As many of you may have noticed, the EA Sports Index has already been published on the Premier League site. This, of course, is how the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) will break down the Bonus Points in this season’s game.

Many of the names are as we anticipated, though what’s something of a surprise is Shay Given, with 5 saves in Aston Villa’s 0-0 draw at Fulham, looks as though he’s earned no Bonus Points, despite keeping the Cottagers at bay. Newcastle’s Steven Taylor, on the other hand, is the top-rated player on the Index for the goalless Newcastle-Arsenal game. Wigan’s Victor Moses, Man of the Match in many press sources with 9 successful dribbles and 3 shots, is also likely to miss out.

As expected, goal scoring is the main factor- by the looks of things, Luis Suarez, Wayne Rooney, Ivan Klasnic and Steven Fletcher are the highest-rated players on the EA Sports Index for their respective games and seem set to grab all 3 Bonus Points.

Fantasy Football Scout will, of course, be breaking down the Bonus in full for the Premier League and you can expect our article on the matter to be published later today.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

On a second note, we are becoming a bit like arsenal fans, moan moan moan. We moaned last year and previous when the bonus points were subjective and we moan right away after the first (unexpected) game week.

I don't think that people are moaning about the BP's being awarded in a more factual way than before, (ie, now it's predominantly on statistics and being on the winning side), but more the moaning is based on some of the statistics being 'incorrectly' weighted towards a particular skill over another, rather than counting skills more equally.

This is allowing certain types of players to score high PPI, just because of how they play, whereas players with lots of shots off target etc are being penalised too much. Other players are losing out with PPI, even if their different style is still effective when playing football, (e.g RVP having lots of shots, even if that means that a fair few are off target, he still scores lots of goals playing like this).

So, true because actually these results were expected. That keepers in winning teams are more likely to get BP also that efficiency is a key factor. Thats why Cole, Brunt, Johnson, Zamore are in there.

Exactly - the results are reflecting what the EA index says it does, the results aren't unexpected.

Sorry, not explained well.unexpected as in 5 draws in a gameweek. That is pretty much unheard of so the analysis and evaluation regarding player on winning teams is a hard one to make at this early stage of the season. Surely the stats for each gameweek could have been made available (as requested) and analysed for last season so we had an inkling of how things pan out.

I can't actually describe at how disappointed i am. Last season was my first proper season and i finished 4,700 or something. Was really looking forward to having another go at it but it really is terrible, and that's ignoring the site crash. Given, Begovich, Moses, Sessegnon, Taarabt and many other "obviously one of the best performers on the pitch" players getting eff all whilst you've got the likes of De Gea, Olsson and A.Johnson looking like they're gonna be raking them in.

Seriously mucked up. I hate that i'm gonna continue playing because i like getting involved between the banter with mates but this system takes so much skill and opinion away from the game.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I am personally not too upset about teh site crash because I know that it is a temporary problem and once everything is sorted then the site will function correctly. I am happy to be patient, even though I do accept that the crash did stop a lot of people from setting up a team on Friday/Saturday.

However, the PPI/Bonus Points issue is something that I care LOADS about, as that is something that is going to be ingrained into the core of the game for the season to come. Stand out players are not being rewarded with PPI appropriately, and other players are being rewarded too much etc.

The EA index makes it clear that players aren't rewarded on skill or flair - purely objective factors. We knew that when we picked our teams...

Yeah, but why is everyone surprised that player X isn't scoring any PPI etc?

And how come there are huge gaps between PPI, such as the gap of 42 to 16 between Klasnic and Davies, despite the fact that a lot of the PPI factors were the same for each:

          Both on the winning team.
          Both had an assist.
Both get minor striker credit for the clean sheet.

Klasnic scored a goal and perhaps passed the ball around more than Davies, (didn't watch the whole game, just MOTD highlights), so does this justify almost 3 times more PPI than Davies, despite Davies playing the whole match and Klasnic getting subbed?

I don't know why people are so surprised - anyone would think they hadn't read the EA criteria...

As to Klasnic/Davies you've answered it yourself - he scored a goal and passed more (and very accurately). The subbing was a matter of minutes - I don't see a few minutes making a big difference 30 minutes maybe.

Yeah, but the goal and better passing stats, should they really give such a HUGE difference?

I don't know, I'm not sure I like the fact that the top performers in a week have miles more PPI than the other players, almost like they played like Messi/Ronaldo during the gameweek and leaving all the other clowns in their wake.

I can't really explain it, just the PPI totals don't SEEM right, almost like certain actions are receiving too much credit.

+1. Brown was the best player on the pitch btw 😉 Was at the game and he bossed Carroll. Sess second though! RE Carroll and Suarez, hmmmm. Everyone wanted to pass to Suarez all the time and carroll was isolated. As for his 7 'shots' on goal, strange stat. Gonna be interesting how their partnership pans out. carra was poor, but the worse player was Flannigan by a mile. Admittedly though, Hendrson should have given him much more protection when he was on, like Kuyt did when he replaced him.

Of all the issues reported the one that really bugs me is the ability to see what transfers your opponents (and they to see yours) has made. So much so I am going to complain to the FPL for the first time ever and I would urge others to do the same. This is a ludicrous change and takes out any strategic advantage in your transfer plans (for example a manager leading a league can just copy the transfer of their closest opponent!!!)

Anyone else really wish Can You Kick It was running this year?

    *deflated sigh*

Would it really be an error? Seems like a feature of the new system

I didn’t mind seeing how many transfers had been made, it gave you an idea at least. But to actually see them just goes too far

Glad I started a metro team – I might end up playing metro as the main game this season! never thought it would come to that

It's got to be a bug. If it was intentional, they'd make it explicit and easier to see your opponents transfers. There's no reason why you can see one team on graphic view and another team on data view other than it being a bug.

Unless there is a big turnaround in the current state of the FPL or some clarity on the direction they intend to take for next season I'll be looking elsewhere. Its an horrible thought, I've done the FPL for longer than I can remember but its shambolic at the moment and not enjoyable at all.

The viewing of transfers, whilst not terminal just yet, would be unacceptable come the end of the season. Imagine trying to chase down someone that can see what transfers you'd made. Impossible!

FFS should make their own Fantasy Football Game.

7 Bolton players in the top 20 players, i appreciate 4-0 away from home is on paper a great result, but should they all benefit from it so much? simply enough, there were players who had far better personal performances (which afterall is what this whole game revolves around, not team results) that deserve those top 20 places much more (moses, given, smalling to name a few…far too much emphasis on result of the game rather than individual performance it seems

Has anyone played FIFA World Cup Captain Your Country game? That is also by EA Sports. I see a lot of similarity between the EA index and the way player ratings are done in that game.

Goals, assists, shots on target, passes completed, successful dribbles, tackles, and interceptions. Negative points for shots off target and unsuccessful passes. You even get negatives for a shot that hits the bar, or a great cross that gets headed out. Weird, but is what it is.

New bonus points system with goal scoring emphasis sucks hairy balls - although not as much it used to do.

Anyway....moving on from the sh!t bonus system, Sh!t interfaces, Sh!t server capacity, sh!t menu options, sh!t loop hole where you can see everyone's transfers and general poor performance of the new site lol 😉

Can some one have a glance at my team for this week, no changes have been made was going to keep them for the coming weeks...thoughts everyone?

    Given (AlHabsi)
    Kompany Alex Hughes (Orr) (Figeroa)
    Silva Malouda Sinclair Moses Duff
    Bent Rooney (Campbell)

Not sure who to captain, it was going to be Malouda but after Sundays performances I'm leaning more towards Bent.

    Thoughts anyone!?!?!

He didn't play well for one game, He is also highly more likely to score more and get more assists than Bent is. I think you should risk it.

The EA index gives more points to de Gea than to Given. I know its for different matches but it shows just how flawed their system is. Bring back the FPL player dartboard!

Worse than the way the bonus points are selected is the delay in getting them up.
Having to wait two days just takes all the fun out of it.

Oh and Given is injured now , just to cheer you all up 🙂

    PRICE RISES

When a new team joins FPL after GW1, do the players they select count towards 'transfers in' for that player, and affect price rises?

So with all the people that couldn't register teams in GW1, and set them up from GW2, there could be some big movers early on.

      Exactly.

Plus Apple, can you tell me why Klasnic gets 42 PPI and Davies only 16 PPI? Huge differences in PPI almost makes it look like Cahill and Klasnic are the real pros, and players like Ashley Young are just amatures.

I don't like to be drawn on specific examples of players, really I'm just annoyed about the HUGE gap in PPI between players, with Klasnic and Cahill way ahead of everyone else for the week... WTF?!

No, he literally scored a meagre 9 PPI, despite everyone on here saying that he played great and will be hard for Luiz and/or Ivanovic to dislodge.

He scored 9 PPI despite gettting a clean sheet! According to the PPI Alex had a shocker since he scored 9, and Gary Cahill scored 41 PP, so Cahill was more than 4 times as good as him at the weekend...

walcott only played 30mins and they were 30 mins of getting out paced by stephen taylor!!!!!!!!!!! not having the chance to run in behind and managing to cross for a goal kick in stoppage time. apparently that's only 1 point worse than alex stopping everything in sight and distributing to a chelsea player almost everytime as opposed to just lumping it forward a la shawcross

If you look at the ICT stats, Walcott actually did OK through shots etc.

I wonder whether the EA Index works on points per minute.

With the new bonus point system doesnt it make sense to load up on players who score goals? the likes of young and silva become less tempting because assists seem to be worth nothing. im wc this week and my team will be including rooney suarez and torres. seems the logical way to go

Assists are still worth 3 points. Young got 2 this gw, still not to shabby.

Yes, the allocation of boners might have changed, but I had RVP and he never scored, neither did Torres. You never know.

      * Silva please score tonight.

Young shouldn't be given the second assist as it hit two WBA players before going in.. not that I'm whining or anything.

"The likes of Young and Silva become less tempting because assits seem to be worth nothing". So, you dont want assists that get you 3 points, you want bonus points that may get you at most, 3 points? Thats logic right there.
