As we all likely know by now, Fantasy Premier League (FPL) have granted unlimited transfers to reassess and fix our Fantasy outfits ahead of Gameweek two.

Given such freedom to pick and choose new teams as we please, Fantasy managers should be ready and willing to select a captain who will come out of the traps kicking and screaming.

David Silva topped affairs last week and fortunately did voters proud – the problem was that the Man City playmaker was one of only a small handful of players to score points in this low-scoring Gameweek. Here’s a few we think might top affairs come Saturday morning deadline…

Fernando Torres

There was something a little different about Fernando Torres’ display last Sunday. Despite failing to score in the nil-nil draw with Stoke, there was a Joie de vivre about El Nino’s game- he looked hungry and livelier than ever before in a Chelsea shirt and hinted at a return to the form of old.

A home tie against West Brom -a game in which Chelsea scored six goals last season- offer the perfect platform for Torres to spread his wings and fly. Fingers crossed it doesn’t prove a false dawn.

Similar Alternatives: Frank Lampard, Florent Malouda

Wayne Rooney

Rooney is already off the mark this season. Netting at West Brom from open play, Man United’s star forward carried forward his sparkling pre-season displays as the champions opened their account with a win.

A home game against Tottenham isn’t going to be the top fixture on paper to attract investment, but United are deadly at home- they dropped just two points at Old Tarafford all last season. Throw in his spot-kick duties in addition to his overall good form and we envisage there will be a fair few handing him the armband for the final fixture of the gameweek.

Similar Alternatives: Ashley Young, Luis Nani

Darren Bent

The Aston Villa hitman is one of those strikers you buy for a season and not just for Christmas – he’ll have lean weeks but, as the years have shown, will get you the points on a regular enough basis.

A home match with Blackburn Rovers tied into a belief that we think his chances of picking up bonus points could see an increase under the new EA Sports PPI Index, suggests Bent is looking a good proposition for Gameweek 2.

Similar Alternative: Charles N’Zogbia

Leighton Baines

Everton were the other side unable to take part in Gameweek 1. Fortunately, unlike Spurs, they won’t be facing the reigning champions- instead they play host to a QPR side still licking their wounds from a 4-0 battering at Loftus Road last weekend.

Despite a 8.0 price tag hanging round the neck of Leighton Baines, last season’s top-scoring FPL defender has shown he’s clearly capable of producing the same points returns as the majority of midfielders; 5 goals and 11 assists in 2010/11 attests to that.

His forays up and down the left-flank will prove vital for the Toffees and up against a recovering Kieron Dyer (or Bradley Orr), Baines will favour his chances. He’s also a dab hand at set-pieces.

Similar Alternatives: Louis Saha, Tim Cahill

Alternative Alternatives

Grant Holt – A kind first home fixture for a penalty-taking captain of this newly-promoted side.

Scott Sinclair – Remove the club captaincy and we’ve got a rinse and repeat case of the above.

Steven Fletcher – The Wolves striker has been all about goals when given time on the pitch. He now seems more secure and will be hosting Fulham.

The poll is now hot off the presses and awaiting your votes, as you can see we think the strikers are going to rule supreme this week – but who are we to know? The evidence of your accumulated clicking fingers will tell us in a couple days time exactly where favour lies.

    My current team is

    Given Ruddy

A Cole Enrique Kompany Simpson Gabbidon

N Zog Osman Moses Silva N Dyer

    AJ Rooney Torres

have 2,5 m in bank which I reckon is good for flexibility when I want to upgrade my Midfield/Forwards (when MU and Arsenal's fixtures will get easier). I think my goalies and defenders are season keepers (at least until someone gets injured)

My main concern is Osman..I look at him as my Everton coverage for gameweeks 2-5..is he going to be a regular starter for those first games?

Really don't want to double up on Promoted side's defence (as I have Ruddy) so I thought Gabbidon was a better option despite his horrible own goal last weekwnd.

how come more people not going for ramsey now that cesc and nasri confirmed leaving? i know arsenal dont look that good but he's a proven player playing the attacking role for arsenal supplying RVP.. plus arsenal will always be an attacking side.. considerin him over taraabt/sinclair etc

I'm gonna tell you a little story:

There was a man who put Aguero in his team from day 1. All his friends said he wouldn't play. Even the Fantasy Football site itself said he was unlikely to play. So the man took the Kun out of his team and replaced him with Drogba, as everyone said he was more likely to play.

Then one day the games came along and Drogba was on the bench. He came on and got 1 point. The next day Aguero was on the bench. He came on and got 15 points (or something).

The moral of the story is go with your gut and don't follow the crowd. The crowd want you to fail so they can beat you.

    The End.

      True story.

At the end of the day (cliche alert) you make your own choices. Plenty come on and blame other people on here for their decisions but ultimately it is you that makes the final call. It is pretty tempting sometimes to follow the crowd (resisting Aguero is proving difficult) but you're right in your advice to go with your gut.
This site is brilliant at letting you get the really useful info like set piece takers, who will be starting etc. But the bandwagons are built by Renault - they always seem to break down pretty early.

Don't mean to be pedantic but to be honest I don't have a good feeling about the Zog either. But that might be me being a moron, who knows. For what it's worth, my midfield (for now) reads Silva // Larsson // Sinclair // Taarabt // Moses. Which is far too light for my liking, but I can't see the value until you get to the 9-10 range.

Any Spurs fans on here? I am really really tempted by getting on VDV early like last season, but I really think Spurs are an unknown quantity this year, no one expects them to do very well, but if Adebayor is to sign, I think they could do quite well, go figure.

Equally if Drogba moves there then he could do great. Not pushed otherwise, maybe VDV if they have a nice run of fixtures. Bale can kiss me hole after his 1,2,2,2,2,18,2,2,2,1,14 performance last season. Most frustrating fella on FPL (apart from Berbatov)

I think if we sign adebayor before the utd game then get bale as he is likely to provide many assits to him throughout the season.
if he doesnt then stick with vdv he will get the goals again make no mistake takes all our set-peices.

      Hi

      Spurs fan here.

As I understand it the Adebayor signing is pretty much done, so expect a slightly different dynamic up top. If it wasn't for the ridiculously tough fixtures I would have VDV in my side, despite the changes to personnel. however, with the tough fixtures, I am probably going to wait and see.

Many of VDVs goals were assisted by Crouchie so that will be something to consider. I do, however, expect VDV to justify his price tag over the season.

It's Suárez that's the problem for me. As the only top forward to be underpriced by FPL at the start of the season, he went straight into my GW1 team. But now that all of the Sky 4's most dependable offensive assets appear to be 11.0/12.0 strikers (Rooney, Torres, Agüero, van Persie), do you still select Suárez, and if so, in which combination?

      Option 1: Suárez + two 11.0/12.0 strikers
      Option 2: Suárez + one 11.0/12.0 striker + one 5.5-7.5 striker
      Option 3: two 11.0/12.0 strikers + one 5.5-7.5 striker (= no Suárez)

At the moment I am on option 3: - Torres, Rooney and Saha.

I am concerned about not having Suarez and know I will end up paying more for him. My issue is Chelsea. I don't even particularly fancy Torres to do that well, but he seems the only option at the moment as far as Chelsea's attack is concerned. Maybe I should be doubling up with Chelsea defence instead...

    Penny for your thoughts:

    sinclair, tarbaat/6.5m mid, sessegnon + 1m

    or

    nathan dyer, ashley young, tchoyi

(bearing in mind that without 1m i can't straight upgrade to rooney)

    a) Yaya and Enrique (I already have Silva)

    or

    b) N'Zogbia and Jagielka (I already have Bent)

tbh, neither. I wouldn't want to double up on midfielders from any team, and I wouldn't double up on Aston Villa - either bent or nzog for me (in which case it'd be bent)

Im starting to question Silva over Yaya

Last season there was nothing between their points . Silva couple more assists , yaya couple more goals. 1.5 M extra im not sure worth the extra.

How many more games do folks think Bosingwa has? I am hoping AVB will back Bos with a run of games. This is merely a hunch though. Any Chelsea fans with some insights?

If AVB is true to his mantra of attacking football then the unibrow should get lots of games for my money!

Really depends on when Ivanovic is fit again, and at 100%. I think AVB will keep Bos until he is 100%, I'd say he's probably got 1 more game in him, if that.

Anyone going for Nani over Young? He was far more effective at home than away last season. Or are people steering clear due to possible rotation with Valencia?

Valencia is out injured. I went for Nani over young but I have got rid of him now to go for the 'expensive forward line' plan

Valenci definately out injured then? I'd still prefer Nani to Young.
I have the expensive forward line,Aguero Torres and Suarez. And then Nani and Baines also just dont ask about the rest 😛

Yeah, he was supposed to play in a reserve match the other night with Fletcher but he was pulled out a couple nights before - not a good sign for him. Haha yeah I have Rooney, Aguero, Suarez, Tim Cahill, Ashley Cole and a mess surrounding it haha 😛
