While we pointed you towards the Fantasy Premier League Apology earlier, having had time to digest its contents, I thought I’d bring you my view on the actions laid out in today’s release.

We’ve all been immensely frustrated by the events of the weekend – before tonight, it was almost as if the Premier League players themselves had empathy for our situation – arguably, we had very little to cheer.

Personally, I just want to move on now – to look forward to Gameweek Two – I’m sure I’m not alone in feeling that. Before we do however, let’s chew over that FPL statement a little.

Receive unlimited transfers
No points will be deducted for any transfers you make up to the Gameweek 2 deadline (11:30 BST on Saturday 20th August 2011). If you have already made transfers and had points deducted, these will be restored to your overall total by midnight on Tuesday 16th August 2011. If you have already opted to play your wildcard, this too will be restored at the same time.

This first point, not surprisingly, is by far the most significant. Effectively we now go again with our squad selection. There’s already plenty who feel somewhat aggrieved by this, who feel that they are being punished for their planning and foresight both in terms of getting their team organised and for spotting talent without the assistance of Gameweek One’s fixtures.

While I see the validity of this argument, my main concern as a player is that I want to be playing this game on a level playing field. If I win my mini-league, I want to win it knowing that I’ve done so with no more advantage than my rivals.

Right now, there are members of my mini-leagues who can claim that they were attempting to make changes to their team or captain on the morning of Saturday’s games. You can say they should have planned ahead but, hand on heart, I consider at least changing my captain and substitute order on Saturday morning about 90% of the time over the season. I can understand the frustration of those who were unable to do so last weekend and I don’t want to spend the season risking that being cited when they look at the teams above them.

Personally, I don’t want to play in a league where a proportion of my rivals can claim any disadvantage now, or as the Gameweeks roll on. By taking this step the FPL have at least leveled matters, even if proportion of FPL Managers feel almost punished, nobody can be seen to have a true advantage going forward.

There is the argument that, those teams who started well in Gameweek One (not too many before tonight) have lost their advantage since those with lesser team selections can now reset their squads for free. That’s true of course, but then, by playing a wildcard, everyone had this possibility regardless, the only difference is that now, everyone can keep that wildcard intact – again, everyone stays on a level.

It’s a very difficult situation to weigh up – personally, I feel slightly numb after Gameweek One – in many ways I want a new start where nobody can claim an advantage or disadvantage. I think today’s solution from the FPL gives us that, even though there will be those who feel they’ve lost out. Given the problems suffered on Friday/Saturday – it seemed inevitable that we’d be left with a group of FPL players who felt that way. At least now we have a level playing field for the remainder of the season – that seems a fair situation.

One final note here – regarding the price freeze prior to Gameweek Two – I’ve enquired on this and we’re waiting confirmation. I’ll communicate this once we have news.

Opt to start mini-league scoring at Gameweek 2
The option is available to all mini-league administrators to start the scoring from Gameweek 2. Go to ‘Leagues’ > ‘League name’ > ‘Administer’ > Select ‘Gameweek 2’ in ‘Scoring Starts’ drop-down menu and click ‘Update league details’.

Okay, so now the decision whether to scrap Gameweek One as a scoring Gameweek is down to league administrators. Passing the buck a little but a smart move. Personally, for the reason’s I’ve outlined above, I think it’s valid to start scoring from Gameweek Two to ensure that nobody feels at a disadvantage.

Having said that, perhaps we should give managers a choice. While we’re resetting our Head to Head Leagues, there’s the possibility of running a Gameweek Two Classic League for Members and Non Members and offering the option. To be honest, I need to clear my head and sleep on it before I consider that any further.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Was watching the replay of Man City vs Swansea and how good was Aguero...WOW....only played around 30 mins, scored twice, assisted one and was a real handful for Swansea's defenders.

Really can't leave him out of my team after this and thinking of having him as my attacking cover instead of Silva.

PS. is Larsson on set pieces for Sunderland? If so he might be better option than Sessegnon even though the latter is OOP.

Too much bs been going on since the opening day of the EPL Fantasy League. Its kinda no fun or exciting at this moment.

I got 55 points, but theres no satisfaction no joy. Actually I could have done better since I was going to transfer alcaraz for Hughes, but had no chance to do it. None of my subs(givet, bramble, ferguson) played so i lost points there.

The problems with the site killed the fun about Fantasy League. All time people spent following updates, changing their team like 20 times before the final selection til the deadline for this bs?

Not even 2 extra wildcards can take away all the bs thats been going on since the season started.

it would ruin the balance of my side, but i do know what you mean. i didnt put one in thoght because i'd rather have the potential of 12pts from torres/nani, potentially doubled to 24pts than the chance of 6 from a chelsea defender who i would never captain

p.s. superdunny, what do you make of keans conviction today? if ever there was an excuse for the owners to get rid but save face (slightly anyway), then this would be it

Right, lots of team tinkering going on, I think a strong Chelsea attacker is essential for GW 2 and 3 as captain but wouldn't have much faith in Malouda. I'm certainly not buying Drogba and yet Torres would be a slight risk too, plus I could have Aguero, RVP or Rooney instead. I suppose that just leaves Lampard, who'll probably once again be on FKs in Drogba's absence, but with Lampard in my ideal team i'm £.5m over my budget.. Hrmmm

Is no one else concerned that there is absolutely no evidence of this week's change on the new site despite the magnitude of the change?

It's not the "old site", it's the Premier League site - the official site of the PL.

And the statement clearly says; "If you have already made transfers and had points deducted, these will be restored to your overall total by midnight on Tuesday 16th August 2011. If you have already opted to play your wildcard, this too will be restored at the same time"

To be honest if it does work I can't see anyone making more than 0.3m; if the price goes up 0.2 (which it only will for the likes of Suarez/Cahill/Aguero), you sell back at half the difference (0.1).

0.3m won't buy you a more expensive player this early on as someone would have to lose at least 0.5, in which case they'd be a bad choice anyway.

With Nasri going to city im thinking Aguero only attacking cover needed. Silva is good but too many times assiste the assist. Also i doubt he will get bonus points , as even shots that hit the bar score negtive points.
Sometimes aguero wont play once champions legue starts , but even so i think he worth it.

Suarez or Caroll also look fairly essential.

That leaves a big problem because Rooney Van persie and Torres also look very tempting , throw in bent and it all very tricky upfront .

Only alternative is to pick defence and midfield that is cheapish but reliable and just use transfers to bring in expensive forwards based on fixtures.

ie Bent torres Aguero now then in a few weeks Rooney van persie and suarez etc while keeping mids stable

don't wanna take a 40 point hit for no reason... 🙂

I'm just as confused mate, i'm tinkering with my team now and currently on -20 points if i hit the confirm transfers?!
The FPL site is a disaster in my opinion, nothing is clarified on the actual site?

READ THE ARTICLE FFS. It says all transfers made for hits will be refunded.

obviously not a "perfect" team but I very much understand where he is coming from. some of my rivals have teams that include newly promoted championship players who actually don't start and in a "Regular" season they'd have to spend VERY VALUABLE transfers to get them out but now can drop that dead-wood for free.

I spent weeks researching starting 11s and choosing a balanced side and understand "it is what it is" but it really takes away a MAJOR competitive advantage that I had starting out of the blocks strong.

I understand your point. People like that shouldn't beat you over the season anyway if they couldn't get 15 decent players.

That's fair but this game does have an element of chance to it - captain choices, injuries, double game weeks, etc. so when the parts of the game that are SKILL (picking a pre-season team) get ruined, it makes it even more difficult to beat those players who can't even get 15 decent players... It levels the playing field a bit.

Nothing changed because they have reset the counter on costs to zero-- look at the transfers page. in the cost box and hit ????

I was looking at midfielders at 6 and saw him in there. I am quite disappointed with myself. Who's a better option at 6? I'm thinking of Danny Murphy assuming he's on spot kicks and he has quite good fixtures.

Chris Brunt got bonus this week despite losing and not scoring, VERY promising.

O'Hara a solid, proven player as well. As is Murphy as you said.

Think both are better than Anderson, whose place is not fully assured and he won't get many points when he does start.
