While we pointed you towards the Fantasy Premier League Apology earlier, having had time to digest its contents, I thought I’d bring you my view on the actions laid out in today’s release.

We’ve all been immensely frustrated by the events of the weekend – before tonight, it was almost as if the Premier League players themselves had empathy for our situation – arguably, we had very little to cheer.

Personally, I just want to move on now – to look forward to Gameweek Two – I’m sure I’m not alone in feeling that. Before we do however, let’s chew over that FPL statement a little.

Receive unlimited transfers
No points will be deducted for any transfers you make up to the Gameweek 2 deadline (11:30 BST on Saturday 20th August 2011). If you have already made transfers and had points deducted, these will be restored to your overall total by midnight on Tuesday 16th August 2011. If you have already opted to play your wildcard, this too will be restored at the same time.

This first point, not surprisingly, is by far the most significant. Effectively we now go again with our squad selection. There’s already plenty who feel somewhat aggrieved by this, who feel that they are being punished for their planning and foresight both in terms of getting their team organised and for spotting talent without the assistance of Gameweek One’s fixtures.

While I see the validity of this argument, my main concern as a player is that I want to be playing this game on a level playing field. If I win my mini-league, I want to win it knowing that I’ve done so with no more advantage than my rivals.

Right now, there are members of my mini-leagues who can claim that they were attempting to make changes to their team or captain on the morning of Saturday’s games. You can say they should have planned ahead but, hand on heart, I consider at least changing my captain and substitute order on Saturday morning about 90% of the time over the season. I can understand the frustration of those who were unable to do so last weekend and I don’t want to spend the season risking that being cited when they look at the teams above them.

Personally, I don’t want to play in a league where a proportion of my rivals can claim any disadvantage now, or as the Gameweeks roll on. By taking this step the FPL have at least leveled matters, even if proportion of FPL Managers feel almost punished, nobody can be seen to have a true advantage going forward.

There is the argument that, those teams who started well in Gameweek One (not too many before tonight) have lost their advantage since those with lesser team selections can now reset their squads for free. That’s true of course, but then, by playing a wildcard, everyone had this possibility regardless, the only difference is that now, everyone can keep that wildcard intact – again, everyone stays on a level.

It’s a very difficult situation to weigh up – personally, I feel slightly numb after Gameweek One – in many ways I want a new start where nobody can claim an advantage or disadvantage. I think today’s solution from the FPL gives us that, even though there will be those who feel they’ve lost out. Given the problems suffered on Friday/Saturday – it seemed inevitable that we’d be left with a group of FPL players who felt that way. At least now we have a level playing field for the remainder of the season – that seems a fair situation.

One final note here – regarding the price freeze prior to Gameweek Two – I’ve enquired on this and we’re waiting confirmation. I’ll communicate this once we have news.

Opt to start mini-league scoring at Gameweek 2
The option is available to all mini-league administrators to start the scoring from Gameweek 2. Go to ‘Leagues’ > ‘League name’ > ‘Administer’ > Select ‘Gameweek 2’ in ‘Scoring Starts’ drop-down menu and click ‘Update league details’.

Okay, so now the decision whether to scrap Gameweek One as a scoring Gameweek is down to league administrators. Passing the buck a little but a smart move. Personally, for the reason’s I’ve outlined above, I think it’s valid to start scoring from Gameweek Two to ensure that nobody feels at a disadvantage.

Having said that, perhaps we should give managers a choice. While we’re resetting our Head to Head Leagues, there’s the possibility of running a Gameweek Two Classic League for Members and Non Members and offering the option. To be honest, I need to clear my head and sleep on it before I consider that any further.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I shall be very cheesed off if my mini leagues restart GW2 just because a small percentage couldn't be arsed getting their team in at a sensible time. When everyone knew there were likely to be problems.

I had my team in a sensible time, but couldn't make the changes I wanted on the friday afternoon and through saturday morning. That's not leaving it until the last minute. I would have had Rooney captain had there not been any problems, and I wouldn't have had Baines and VDV. So I think starting from GW2 is very reasonable, and I made 55 points this week which isn't bad at all. Thx very much david silva!

Nope, I did my team a week back, and forgot all about it. Didn't consider there would be huge problems for the best part of 24 hrs prior to the deadline. If I had done it on the thurs there would have been no point having 18 mil worth of players not getting any game time gameweek 1 in my squad.

No real point doing a team every day, and saving it. I would have achieved nothing from that when all the major decisions will be made based on rumours, press-conferences nearer the time. I think fri afternoon is a reasonable time before the deadline to sort the team out.

I think most ppl would have changed, invariably most ppl do any changes on the fri and sat before kick-off. Ppl would only complain about how they would ahve had this and would have had that but for the site crash, so fpl had to do something. A free wildcard for everyone seems like a fair solution. I had 5-6 players I didn't want through no fault of my own, and in a game where the players you have determine the winners and losers, that's not right.

As fas as starting from gameweek 2, there are arguments for and against it, but I think its good that fpl have given everyone that option. If your lge administrator has had a bad week and decides to take up that option, there's nothing you can do about it unfortunately. But blame fpl and not the lge administrator

ok... if the players you buy in go up by 0.1 for the week, and you want to transfer them all out at the end of the week, you'll make no cash (as players have to go up by 0.2 for you to make 0.1). On the other hand if the players you *really want* also go up by 0.1 you'll have to pay extra to get them back... That's how I see it, am I missing something?

Thx Mark. I think this, in all honesty, is a satisfactory resolution to a very difficult situation.

Yes there will be those who feel aggrieved, but there are even more who haven't been able to select the squad they wanted due to the problems. And Mark's right, this non-level playing field in gameweek 1 will give those with struggling teams a ready made excuse all season, and will take the gloss off the eventual winning moment. No one wants that, at least this way parity is restored. Far from ideal, but the fairest possible solution.

I also like the option to choose whether to scrap gameweek 1, and commence lgs from gameweek 2. And it seems live scoring will be made available and the lgs will be updated far quicker starting from next week. Both are very needed for the success of the game IMO. So make welcome returns!

Looking forward to the rest of the fantasy season!

I disagree my friend. The team I had was provisional, it had Baines and VDV, I would have changed Carroll to Suarez having the team news rumours on Sat morning. I also would have had Rooney captain. In the end I had Silva captain, and made 55 points this week, but think that's the fairest scenario because not having all the players you want through no fault of your own is not right.

Perfectly reasonable waiting on team news Fri afternoon and Sat morning - very reasonable when you have a wildcard and want to make as informed decsion as possible!

That fixture was cancelled pretty early on. You had time to get rid of them before the site troubles. Plenty of us have Carroll due to little news. Suarez wasn't guaranteed to start imo. 55 is great compared to other who wanted to do everything last minutes. For every RMT I saw on here, I would expect the "save team" button hit on their page or else what's the point.

Ok I agree probably a little sloppy on my part not to update the team sooner, given that that fixture was cancelled on the monday or tuesday I think. But still, I really don't think it's that unreasonable to make changes on the friday, it's surely prudent to gleam all the information you can to make the most informed decision on a squad of 15 players.

My score would only be slightly higher had I made the changes I wanted. But other ppl have spent the day moaning about this and that, and I really don't want that to persist all season. That really will take the fun out of the game

First of many probable team changes..

    Given/Vorm

A Cole, Kompany, Enrique, Simpson, Brown

    Young, N'Zogbia, Moses, Surman, Jarvis

    Aguero, Rooney(C), Suarez

My only concern is that everyone will have a similar line-up. Might take a gamble and swap Young/Suarez and invest the money in someone like Charlie Adam who doesn't seem to be in many peoples' plans atm...

So if Gary Cahill doesn't go up in price in the next hour we can be pretty sure there will be no price rises this gameweek?

He's sitting on 168.6% to rise. That's usually conclusive.

Not sure how I feel about unlimited free transfers- I'd just about talked myself into making none this week! Makes my week at work more interesting though....

The prize for the manager who gets the highest score GW2, 3 and 4... when they say "all transport", I wonder if this includes a return flight from Oz.

Looking at this after 3 changes:
    Given Al Habsi
    A.Cole Kompany Hughes Simpson Gabbidon/De Laet/Caulker
    Nani Tarrabt Moses NZog Surman
    Suarez Zamora Aguero/Torres

3m in bank - Torres for next 2GW (will he start). RVP in for GW4. Aguero or silva in around same time

Who out of 3 listed as final 4m def?

Scared to do the transfers. When I click Make Transfer, it says
"At the next deadline these transfers will deduct 16 points from your total score in classic leagues and your match score in head-to-head matches."

now with this new BPS system the best is to get player who score goals, and are on the winning side and play on the front... they will get all the bonuses... I think we have to forget about small team strikers...if they loose or tie they will never get bonuses

I agree it's very odd and i don't profess to have a clue how the bonus points re gonna work out this year. I was just taking exception to your sweeping statement that we should all forget about small team strikers as they will never get bonuses. Especially when you obviously didn't even both to check seeing as Andy Johnson was staring you in the face

The new EA system seems to have a thing for strikers that actually have a very low all-round contribution (which I can't even begin to understand why) - Klasnic, Agbonlahor and Johnson all got fairly high points.

I guess Hernandez will rake the bonus in this season then...

I do really want to bring in Torres/Bent/Rooney/van Persie/Aguero but have to decide which two I'm going to keep out.

    Malouda can't cover Torres.
    N'Zogbia maybe can cover Bent.
    Young maybe can cover Rooney.
No one from the Ars mid can cover van Persie.
    Silva maybe can cover Aguero.

So.. it's right now Torres, Rooney, van Persie. Defenders right now Bosingwa, Kompany, Brown, De Laet, Simpson, too weak from the back?

Looks like I am going for Torres. Arsenal two tough games (I know RVP can score against anyone - willing to risk it). I have Nani - Rooney can come after city derby better options elsewhere IMO. City have two away games - one v spurs. I would feel a bit more foolish ignoring chelsea home games v norwich and west brom.

Right i've made 8 changes so far and brought in the 5 "risers" like everyone else.

I'd doubt there's a chance in hell of any price fluctuations this week. With potentially 2 million wildcards in use you'd have the likes of Aguero % Cahill rising by .3m and guys like Drogba & Vidic falling by the same amount which would be a farce. Not gonna happen imo.
