer, better choice as an OoP player. You're getting Ramsey because you want Arsenal cover, but there's really no guarantee he'll get the pivotal role so many on here think he will.

The ones that I don't have are Kompany/Briggs/N'Zogbia/Carroll in part because I prefer Bent to Carroll and partly because I have put more in defense so can't afford N'Zogbia (place currently occupied by Sinclair)

Any better suggestions for a 5.5 defender? Id preferable like a top 4 team starting defender in my first 11 hence hedging my bets with Rafael. Difficult to know who'll start between himself and smalling after smalling's performance at Wembley. Alternatively could look at Cahill (away to QPR)? Samba (Home to Wolves)?

Seen that and all those goals are typical for a player who does well in the Championship but will be poor in the Premiership.

Good team, but defence is a bit weak. Play Hughes ahead of Bardsley.

Of course your midfield and attack is strong. RVP's probably the only Arsenal player who would presently make my team, but personally I'd downgrade him to Drogba (who should get full game time with Torres being conked on the head). Then use the 1.5 to bolster defence.

Agree with later move for Odem. Based on the PPI from last year, he's head and shoulders above his teamates for bonus point potential this season. In the meantime I'm going for Rodallega, which, possibly like you, is a bit gash when you've got Moses in midfield (and in your case, Alcaraz too)- however, I think their first 3 games justifies their inclusion.

Cool. Aguero I think it's best to wait for him to start to play. Bent will be great from GW2. Rooney - I feel the same way about him as you do about Drogba.

Alright final piece of the puzzle here. Need some guidance.
Looking at the first 8gw's I'm weighing up Enrique with Neil Taylor covering gw2 & 5
    vs S.Taylor with bramble covering gw2 & 5.

My usual priority with defenders is first have my whole backline each week with good chance of cs, secondly they need attacking potential. CS's the priority though.
In the last couple seasons this tactic has backfired more than it used to. I'd get good value, mid price defenders from the top clubs for cs potential + the odd goal/assist only to see slightly cheaper players from weaker clubs like huth, bardsley (never owned either), cahill etc. pull goals galore out of their arses and hit double figure scores.

So usually I'd take enrique's better cs odds and a decent attacking threat over Taylor's better goal threat

🙂 Just wanted to make sure I got the right one.

I'd go with Enrique and Neil Taylor then. You'll be in trouble the first gameweek as I guess Enrique won't be ready to play but after that he'll have BIG Andy Carroll to aim for all season long.

I know what you mean with a Newcastle def but there is a big risk they struggle at least initially imo. I'm getting Simpson at 4m myself as a cheap way in incase they do well.

Cheers garg. My other 4.0 defender can cover gw1 if I go the Enrique route. So you think the cs/assists will outweigh Taylor's goals + the odd cleanie?
Only 2nd guessing myself because the way this type of decision typically goes last couple seasons is Liverpool leak a goal despite dominating then Taylor spits in my face with goals galore ala huth 😛
Play the odds though you reckon?

I kind of agree but you could also say that if there is a problem with their pre-season not getting the players fit enough for the start of the season but as a tradeoff getting a great level of fitness for the latter parts of the season it might be the case that a) Moyes will still go by it and fail to improve first part of the season or b) like it that way.

I see your point, but if you want to get Baines in GW2 but have someone else in GW1 you can actually choose ANY defender at any price and keep enough money in the bank. I'm not sure Cole is the best defender to have in GW1, Stoke are tough at home.
But anyway, I don't think wasting a transfer on a defender after GW1 is a good idea, easier to have Baines on the bench and play a cheapie with a good fixture in GW1, and save a transfer (think of it as of 4 points to take a hit)...

      Lots on the first team...
The sub's bench isn't great (Do they all play every game???)....
What if you get an injury or suspension... you could be looking at 4 point hits!!

Doubling up on City defenders is a bit much for me... Did you see them in the Charity Shield??

Looking at a one week punt on Rosicky or Ramseyand then bring in Sinclair next week. Problem is, then i'd have to bench one of: Nani, Malouda, Taarabt Ramsey/Rosicky, Moses, Rooney Dzeko, Holt. All have good fixtures.

Taarabt and Moses are the likely candidates.

Home to Bolton and Home to Norwich, i can't bench them. The smart thing to do would be to just keep Sinclair and bench him. But being and Arsenal fan, i want some coverage 😀

Not getting the addiction to Kompany. Looks good on paper, but why should his def record improve from last year? and last year he didnt score too well, not to justify 6 mil...

He was listed as a midfielder last season and got 1 point per clean sheet instead of 4 as he will this season.

He was rated as a midfielder last season, therefore missed out on alot of C/S points! He's a no brainer I think!

He's possibly the best value player available at the moment.

Long term I agree, but for the first few I'm less sure. 0.5 more for Lescott who gets forward.

I've done just that. Toure's banned for the first 3 weeks and I doubt he'll kick Lescott out of teh squad the instant he gets back.

I was thinking the same thing a couple of weeks ago when I was looking at the results from last season. I thought how could he only get 95 points from 18 clean sheets?! When I clocked it I thought I was the f**king nuts. Then I looked at number of people who'd brought him in, and realised there were 300,000 other people who were the f**king nuts ðŸ™

He was the first name on my team sheet but over the past week ive convinced myself to take a punt on Micah Richards instead for a bit more threat going forward (will pick up the odd assist and always seems to be lurking at set pieces - when Lescott isnt getting in the way)

It's getting to that stage now when I'm loathe to take out certain players from my team because you just bloody know they'll be the one's that score. Mr Bent being a prime example. You just know he'll score a brace at Fulham (if it goes ahead).

Well, yes. I'd got silly notions about bringing him in GW2, but you're probably right.

The question for me is will he score better than Carroll GW1?

Same. I have Carroll for GW1, then transfered for Bent for GW2.
