It’s a short, sharp Scribbles we offer this morning as the tension ramps up ahead of tomorrow’s big kick-off. Aston Villa hope to bring back on old face in Thomas Hitzlsperger, while Roy Hodgson believes in Owen Hargreaves’ fitness. Alan Pardew offers an olive branch to Joey Barton and Tony Pulis is looking for six new players as Stoke square up to Europe. Here we go, folks:

Jose Enrique is set to sign a four-year deal with Liverpool today. Kenny Dalglish’s search for a left-back looks to now be over and with one year left on his Newcastle contract, Enrique’s transfer is thought to be around the region of £6m. More importantly, as far as Fantasy managers are concerned, Enrique is priced at just 5.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and can be expected to see plenty investment on the back of this move.

Alex McLeish has been linked with a move for Thomas Hitzlsperger. The Villa boss admitted yesterday he would need to trade players before making any further acquisitions but with the German available on a free, a return to Villa Park may not be out of the question. As Big Eck went on to say:

“Thomas’ name has been mentioned against a number of other players. If it came to a choice, we’d have to think about everything if we were able to get that choice. Maybe in midfield, in terms of experience, we are a little bit lacking.”

Roy Hodgson has offered Owen Hargreaves a contract at West Brom. The ex-Man United midfielder has seemingly proved his fitness to the Baggies boss and is now mulling over a move to the Hawthorns. Hodgson’s take on the situation is:

Look, we’ve done the test, we agree with you that the knee’s OK and you can play football. And of course if you’d like to come and play for us that would be lovely. But whether or not our offer is going to be interesting to him, that’s what I don’t know.

Stoke are in the market for six new signings, according to Tony Pulis . Speaking this morning, the Potters boss admitted he was looking to strengthen the club’s options up front before the end of August. With a bid in for Peter Crouch as well as Spurs team mate Wilson Palacios, it looks like being a busy three weeks ahead on the transfer front.

Both Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri won’t feature tomorrow for Arsenal. The duo were left out of Arsenal’s squad for the trip to Newcastle by Arsene Wenger and their respective exits from the Emirates are edging closer by the day.

It looks like Joey Barton may still have a part to play at Newcastle, after all. Only a week or so ago, there seemed no way back for the midfielder after the twitter debacle that saw him criticise the club, but Alan Pardew is willing to offer him a chance if Barton can prove he’s willing to give his all:

Joey will determine whether he stays. I’ve told Joey that he won’t play for me and I won’t include him unless I think he’s pulling for us. If Joey turns around to me and says that’s what he’s going to do, then he will. He’s in the process of weighing up what he needs to do.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Anyone not going with Silva? I just can't get excited about him, class player but never scores into double figures, at 9.5 I just think he is a little too much fantasy wise.

Just had a look at Silva's history from last season. Wow- didn't realise he was that good! Are all these people who are saying he doesn't score well fantasy-wise etc etc well-informed? That points total is great considering he only really came into form towards the end of the season and does so much better without Tevez in the side..

Cheap defenders: is anyone considering having 3 cheap defenders out of the 5 (e.g. Simpson, de Laet and Orr) to release cash elsewhere?

The idea being that you would play 2 strong defenders plus 1 of the cheap ones (rotating dependent on opposition etc.).

Would the rewards elsewhere offset the risk?

I'm thinking you'd probably end up rotating between Simpson and a QPR defender depending on who was playing at home (& only ever play a Swansea/Norwich defender on an emergency basis). The expectation would be 1 or 2 points, but every now and then they'd get a CS or something extra.

That's my standard approach too, but was thinking if my mid-price option is a risk of only ever getting 1 or 2 points, what have a got to loss by downgrading to a 3rd 4.0 player and getting much the same returns.

and I'm not fancing any "typical" midfilders because of rotation and splitting points.. i'm trying to bet on fk and pens takers...

You don't think Baines' price may rise ahead of the next gameweek?
It seems now some people have got rid of him hearing the news his first game has been cancelled.
But they may start coming back to him in the course of next week, which may cause his price to go up rapidly...
          Ideas?
I'll keep him on the bench anyway and enjoy watching his price tag soar.

I really really really need to win the league now. Please RMT:

    Al Habsi / Ruddy

    A. Cole / Kompany / Orr / De Laet / S. Taylor

    N’Zogbia / Malouda / Silva / Taraabt / Moses

    Drogba / Carroll / Holt

Got 1M in the bank. Ready to transfer Carroll for Suarez (when fit) and Silva for Downing to have more money.

    Please advice 🙂

I like your team why no confidense in it? There r few risk but its generic team after all. Pick your captain and go for it.

Good luck to all in the new season. Don't knee jerk to often and always pay attention to your captaincy decision. That is most important IMO.

And one question: GW 1 only against that Stoke defense which one is better bet Lamps or Malouda and why?

    Cheers,

      Malouda, cheaper and more attacking.

Good luck to you too mate. In answer to your question I haven't got a clue but I'm going with Malouda.

I think Malouda is gonna have problems against Stoke. He will get fouled a lot and his deliveries in the box r usually headed home, part of the game where Stoke are excellent, so I am leaning Lamps, but I am speaking GW 1 only. Nobody thinking Lamps?

Gahhhhh, it's the same every season. I have a lovely, well-balanced team right up til the Friday before kick-off, sensible proportions spent on defence, midfield and attack. Nice rotation at the back, 2 or 3 good captain choices, nothing too risky.

Then I completely butcher the defence cos I really need to squeeze in RVP / Rooney / Drogba / Malouda / Silva / Nani*

    Arrrrrgggggghhhhhhhh!

I just checked up the 'Team news' section and Sunderland defence reads - Bardsley, Brown, Ferdinand and Richardson. What about Bramble?

Wow busy here today... must be getting close 🙂

    I'll try one more time.

Anyone heard the latest with Riise? Rated as only 50% in injury news?

Also I’m seriously considering planning my wildcard for GW2…. Seems ridiculous… Buts there’s about 6-7 players I would want different from GW1 to GW2… Genious or suicide??

    Ramsey + Nani

    or

    Sinclair + Malouda

considering I've got Drogba; also unsure whether to start either of those midfielders ahead of Moses?

    Cheers!
