As we all likely know by now, Fantasy Premier League (FPL) have granted unlimited transfers to reassess and fix our Fantasy outfits ahead of Gameweek two.

Given such freedom to pick and choose new teams as we please, Fantasy managers should be ready and willing to select a captain who will come out of the traps kicking and screaming.

David Silva topped affairs last week and fortunately did voters proud – the problem was that the Man City playmaker was one of only a small handful of players to score points in this low-scoring Gameweek. Here’s a few we think might top affairs come Saturday morning deadline…

Fernando Torres

There was something a little different about Fernando Torres’ display last Sunday. Despite failing to score in the nil-nil draw with Stoke, there was a Joie de vivre about El Nino’s game- he looked hungry and livelier than ever before in a Chelsea shirt and hinted at a return to the form of old.

A home tie against West Brom -a game in which Chelsea scored six goals last season- offer the perfect platform for Torres to spread his wings and fly. Fingers crossed it doesn’t prove a false dawn.

Similar Alternatives: Frank Lampard, Florent Malouda

Wayne Rooney

Rooney is already off the mark this season. Netting at West Brom from open play, Man United’s star forward carried forward his sparkling pre-season displays as the champions opened their account with a win.

A home game against Tottenham isn’t going to be the top fixture on paper to attract investment, but United are deadly at home- they dropped just two points at Old Tarafford all last season. Throw in his spot-kick duties in addition to his overall good form and we envisage there will be a fair few handing him the armband for the final fixture of the gameweek.

Similar Alternatives: Ashley Young, Luis Nani

Darren Bent

The Aston Villa hitman is one of those strikers you buy for a season and not just for Christmas – he’ll have lean weeks but, as the years have shown, will get you the points on a regular enough basis.

A home match with Blackburn Rovers tied into a belief that we think his chances of picking up bonus points could see an increase under the new EA Sports PPI Index, suggests Bent is looking a good proposition for Gameweek 2.

Similar Alternative: Charles N’Zogbia

Leighton Baines

Everton were the other side unable to take part in Gameweek 1. Fortunately, unlike Spurs, they won’t be facing the reigning champions- instead they play host to a QPR side still licking their wounds from a 4-0 battering at Loftus Road last weekend.

Despite a 8.0 price tag hanging round the neck of Leighton Baines, last season’s top-scoring FPL defender has shown he’s clearly capable of producing the same points returns as the majority of midfielders; 5 goals and 11 assists in 2010/11 attests to that.

His forays up and down the left-flank will prove vital for the Toffees and up against a recovering Kieron Dyer (or Bradley Orr), Baines will favour his chances. He’s also a dab hand at set-pieces.

Similar Alternatives: Louis Saha, Tim Cahill

Alternative Alternatives

Grant Holt – A kind first home fixture for a penalty-taking captain of this newly-promoted side.

Scott Sinclair – Remove the club captaincy and we’ve got a rinse and repeat case of the above.

Steven Fletcher – The Wolves striker has been all about goals when given time on the pitch. He now seems more secure and will be hosting Fulham.

The poll is now hot off the presses and awaiting your votes, as you can see we think the strikers are going to rule supreme this week – but who are we to know? The evidence of your accumulated clicking fingers will tell us in a couple days time exactly where favour lies.

most likely scenario for ppl choosing
    Torres over Aguero..(like me)
Prices unfreeze saturday afternoon and aguero continues to climb rapidly.. heading for a sure price rise by night..
    Torres plays and does nothing..
Out of panic we swap torres to aguero
Aguero comes off the bench for 1
2 key players in your team get injured.. You gotta remove one of em but now it'll be for a 4 point hit:(
in mean time vice captain rooney(course you captained torres) scores a brace

I'm already thinkin of going against my gut and taking out torres:(

Just what I'd do. You dont need both Cashley and Baines. Midfield a little lightweight, Sinclair COULD get some points. He is unproven at this level. I like to look at long term investment, not a game by game approach. Maybe just me!!!!

tevez and aquero would scare the life out of any defence - dzeko will surely play second fiddle even though he's the big man.

doubt tevez will play again though, heading off if he gets a bid but mancini is such a weak manager he may forgive and forget and play him.

i personally would leave him to rot in the reserves for what he has done on his £250k a week wages, but thats just me.

In terms of counting scores for GW1 or not, how about this:

    FPL offer us a proposition.

    Every person gets a choice.

    A. If they feel they did as well as they'd wanted and bucked the average they can keep their GW1 score and overall at the end of the season the score remains as usual, the sum of GWs 1-38

    B. If you got screwed over and your score is below par for your average, then you can choose to ignore GW1 score, and instead take the totak of Gameweeks 2-37 and multiply this total by 38/37
This gives you your average GW score for the whole season as your final GW1 score.

This way everyone chooses now which they'd prefer rather than deliberating over it on the eve of GW38 with a chip on their shoulder, everyone gets rewarded according to their ability and it settles disputes over when to start scoring.

Simple, FPL employ a very basic algorithm that will tell you your score, so say GW 15, FPL will give you your score for GW2-15 multiplied by 15/14.
It would come with an asterisk that says "this score is an average due to our GW1 balls up"
Yes scores would be slightly out but would even up more clearly as the season progressed

That, my friend, is the joy of this game! You put all your eggs in one basket, and fail, you'll end up miles behind the rest. Rival players values may go up, yours may go down. And then you'll have to spend precious points to make transfers to get rid of them. On the other hand, Drog, Torres and Malouda may all get bonus points, assist and score for eachother and win 6 nil. Then your laughing. But then what are tha chances of that happening? Decisions!!!!!!

Yep, my forward line is quite dear. Suarez, Torres & Rooney at the moment.

One big hitter in midfield with the rest cheapies (5m-7m)

Maybe Brown then for rotation with Simpson and considering Woodies injury record. Considered changing Hughes to Senderos?

Yeah considered it but think Hughes is more nailed on. Kind of need some element of consistency in there?!

Where can I see what bonus points have been awarded? I figured out where I can see the EA Sports Index (http://www.premierleague.com/page/PlayerPerformanceIndex) which shows me the actual rankings, but where can I see that converted to actual bonus points awarded, besides looking at individual players in teams on the FPL site?

could well start as Sturridge is still banned.

he was poor against stoke though so wouldnt be surprised if he was dropped.

No one can tell you 100% though, other than AVB..
