The first major team news going into the weekend comes from the Arsenal camp with Arsene Wenger confirming that Robin Van Persie should be amongst a string of players available for Saturday’s trip to Newcastle.

The Dutchman was a slight doubt going into the weekend having suffered a knock in the first half of the friendly with Benfica. Wenger has however offered us reassurance that the striker should figure at St James’ Park…

“From the players who played in the last game, everyone should be available.”

There’s more positive news on both Thomas Vermaelen, who was nursing a back complaint and Theo Walcott who has returned to training ahead of schedule following an ankle problem. Kieran Gibbs is also thought to be available and will likely claim the left-back berth.

With Aaron Ramsey and Andrei Arshavin both also given a clean bill of health, Arsenal’s resources look plentiful enough even without both Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri who remain unlikely to figure. The Gunners will also be without both Jack Wilshere and Abou Diaby in midfield.

Van Persie’s availability could now cause a shuffle within our Fantasy squads. Despite a testing opening three Gameweeks, Arsenal appear to have a run of fixtures during the first-half of the season which should hand the Dutchtman opportunity to flourish. The recent squad upheaval and the continuing doubts over Van Persie’s durability will be a concern but, even so, the Dutchman is currently owned by over 140,000 Fantasy Premier League managers – a figure which could be set to rise as the day progresses.

This early team news from the Emirates has been collated in our Team News section – keep popping back there for all the updates as today unfolds.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Come on guys....I just swapped Roonpig for RVP!

          Given
          Orr/Givet/BK
          Nzoggers/malouda/Silva/Moses
          Carrol/Rvp/BZ

          Ruddy/brown/laet/sinclair

0.5m under my pillow for Carrol-->Drogba gw 2

          No Rooney worries me.

Is Brown nailed on when O'shea comes back from injury Ina?

            Don't know about the cheap defence though 😕 I've got 2 biggies, 2 4.5's and 1 4m

Midfield looks solid. Really think Silva will do well against Swansea, whilst not being captain material.

I am not worried about no RVP, because i fancy Rooney to atleast match him in the first week, and then definitely better him in weeks 2 and 3. By which time i'll trade him out for RVP.

Jafaman recomended Brown. Other option is a wolves Def.

its a bloody nightmare...had this team for a while:

          Given
          A.Cole R.Johnson S.Taylor
          Nani Moses Murphy Silva(c)
          Carroll Rooney DJ Campbell

          Ruddy De Laet Brown Osman

but RVP being back thinks maybe I should drop Rooney.... 😕

In the light of Wenger's press conference now my question is

RVP and Nani/Young (with a view to shifting to Malouda perhaps the following week)

Rooney and Malouda (leaving myself more wiggle room for a transfer elsewhere)

Hahaha. It's like thae old Genesis song:

            "I must've made a thousand teams,
Been haunted by 12 million dreams.
But Van Persie injured his feet,
While Tottenham took to the street.

Now did you read the Scout today?
They say that Torres may not play.
But that only answers one fight,
Who will Man U, play on the night?

            There's too many men,
            Too much rotation,
            Making too many problems.
And not much cash to go round.
            Can't you see,
This is a land of confusion.

Well this is the world we live in,
And these are the players we're given.
Use them and let's start trying,
To make it a team worth 10 mil. more."

I'm facing the exact same dilemma, my heart is telling me stick by Rooney from an awesome pre-season, but my FPL mind is telling me, it's Robin Van Persie, of course he'll score...

I think we both may have to go for the first one, as much as it kills us and just hope Rooney is one pass away from points!

The first one was the one I had for weeks before RVP got injured. RVP plays he scores...that's his way. Rooney can do well. But I guess if i have Young or Nani then I'm in with a chance of an assist or two.

this reminds me of this time last year. I opted for rooney and Lampard at the last minute instead of Drog and Malouda....big, big, mistake.

    I'm tempted by this: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0100973/

And I saw that one with the aliens people suggested last time which was alright, and True Grit which is amazing.

There are a few series I want - like Rome, and the Walking Dead (which somehow had a recording fail), but I think I'd need a more substantial package than 2 discs a month.

Ok, I'll add it on the low priority I guess.

I'm thinking about spending one month on the full service (and I know this sounds bad) ripping a load of series discs - not because I want to steal them or anything, but so I can watch them on my phone/PSP on the bus.

But I've got a massive backlog of games to get through, and I'm really enjoying the current one. I've got 8 episodes of the new Justified on my phone which I've not touched.

I'm thinking that Ramsey will give you some Arsenal coverage for this GW and then you can choose Rooney until GW4 where you can switch him out for RVP when Arsenals fixtures get better. Yes Man U's arnt much better but Man U have 2 home games for GW2 & 3 and Arsenals defense isnt as good, so I see them conceding goals to Man U in GW3 where as I dont see the same thing happening in reverse.

Carroll over Bent until proven otherwise.

I currently have Nani in my squad but I cant say whether he is essential to have or not.

      A) N'Zogbia + Lescott

      OR

      B) Nani + 4.0 DF??

Additional info:Already have Kompany,Baines and Malouda as well. But with Baines out,I'll have to start two 4.0 defenders with Kompany if I go with B.

        Given
        Alcaraz, Kompany, Cole
        Nani, Silva, N'Zogbia, Moses
        Van Persie, Drogba, Holt

        Ruddy, Gabbidon, Simpson, N Dyer.

        0.5m in the bank.

        Any suggestions for improvements?

I'm already planning to switch Alcaraz to Enrique by GW3. I may switch Nani to Malouda for GW2 or switch Drogba to Suarez.

So does any of this translate into Ramsey being a good shout or not??

I figure with Nasri, Fabs and Wilshire out that he has to atleast play this GW and if he plays like he has in the pre-season he's bound to get some points.

Ruddy is 4 million wasted as you are never going to play him.

Ruddy has a nice name(Sounds like Rudi)and is bench fodder until the magic wand comes out after gw 3.

I have 500K under my pillow so i can do Sinclair-->Sess.

What's swaying me is Sinclair has nice gw 2&3 and is in peno's.

Ramsey and RVP Arsenal overkill? Either stick with Ramsey, lose Nani for Malouda and replace RVP for Rooney. Or find some money somewhere (eg. Lescott to Kompany) to allow you to do Silva to Malouda in GW2.

Ok final RMT - any feedback will be highly appreciated! I started out with loads of cash in hand but RvP is a must and Nani nailed as starter against the Baggies made me tinker

        Given (Ruddy) - rotation
        Hughes Gabbidon Kompany (Jags, Simpson)
Nani Moses Taarabt Silva (c) (O'Hara)
        Zamora RvP (vc) Bent

I have 0.5 in the bank so can do Nani -> Malouda (GW2) if needed and have options of doing Bent -> Suarez or Zamora --> Cheapie in future!

Since last Sunday we have learned that (a) Nani is on fire; and (b) RVP is fit. Should I bury my head in the sand and stick with draft 1 which had Rooney and no Arse coverage, or go with this:

        Standard keepers
        A Cole, Kompany, 4.5, 4.0, 4.0
        Malouda/Silva, Nani, Sinclair, OHara, Moses
        RVP, Carroll, DJ

Means no NZogbia, though, which could be risky given his high level of ownership?

The problem with trying to pick/include a goal scoring defender is that you never know when they will score. Not worth it. Look for the cheapest way into a defence i/e. Bad K.

You don't need to cover all the big teams though-not in defence where you find the lowest pt scorers.

Just play 3 defs: Bad K plus 4 defs from teams with good home form that you rotate.
