As many of you may have noticed, the EA Sports Index has already been published on the Premier League site. This, of course, is how the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) will break down the Bonus Points in this season’s game.

Many of the names are as we anticipated, though what’s something of a surprise is Shay Given, with 5 saves in Aston Villa’s 0-0 draw at Fulham, looks as though he’s earned no Bonus Points, despite keeping the Cottagers at bay. Newcastle’s Steven Taylor, on the other hand, is the top-rated player on the Index for the goalless Newcastle-Arsenal game. Wigan’s Victor Moses, Man of the Match in many press sources with 9 successful dribbles and 3 shots, is also likely to miss out.

As expected, goal scoring is the main factor- by the looks of things, Luis Suarez, Wayne Rooney, Ivan Klasnic and Steven Fletcher are the highest-rated players on the EA Sports Index for their respective games and seem set to grab all 3 Bonus Points.

Fantasy Football Scout will, of course, be breaking down the Bonus in full for the Premier League and you can expect our article on the matter to be published later today.

  In terms of statistics Young did not have a standout game by his standards - one successful cross, one key pass (which was an assist), one shot on goal.
  
  To be fair, we also had Brunt edging Young for Influence in the ICT (68 vs 60) and for overal ICT Index (11.75 vs 10.00) but I'm a little shocked that, with United winning, that didn't swing it for Young in terms of Bonus. A win doesn't affect the ICT but we know that it's a factor with the EA Index - cleary its not as big a factor as we anticipated.

I don't see why we have to wait 2 days either - it smacks of them making the points less independent, so people will cry fix if they all come out on the same day. They should just routinely do them 3 hours after each game. harrrrrrrumph.

Actually, for the Stoke-Chelsea match, other than Cashley who got 15ppi, Mikel, Bergovic, Shawcross and Terry all had 14.

    Well for starters I can't see my league's points as last year. Need to click on everyone's team. That's cr*p.
    
    Used to click on results to see who played. Can't do that yet. Ok, that's prob due to boners not out yet.
    
    And last but not the least I can see what transfers(Even on a WC) people have made.
    
    I was lucky(Unlucky?) to get on the site on Sat morning, but I feel for the people that could not.Other than that I suppose no complaints.

What a faff/mess over last few days,

I'm sure there will be a Scout article along shortly now discussing the main fpl story of how rubbish it is at the moment. No? Perhaps now they are in Fpl's fold then they can get some answers and brief us all accordingly?

  I'm afraid I have to agree. I don't like biting the hand that feeds me and I'm sure our hosts feel the same way, now that the poacher has turned gamekeeper (if that's not a mixed mataphor).
  
  But the last few days have been absolute chaos. A complete shambles from start to finish and the fact that there's not been one word in one article about it is just bizarre. Dispiriting. Alas, I fear this site may have sacrificed it's independence and I foresee some "them and us" ahead unless they get onside with their posters.
  
  I love this site and hope all will be well. But it's ominous.

Honestly, it makes no kind of sense at all to me. Ashley Young wasn't one of the three best players on the pitch while Ashley Cole was man of the match. Huh?

One of the skills in playing FF has been choosing players who stand a good chance of collecting bonus points. I think we may as well throw that idea out now as this system is clearly completely unpredictable. It's a loss.

Instead of complaining, let's try to figure out how the EA sports index tallies up. My observations -

1. obviously big weightage for goals and assists
2. plus points for shots on target, tackles, clearances, interceptions (Zamora all shots on target)
3. minus points for shots off target (A Young not getting bonus)
4. successful dribbles are irrelevant (Moses no bonus)
5. anything else?

Still cannot explain lack of Given bonus though.

    I always feel its harsh on players they lose points for own goals and penalties
    
    some own goals are really harsh on the defender and penalties should be scored 90% of the time but there is a lot of pressure on the kicker and somethings the goalkeeper can pull off an amazing save.
    
    I guess it makes it more intense when your captain is about to take a penalty though!

  Zamora getting baps for getting shots on target is just ridiculous (and i've got him). It's like the system used in FIFA! Anyone who has played/watched the game could tell you Given was one of the best players on the pitch but no baps.
  This is the problem with stat based bonus points. Then there's the likes of Hoolahan who scored but no baps. Doesn't even make sense. Oh well, quite funny though

  Good point, and I think Given didnt get BP because Villa didnt win the game. I think keepers will get BP if its a low scoring game and they keep a clean sheet.

So this means it's going to be easier to pick players who are guaranteed to get bonus points due to the role they play, rather than how they do in one particular match? I hate this new FPL. Why did they have to team up with EA?

        Same here. They should have stuck with the simple approach. I know there were some issues with bonus points last year, but this system is ridiculous.

  just dnt pick defenders/goal keepers unless u are betting on them scoring
  look at the game roger johnson had where he was praised by everybody including hs manager, 12 pts and 8th rank among the wolves squad.

this bonus system is ridiculous
this game is all based on statistics, and the bonus pts were the only "human" factor in it, and it used to give us some exciting times.
whats the pt of having the bomus based on statistics? nthn except adding a statistic to statistics
