The first major team news going into the weekend comes from the Arsenal camp with Arsene Wenger confirming that Robin Van Persie should be amongst a string of players available for Saturday’s trip to Newcastle.

The Dutchman was a slight doubt going into the weekend having suffered a knock in the first half of the friendly with Benfica. Wenger has however offered us reassurance that the striker should figure at St James’ Park…

“From the players who played in the last game, everyone should be available.”

There’s more positive news on both Thomas Vermaelen, who was nursing a back complaint and Theo Walcott who has returned to training ahead of schedule following an ankle problem. Kieran Gibbs is also thought to be available and will likely claim the left-back berth.

With Aaron Ramsey and Andrei Arshavin both also given a clean bill of health, Arsenal’s resources look plentiful enough even without both Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri who remain unlikely to figure. The Gunners will also be without both Jack Wilshere and Abou Diaby in midfield.

Van Persie’s availability could now cause a shuffle within our Fantasy squads. Despite a testing opening three Gameweeks, Arsenal appear to have a run of fixtures during the first-half of the season which should hand the Dutchtman opportunity to flourish. The recent squad upheaval and the continuing doubts over Van Persie’s durability will be a concern but, even so, the Dutchman is currently owned by over 140,000 Fantasy Premier League managers – a figure which could be set to rise as the day progresses.

This early team news from the Emirates has been collated in our Team News section – keep popping back there for all the updates as today unfolds.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Afternoon lads.. been a while since my last RMT. Bit last minute tinkering.. tear apart at your pleasure 🙂

    Given (Moreira)
Orr - Hughes - Kompany (Simpson, De Laet)
Nani - Moses - Nzogbia - Silva (Sinclair)
Holt - Rooney (VC)- RVP (C)

Obviously a bit weaker defence - Thinking of downgrading Sinclair to beef up one of the 4.0's (I have 3 lol)

I know people say it every year and it turns out to be guff BUT....

I think Arse are going to drop out of the CL places this year and won't score as many goals. Losing Cesc and quite possibly Nasri is a huge blow to the creativity in their team.

I like Wilshere and Ramsey but they are not at the level of the other two.

Fancy Utd to bang in plenty this year and Mr Rooney is going to have a hand in most of them. (Warning: I'm a big Utd fan)

Too true on the Newc defense 🙂

West Brom only kept something like 2 clean sheets at home last season though. Could both be big scoring matches. it's a toughie

I'm a Utd fan and a big fan of nani (had him last year and he scored big) but I just can't justify his inclusion. He'll start against West Brom for sure which is great.

But anyone who watches Utd regularly will know that SAF prefers 'workers' against the big teams. People like Valencia, Park, Giggs (and even Young a bit) track back as well as help out in attack. Nani never does which makes him very 'droppable' to Fergie.

So looking at Utds early fixtures, he could sit out games against Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool & City in the first 9 gameweeks. Even worse he will probably come on for 10-15mins and get you a point. If you've captained him too its a disaster waiting to happen.

Can anyone explain why they have took the risk?

chelsea have a new manager so we dont know what formation he is going to play, which may not favour malouda.

the back end of last season he did not justify the 10m+ price tag, and compared to nani who he is more expensive than again he is too expensive

unlike sky sports news and the national media, I dont believe football revolves around london clubs, for that I apologise.

for 10.5m there are much better players that will score more points for cheaper

i think there will be 15+ players who will score more than malouda.

Look at last season people kept hold of their drogba, malouda safety blankets despite chelsea's demise, telling themselves it would get better and it didnt.

Posted at the end of other thread.

    For everyone who has/had Baines:

I have him as of now and can’t decide whether to take him out or not. Of course he is a very expensive player to have sitting on the bench GW1, however GW’s 2-5 are very nice looking and he’ll have a DGW around that time too.

ALso not sure what’ll happen to his price. I can see a rise if people jump all over immediately after GW1 has closed so they have him in in time but can also see some people (like the types who account for the 8% ownership of Hernandez) dumping him when they suddenly realise he didn’t play.

What do you all reckon to the above?

As always, all feedback very much appreciated and valued!

Value is very hard to tell. Most likely a slight drop in ownership as the herds get rid since he didnt play, those buying will have to think about it, but thats a guess.

I will get him GW2 now, not having 8 mill on bench to start!

i got rid purely as it is a big outlay. everton started the season slow last time as well.

i went for hangeland as a value option, and fulham have a decent-ish start to the season

You know, Atilla was right about the prices yesterday. I know they had to bump things up a bit but there's hardly a decent player under 8, particularly midfielders. There's no way Nani, VDV, Adam, Kuyt, Malouda etc all need to be 9 or 10. Silly.

Silly billy. Look at their scores from last year 😉

Ramsay must be worth a little punt, no?

Agreed....one reason I have gone RVP over Carroll. I can save cash with Carroll but only have 8/8.5 to spend and its either Ramsey or Downing for me.

Tough, but the same for everyone

I just think I will steer clear of the cocky first week or two people who get it right at the beginning, come back GW 30 and see whose left!

I agree and for that reason I'm thinking it might be most prudent to try get value from more of those priced in the 5-6.5m region. Hope for more pts per pound and strengthen in other areas where rotation and over-inflated prices aren't so much of a problem.

Are you thinking similarly or do you have a different view?

Same, I have 3 mid (potentially 4), that are 6.5 and below..could be a disaster!

But are enough of the to hop to the ones doing the business

        Ramsey....hmm so tempted

Definitely could be a disaster but I can't see all of them flopping and certainly I'd imagine at least one will go up very nicely in price.

I think for the outlay and the security you can get in other positions as a result it's probably worth the risk....probably! 🙂

Have taken Ramsey atm but might be overkill as I have had RVP since day 1. Unless one assists the others goals at all times its unlikely to work out as a combination.

would having Ivan over A cole really be that risky?? scored virtually the same last season and really tyhiink Ivan terry alex cole is the set back 4 - or will ACole go sick like start of last season??

All this to squeeze RVP in btw

I think this will be my final effort to start the season, not looking at an early WC unless disaster strikes, Suarez is a must once guaranteed a start- just have to decide who is expendable out of Rooney and Bent. (slightly worried about Surman, but he will play, and i expect him to be on my bench most weeks anyway.)
