The Digest – a new regular. The concept is simple – capture the Gameweek past under three headings, assessing the player, the team and the one event that has the Fantasy Football community stirring.

Gameweek One provided an easy introduction, although sadly, around the genius of one Argentinian and the artistry of a sparkling Monday night display, some of its events are best forgotton.

The Player

Sergio Aguero
Late to the party, Sergio Aguero transformed the Gameweek in thirty minutes by dismantling Swansea with two goals and a smart assist for David Silva’s third goal. Busy and bustling, Aguero’s impressive industry was surpassed by moments of brilliance, capped by a 20-yard drive that dipped and curled away from the grasp of Vorm – a keeper who had, for so long, repelled City’s best efforts.

Any doubts that Aguero would take time adjusting to Premier League life were extinguished – concerns that Mancini’s men would need more matches to gel with their new talisman quelled. The link up play with Silva, in particular, looks to have the potential to dismantle defences and Aguero clearly has the end product to convert the creative spark supplied by the Spaniard.

Fantasy Managers will have revised their plans of the back of the half-hour cameo. Suddenly Aguero is no longer a “wait and see” prospect – he’s firmly in our plans with heavy investment heading his way.

The Team

Man City
City’s slow ascent from a teasing tormentor to ultimate destroyers of Swansea’s plucky Premier League baptism sent a clear message to their title rivals. The firepower available to Roberto Mancini is clearly devastating, reinforced considerably by Aguero’s explosive introduction on the hour-mark.

Around the Argentinian, last season’s campaigners stepped up accordingly. David Silva conjured and cajoled in midfield, linking play, seeking the ball, dazzling the visitors forlorn attempts to shackle his influence. Yaya Toure was immense – by pushing his presence further up the pitch, Mancini turned the game, imprisoned Swansea in their own half and was able to sustain the pressure to such a degree, breaking point was inevitable. Even Edin Dzeko, rejuvenated by a pre-season and clean slate, toiled as the lone striker before providing the focal point for Aguero to buzz around with such effect. A 75-minute appearance for Adam Johnson, the usual smattering of step-overs this time accompanied by an end product as he provided the ammunition for Dzeko’s crucial opener.

Behind all finery, Vincent Kompany marshalled a defence which started the campaign with a clean sheet – the first of many for a defence which topped the rankings last term.

We shouldn’t be seduced too easily – Swansea’s resistance seemed to drain once Dzeko breached their defence; clearly Brendan Rodgers has a lot of work to do before his outfit can compete with such an effective foe. However, it’s apparent that City’s attacking talent bristles with Fantasy potential and with defensive resolve also on offer, the temptation to boost the City quota in our lineups is strong.

The Talking Point

Fantasy Premier League Woes
Much as we’d like to dwell on some sparkling on-field displays, the Fantasy Gameweek was dominated by the problems suffered by the Fantasy Premier League game. Demand on Friday evening created issues which ultimately saw the service disrupted with managers unable to log on to tweak their lineups and new managers denied the opportunity to sign-up. Despite toiling overnight and a brief window of normality from 5am onwards, big demand again on Saturday morning again threatened the service and Friday night’s issues returned.

Live points were disabled while the service looked to recover and it wasn’t until Sunday that the FPL began to edge back to near working order.

Yesterday came the apology for the issues – the FPL have taken the step to lift the cost on transfers leading up to this weekend’s deadline and emphasised the option or mini-league admins to scrap Gameweek One’s tallies. New monthly prizes were introduced; an extra incentive for Gameweek’s 2-4 thrown into the mix. Inevitably, the solution left some feeling aggrieved and there’s still concerns that the message has yet to reach those who play the game. There’s still confusion.

In truth, the FPL manager just wants stability. We want the game to get back on its feet, to make a recovery and to reinvigorate our Fantasy seasons. We’ve got everything crossed for Gameweek Two. We hope to be talking football in next week’s digest.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Only worry would be not having a big hitter in your midfield. If someone hits great form then it will be hard to get them in without multiple transfers.

Opinions on Steven Fletcher anyone? I'm afraid Wolves will play 4-5-1 and Doyle will start over him.

Although I'll probably opt for O'Hara + Odemwingie instead of Brunt + Fletcher.

Hmmm, that is not good -

Downing as I can't tell if Downing or Suarez will get th goals and hope that Downing will supply them.

Sess - is playing as a striker.

Brunt - not sure at all but was looking for a 6mil Mid

Moses - think he'll be scoring well above his 5.5mil tag

Tiote - think he'll be scoring well above his 4.5mil tag

Tiote Will get only avverage of 1 point per game...def mid in a team probably playing 451 most of the season and will get more yellows than any player in the league..n dyer same price more points

Brunt i like but not until gw 4 onwards...jarvis maybe?

Sess i dont know enough about and dont see sunderland preforming.

Downing might come good but until then i think he is not worth the price

Possibly not, but didnt fancy doubling up on any of the other big teams for the next few games weeks. Plus Silva and Aguero's link up play was brilliant on Monday, if City score goals, think they both will be involved in most of them. Who would you suggest replacing for one of them?

Not if you get Mikel who costs 5.0 and got 2 bonus points. The way bonus points are awarded, he's likely to get a lot as his passing game is so simple and everything goes through him from the back.

@CF: SNAP! Mikel is an option for sure...dude nearly scored a screamer too...but not sure he'll get that option...AVB is attack minded though so maybe this will be a new trend.
@Christina: I'm only going KUN when he starts...don't like the bench option even though he was brilliant...also worried about Suarez doing a bench in the near future..which is why I'm stuck on Carroll still..I may change all this though as you know how we obsessed people get...we can convince ourselves of most everything..haha!

Torres for his good performance against Stoke and his next 2 fixtures, when I'll look at changing him.
Rooney because his fixtures aren't as bad as they look and I think Utd can score against anyone. Plus with all their injuries I wouldn't be surprised if they were involved in higher scoring games than usual.

But surely since goals = bonus that is what you want.
If I do want 3 big hitters up front I sort of resigned myself to the fact that im probably gunna have dyer in.

Tchoyi will shine but not this weekend (I Hope). Dyer or Surman for me...Norwich seems up for the fight. I'd go Brown over Senderos simply because no-one is really sure who is going to be the form player and in that case you gotta hope and rely on home and away rotation...and he does that with Simpson. Seems good otherwise.

Not liking the recent keeper options on here but that's just me. Would hate to spend a transfer on a keeper if not on a wildcard so...but that's just me.

The bonus points have changed Sir. Bent will be rewarded now when he scores a goal, and he'll have his fair share of chances at home against a make shift Blackburn back line.

        Suarez is away to Arsenal.

Tough call. On paper Villa have the easier game, but I'm trying to work out where the assists are coming from for the strikers to score. Pool couldn't have a better time to go to Aresnal, but they're not going to roll over.

I think the emergence of Aguero will lower Yayas value. He had a barnstorming game against Swansea but was playing as the second striker till Aguero came on. Mancini is a naturally defensive managager and with the firepower City now hold up front, I see Yaya playing deeper. Silva on the other hand, will have a sharp shooter up front to pick out and finish his assists.

I'd go Warnock over Young as he was more influential. Don't think ShawX is worth it just yet either..Maybe change for Woodgate. Dyer seems good but Surman I think will be more successful. Not sure about Larrson. Be careful of Suarez I think...he's bound to be benched (for a rest) soon.

The punt on Blues for your defense is ok but there is safety in numbers and by that i mean having more teams fighting for your clean sheet rather than one team. So Kompany instead of Alex as an option rather...

I don't think it's a bad choice but am just pointing out that you're only digging in one hole when you could have two...and both seem good enough to hold teams back. One slip and you'll Chelsea..and I don't want that to happen...haha...but seriously...it's not a bad option so go with it if you want...

Aresnal's a tricky game but they get better after that. If Fulham's poor form on the road has improved then yes their fixtures are pretty decent. Both are decent punts...

I got so frustrated with Silva(c) this gw. He could/should have had 3 goals with a bit of luck and not hitting the post.

Yaya will score sooner or later, is 1.5m cheaper and seems in line for similar boners as Silva.

Now that Kun is on the map, he is the only one I'm interested in. I might just stay clear from all City players until gw 4 though.
