As we all likely know by now, Fantasy Premier League (FPL) have granted unlimited transfers to reassess and fix our Fantasy outfits ahead of Gameweek two.

Given such freedom to pick and choose new teams as we please, Fantasy managers should be ready and willing to select a captain who will come out of the traps kicking and screaming.

David Silva topped affairs last week and fortunately did voters proud – the problem was that the Man City playmaker was one of only a small handful of players to score points in this low-scoring Gameweek. Here’s a few we think might top affairs come Saturday morning deadline…

Fernando Torres

There was something a little different about Fernando Torres’ display last Sunday. Despite failing to score in the nil-nil draw with Stoke, there was a Joie de vivre about El Nino’s game- he looked hungry and livelier than ever before in a Chelsea shirt and hinted at a return to the form of old.

A home tie against West Brom -a game in which Chelsea scored six goals last season- offer the perfect platform for Torres to spread his wings and fly. Fingers crossed it doesn’t prove a false dawn.

Similar Alternatives: Frank Lampard, Florent Malouda

Wayne Rooney

Rooney is already off the mark this season. Netting at West Brom from open play, Man United’s star forward carried forward his sparkling pre-season displays as the champions opened their account with a win.

A home game against Tottenham isn’t going to be the top fixture on paper to attract investment, but United are deadly at home- they dropped just two points at Old Tarafford all last season. Throw in his spot-kick duties in addition to his overall good form and we envisage there will be a fair few handing him the armband for the final fixture of the gameweek.

Similar Alternatives: Ashley Young, Luis Nani

Darren Bent

The Aston Villa hitman is one of those strikers you buy for a season and not just for Christmas – he’ll have lean weeks but, as the years have shown, will get you the points on a regular enough basis.

A home match with Blackburn Rovers tied into a belief that we think his chances of picking up bonus points could see an increase under the new EA Sports PPI Index, suggests Bent is looking a good proposition for Gameweek 2.

Similar Alternative: Charles N’Zogbia

Leighton Baines

Everton were the other side unable to take part in Gameweek 1. Fortunately, unlike Spurs, they won’t be facing the reigning champions- instead they play host to a QPR side still licking their wounds from a 4-0 battering at Loftus Road last weekend.

Despite a 8.0 price tag hanging round the neck of Leighton Baines, last season’s top-scoring FPL defender has shown he’s clearly capable of producing the same points returns as the majority of midfielders; 5 goals and 11 assists in 2010/11 attests to that.

His forays up and down the left-flank will prove vital for the Toffees and up against a recovering Kieron Dyer (or Bradley Orr), Baines will favour his chances. He’s also a dab hand at set-pieces.

Similar Alternatives: Louis Saha, Tim Cahill

Alternative Alternatives

Grant Holt – A kind first home fixture for a penalty-taking captain of this newly-promoted side.

Scott Sinclair – Remove the club captaincy and we’ve got a rinse and repeat case of the above.

Steven Fletcher – The Wolves striker has been all about goals when given time on the pitch. He now seems more secure and will be hosting Fulham.

The poll is now hot off the presses and awaiting your votes, as you can see we think the strikers are going to rule supreme this week – but who are we to know? The evidence of your accumulated clicking fingers will tell us in a couple days time exactly where favour lies.

Saha: good now, but will be injured any time soon

Bosingwa: Not gonna start every game, Ivanic will challenge his starting place

Richards: I Just don´t like him

    Given Kenny

Baines (V) Cole de Laet (Enrique) (Simpson)

    Malouda N'Zogbia Sessegnon Taarabt (Moses)

    Torres (C) Suarez Holt

Plan is to downgrade Cole to Kompany GW 4, as well as upgrade Torres to RVP (or maybe Aguero).

How certain are we that Torres will start?

And obviously I'm lacking City cover, but their next two games aren't great, while Chelsea could get two major hauls. Maybe Silva in for Malouda to cover their attack? Or Kompany for Cole?

    Any thoughts?

dangerous in the sense he got high up the pitch but didnt come close to scoring.

he'll get a few goals, but 5 max in a season so he's a gamble - IMO better options at that price range and there's no real cheap way of get attacking chelsea coverage without going Kalou (and he's gash and will be rotated).

I'm tempted to buy the cheapest (4.0, 4.5) midfielder as my third sub and never play him. Leaves all the value i need to strengthen my attack and most heavy hitters are fixture proof anyway so your 3rd sub is just a filler anyway.

So City had a blazing start to the season at home to newly promoted Swansea. I believe City will be a real force to contend the title this year but I am still approaching there players with a certain degree of caution.

Yes. Aguero looked the business, very quick, very light footed, great touch, and loves to shoot. I know people don't need to be reminded of this, but it was at home, against a side who clearly felt beaten with the Dzeko goal, there is no doubting Aguero's talent and class, but where he is not guaranteed to start this weekend, and where we still have no idea what the deal with Tevez is, I am holding off.

No. I don't agree with the "City lite" comments, where someone only has Kompany or Silva or Toure in their team. City have a really tough test, as do all teams, travelling to Bolton this weekend, they are high flying after their 4-0 at the weekend, and I really don't see too many goals in this one.

This game is then followed by the Spurs game, away again, and if nothing else, Spurs had developed a sense of cohesiveness and solidity at the back at the end of last season, I don't see this changing, but I do see Spurs continue to struggle to score at times, which means more of a focus on defense. It is their first home game of the season, where they consider themselves title contenders (however disillusioned we all think this might be), they will slug out the encounter with City, and again, I see more goals in this one, but so many more that I chose a City player over say a Liverpool or Everton player.

This brings us to Wigan, sure, we will want more City coverage for this, and at this point it will be clearer whether Nasri is there, Tevez is gone, and so on. Fulham away after this, but I will feel a lot better once it is clear who is coming and who is going with City.

Just my thoughts, am open to correction and debate, but this is why I am happy with just Kompany for the next 2-3. (more so because I think he is a season keeper with the City defense, still not so sure about who in their attack I want for the season, IF Nasri is on his way - I feel this will impact on Silva).

I agree, this Aguero man crush knows no end. I'm holding off until fixtures improve, same with Suarez. Although I do think they'll both be fantasy gold this season.

Nice post. I seriously doubt Mancini is going to let his team go gung-ho all of a sudden - don't think it's his style at all. Away at Bolton you'd expect him to keep it tight like last season. Will be interesting though.

Deeper against the bigger teams (Chelsea/Man U etc) but will have more room against the smaller sides. He'll be a good points grabber, albeit not fantasy gold

For the time being anyway, don't get me wrong, the kid is a superstar in my eyes, but I am holding fire in favour of the more dependable starters, with better fixtures, Suarez/Bent/Rooney.

That being said, I am thinking Torres (C) this weekend, not a 100% dependable starter, but he should do.

What do people think of this defence? Forget the rest of the team for now…

      Given (Ruddy)
Kompany and then 2 of Hughes, Distin, Shawcross, Enrique
(Everton/Liverpool rotate well, as do Liverpool/Stoke with Everton/Fulham less so, but still pretty well)

My first time using a rotational policy, seems a good idea. Any one with more experience have an input?

Nailed on for what? Their teams or your team?

Torres is not a guaranteed starter, but he should do. Sess and Sinclair are nailed on starers for their teams.

For my WC this week, Rooney/Kompany/Given/Suarez/Simpson/A.Cole/Moses are all in for the long haul I think.

I went with Saha, he's decent when fit and he's a flat track bully. When he gets injured (inevitably) he gets shipped. Hopefully he lasts 3 or 4 games.
