The first major team news going into the weekend comes from the Arsenal camp with Arsene Wenger confirming that Robin Van Persie should be amongst a string of players available for Saturday’s trip to Newcastle.

The Dutchman was a slight doubt going into the weekend having suffered a knock in the first half of the friendly with Benfica. Wenger has however offered us reassurance that the striker should figure at St James’ Park…

“From the players who played in the last game, everyone should be available.â€

There’s more positive news on both Thomas Vermaelen, who was nursing a back complaint and Theo Walcott who has returned to training ahead of schedule following an ankle problem. Kieran Gibbs is also thought to be available and will likely claim the left-back berth.

With Aaron Ramsey and Andrei Arshavin both also given a clean bill of health, Arsenal’s resources look plentiful enough even without both Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri who remain unlikely to figure. The Gunners will also be without both Jack Wilshere and Abou Diaby in midfield.

Van Persie’s availability could now cause a shuffle within our Fantasy squads. Despite a testing opening three Gameweeks, Arsenal appear to have a run of fixtures during the first-half of the season which should hand the Dutchtman opportunity to flourish. The recent squad upheaval and the continuing doubts over Van Persie’s durability will be a concern but, even so, the Dutchman is currently owned by over 140,000 Fantasy Premier League managers – a figure which could be set to rise as the day progresses.

This early team news from the Emirates has been collated in our Team News section – keep popping back there for all the updates as today unfolds.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I think that benching him for 1 GW isn't the that bad. Considering his price I ll have to go for a 4pt hit to bring him in for GW2 which is just stupid at the start of the season.

How up to date are the team selected by % on the FPL site? Could I check it at 11am?
Either way I don't think 0.1 is worth the 4 point hit if I want to bring in a Chelsea attack next week but interesting to know anyway.

    Dear Mr Wenger

Please use some of you cash from the fabregas sale to put a huge offer towards Sneijder. He is worth 32 million which is less than what you reported got for fabregas...
34-32=2 (previous transfer activity suggest maths isn't a strong point for you)
That 2 million extra throw towards a nice signing bonus for him. Because if Jadson is your answer, dear lord we will be lucky to go to the Europa League.

Also a defender which isnt injury prone would be nice.

    Your sincerly

quick question that will see me finally done with my team. i have a 4wk transfer plan that involves using all my money so 0.5m kept back would be handy just in case so with that in mind my defence at the moment is kompany, enrique, + brown/simpson rotating so the other defender wouldnt be needed that much

have 5m spare, would u go

    a) hughes
    b) warnock
    c) a 4.5m def and save 0.5m - if so who?

Defo Warnock if you don't have Given, otherwise you could always go for Givet/Salgado or Alcaraz. I am a bit wary about Fulham's start, their easier fixtures seem to be away, and they don't often keep cleanies away from home

warnock does interest me and thats who i have in at the moment, its just having that 0.5m free means i dont have to worry about price rises and falls for the first few weeks

so tempting to go with him but come gwk3 when i want arsenal coverage (walcott and rvp) that 0.5m could be the difference between getting them or not

His season was more than OK, he scored 21 goals. He's also on spot-kicks, his fellow striker Vaughan is injured and he's 5.5 million.

21 goals in the championship tho. Perhaps have a look at the previous top scorers in the championship and consider how they did or would have done in the PL:

        2004/5 - Ellington (24)
        2005/6 - King (21)
        2006/7 - Cureton (23)
        2007/8 - SEB (23)
        2008/9 - SEB (25)
        2009/10 - Whittingham (22)
        2010-11 - Graham (24)

Of course it's less impressive in the Championship but it's not child's play. Do you think these players have anything to do with Holt? As you know not all of them even came into the Premiership so how can use this as a comparison?

21 goals, spot-kicks, 5.5, guaranteed starter. This game's about spotting who's likely to score points. Whatever scepticism you have I'm sure you can see why he's a popular choice.

Obviously you want to take a gamble on him which is what the game is all about.

No they didn't all come to the PL, possibly because clubs didn't deem them worthy of a place in a PL squad. The Championship might not be childsplay but there is a big difference. There are loads of others too, Todorov for one at the top of my head

My point is you can't judge a player by what a completely different one has or hasn't done. Nor can you take into account the four or five perks of his selection and suggest it's a pure gamble; I think it's more of an educated guess.

Who would you have as your third striker out of interest?

    Morning guys!

Finally this morning I decided to trust both, sichlair and taarabt, sess had to go - hopefully I won't regret it.

But the question is, rooney, van persie or drogba?????

Rooney would be safest bet, but with van persie I would save a one transfer, cos I will most definetely need him in gw4 onwards.

FAO Mark or scouts, sure this has been asked but now you are 'in' with FPL any chance you could clarify the rules on player price protection? also if you do know the 'formula' will you create a tool similar to fantasytools?

This is the first year I've taken this game seriously (possibly because I found this site!) and have a massive problem with my MF.

I'm planning it for the long term and don't want to take a points hit for GW2 so I'm taking the crazy move of benching Baines. Also can't figure out the rotation risk/pricing complications in FPL MF this year so have opted for more power in other areas and hoping for good value through cheaper mids who have attacking mindsets. Would appreciate some feedback on my team and how to improve it.

So after all that, please tell me what you think of this motley crew:

    Given, Ruddy

Baines, Lescott, Taylor, Bramble (or Brown if I can learn that he'll start instead) Gabbidon

    Silva, Nzog, Sess, Ramsey, Moses

    RVP, Carroll, Holt

    1.0m in the bank, probably Silva>>Malouda GW2.

Would be great if you guys could deconstruct this for me. Thanks in advance.

nothing wrong with benching baines , he will have game in hand and good fixtures.
People get too carried away with gameweek 1

In my opinion it's a bit early for Ramsey and Sess, their opening 3 aren't that great so they're both a bit punty in my book - Sess's popularity on here seems to have been declining over the last couple of weeks now the imminent prospect of being stuck with him has become more real. The plan to keep Baines in despite the blank is reasonable enough I guess, but that squad for the first couple seems a little thin to me.

Cheers for the feedback stilicho. I'm unconvinced on my Ramsey section in particular.

Have decided to break the season into thirds so have looked for players with good fixtures/rotation over that period. (I know Bent has great fixtures but I really don't like his price tag)

Would you advocate either Taarabt or Sinclair or that I downgrade 2 of Nzog, Sess and Ramsey and add 1 quality player?

Just wondered about this team selection:

    De Gea (Given)
Gabbidon / Hangeland / Jose Enrique / Clichy / (Simpson)
    Nani / Meireles / Ramsey / Silva(c) / (Elmohamady)
    Rooney / Rodallega / (Campbell)

    Any Good?

De Gea is question mark just go with Given & a cheapie.
Hangeland is a waste of cash go with A.Cole with money saved on keepers. Swap Clichy with Kompany who is a nailed on starter.
Meireles is a rotation risk. Elmohady meh!

      Otherwise looking good

When K Toure resturns from suspension, will Lescott definately lose his place?....

I'm tempted by Lescott's attacking potential as a differential over Kompany first few games but may just be giving myself an unnecessary transfer to make in a few weeks time.

If he bangs in a header or two it could be 0.5m well spent I'm thinking.

Anyone have an idea when the dgw can be?
If it is gw2, then you must bench vdv or baines to get them both for the dgw, if you dont want to take a hit.

Think they'll both play GW1 maybe even 2. After that both are too much of a risk with Tev and Aguero raring to go.

Balotelli certainly the one most likely to score you big points or lose you points with a silly sending off or getting dragged off after 20mins

morning all. last day of tinkering.

      so far i have

      Given (Mignolet)

      Enrique - Lescott - Kompany - (Orr - Simpson)

      Nani - Downing - Silva - Murphy - Moses

      Carroll - Drogba - A.Johnson

My worries are ?too much city defence and ?Murphy AND AJ.

Any thoughts, trying not to be too much of a sheep.

Enrique surely wont play (but Orr might do ok and you'll be on the Enrique bus from the get-go)
Getting Murphy was my biggest FF regret last season. Awful returns even when he had a good game. Get rid and solve your too much Fulham woes.
One more thing, City DF looked shaky against Utd. Might be something to consider

          ok, thanks fo the advice.

i do have a sneaky feeling Murphy is going to be good this year, but we shall see.

Yes, it is risky 2 city defenders but if they do as well as predicted, it could be a wise move.

however, still not convinced by anything really......
