As many of you may have noticed, the EA Sports Index has already been published on the Premier League site. This, of course, is how the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) will break down the Bonus Points in this season’s game.

Many of the names are as we anticipated, though what’s something of a surprise is Shay Given, with 5 saves in Aston Villa’s 0-0 draw at Fulham, looks as though he’s earned no Bonus Points, despite keeping the Cottagers at bay. Newcastle’s Steven Taylor, on the other hand, is the top-rated player on the Index for the goalless Newcastle-Arsenal game. Wigan’s Victor Moses, Man of the Match in many press sources with 9 successful dribbles and 3 shots, is also likely to miss out.

As expected, goal scoring is the main factor- by the looks of things, Luis Suarez, Wayne Rooney, Ivan Klasnic and Steven Fletcher are the highest-rated players on the EA Sports Index for their respective games and seem set to grab all 3 Bonus Points.

Fantasy Football Scout will, of course, be breaking down the Bonus in full for the Premier League and you can expect our article on the matter to be published later today.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Just on the way the bonus points are awarded. I play a game in Italy where there is something kind of simular. The way thay are awarded is that they take the players ratings from 3 different newspapers and whoever has the highest average gets the points.

I know some ratings in newspapers can be erattic but would be a better system i think.

I love the ratings in Italian papers. I remember looking at the ratings for the entire league in Gazzetta dello Sport and no one even got an 8/10, even if they scored a hattrick. But there were loads of 2 and 3.

Total opposite of this country, where most players get 7-8/10. The journos in Italy obviously take them seriously, but here it's the very last thing a journo quickly does before sending his report in (source: Barry Glendenning).

You also get ratings in steps of .5. So someone can get 5.5, 6.5 etc.

Not sure exactly what difference it makes but may mean a bit more thought goes into it.

The rule that several players get BP in the case of a tie is a complete nonsense. In a high scoring game where many players looked bright EA Index points are high and there is almost no chance of a tie. In a game where everyone played crap, EA Index is equally low for many players and more players get bonus points. Absurdity.

Sigh. Slate me for this but, Cashley didn't play great + he got a Yellow card, being a defender he should know better of tackling. Suarez missed a penalty also both got 3 BP's. De leat gave a penalty away, got 2 BP's and I think Jarvis did better than Ward, as he set up a goal and won a penalty and Jarvis got 1, whereas Ward got 2 and why? Because Ward scored? Very well done......

looks like new baps will suck massively...here's an example

Sifting through the index with the blackburn/wolves match in mind, I wasn't surprised to see to top 50 populated by wolves goalscorer, thats fine. Howevever I suddenly noted that for blackburn the second biggest scorer was Salgado...totally preposterous. Heres a guy who was at fault for both goals and even had a penalty against him, overall he was pathetic on the pitch and was caught out of position so many times (many match reports state the same). I wouldn't even be surprised if he is benched next week.

Thats a real life assessment for you , however according to the stats he was the second best Blackburn player on the pitch only second to Olsson. No Roberts, not even Formica, im not saying they were great but both at least made key positive contributions to the team, unlike Salgado who was a complete and utter liability on Saturday and whose key mistakes resulted in their loss.

This is where stats only tell half the story. You cant generate stats for things like being horribly out of position all match , but you do score for successfully passing back and forth to the center back.

I saw in the paper that Salgado got the 'Worst Player' award for the weekend, and rightly so as he was horrific.

It's almost like Salgado got PPI for being 'involved' a lot and being near the action and effecting the game often. It doesn't take into account that most of his actions were negative and to the detriment of his team's chances of winning the game!

I wish EA would release the formula for the PPI, for example:

    Scoring a goal = 10 PPI
Being on the winning team = 10 PPI
    An assist = 5 PPI
    A clean sheet = 5 PPI
    5 completed passes = 1 PPI
    2 succesful tackles/interceptions = 1 PPI

    etc

If this was done, then the ridiculous weightings towards certain actions would be uncovered...

I tried to crack it before the start ogf the season. Came out with:

      Goal 15 pts
      Assist 5 pts
      CS 5 pts (defenders)
      Win bonus 9pts
General points gained from playing and doing things 9 pts

The large majority of players seemed to fit those values with about a 4 pt spread.

With the PPI system, drawing a game is the same as losing, rather than the 'win' bonus being shared 50:50 amongst the teams.

This is why the teams that won have high scores, but the teams that drew are close to the teams that lost in terms of PPI scores. Bad system since a player obtaining a draw is better than the player losing...

this whole saga has been a game by barca and fabs. why did they wait so long to get him? they didn't need him so they were just messing around knowing fabs would cry till he got sold

fabs had a contract that said if for every year he didn't play in his contract he gets a million. so he will be owed 4m because 'he' wanted to leave. i hope he doesnt get it

That is stupid. Kind of makes you hope he gets injured.

I can see people's frustration with the EA Index just as I could understand people's problems with the "man in the stand" however isn't being a good fantasy football manager about adapting to change and using the information available to your advantage?

Yes but my money league opponent had Rooney captain who I also intended to transfer in and captain but couldn't do it as the site was down 🙁

Not when that would mean trying to take advantage of a ridiculously stupid system, rather than actually trying to get in better players than other people get in. I would not feel satisfaction getting in bad players that just happen to get unfairly rewarded by a flawed points system.

e.g. Salgado seems like a good option to get in 'PPI' wise, even though he's actually an old pile of turd.

I see your point but for me I just want to get as many points as possible regardless of if they are good or not. There will always be great players such as defensive midfielders who have not benefitted by either points system.

Just gives you a further advantage over the casual player though. Sometimes the players who 'look good' might not do as well for bonus.

Everyone needs to chill out a bit. The game is free to play, PL doesn't need to set up a Fantasy Football League each season. You can always play the Metro etc.

I have Hoolahan who scored but didn't get a bonus but De Laet gave away a penaly and gets 2 points. The bonus points are strange but they are the same for everyone.

I've heard so much complaining on here, but the bottom line is if you don't like the new format don't play the game.

Has anyone been into teh members area and compared the stats for Terry (14 pts) and Alex (9pts)? There's just no real difference at all.
