As we all likely know by now, Fantasy Premier League (FPL) have granted unlimited transfers to reassess and fix our Fantasy outfits ahead of Gameweek two.

Given such freedom to pick and choose new teams as we please, Fantasy managers should be ready and willing to select a captain who will come out of the traps kicking and screaming.

David Silva topped affairs last week and fortunately did voters proud – the problem was that the Man City playmaker was one of only a small handful of players to score points in this low-scoring Gameweek. Here’s a few we think might top affairs come Saturday morning deadline…

Fernando Torres

There was something a little different about Fernando Torres’ display last Sunday. Despite failing to score in the nil-nil draw with Stoke, there was a Joie de vivre about El Nino’s game- he looked hungry and livelier than ever before in a Chelsea shirt and hinted at a return to the form of old.

A home tie against West Brom -a game in which Chelsea scored six goals last season- offer the perfect platform for Torres to spread his wings and fly. Fingers crossed it doesn’t prove a false dawn.

Similar Alternatives: Frank Lampard, Florent Malouda

Wayne Rooney

Rooney is already off the mark this season. Netting at West Brom from open play, Man United’s star forward carried forward his sparkling pre-season displays as the champions opened their account with a win.

A home game against Tottenham isn’t going to be the top fixture on paper to attract investment, but United are deadly at home- they dropped just two points at Old Tarafford all last season. Throw in his spot-kick duties in addition to his overall good form and we envisage there will be a fair few handing him the armband for the final fixture of the gameweek.

Similar Alternatives: Ashley Young, Luis Nani

Darren Bent

The Aston Villa hitman is one of those strikers you buy for a season and not just for Christmas – he’ll have lean weeks but, as the years have shown, will get you the points on a regular enough basis.

A home match with Blackburn Rovers tied into a belief that we think his chances of picking up bonus points could see an increase under the new EA Sports PPI Index, suggests Bent is looking a good proposition for Gameweek 2.

Similar Alternative: Charles N’Zogbia

Leighton Baines

Everton were the other side unable to take part in Gameweek 1. Fortunately, unlike Spurs, they won’t be facing the reigning champions- instead they play host to a QPR side still licking their wounds from a 4-0 battering at Loftus Road last weekend.

Despite a 8.0 price tag hanging round the neck of Leighton Baines, last season’s top-scoring FPL defender has shown he’s clearly capable of producing the same points returns as the majority of midfielders; 5 goals and 11 assists in 2010/11 attests to that.

His forays up and down the left-flank will prove vital for the Toffees and up against a recovering Kieron Dyer (or Bradley Orr), Baines will favour his chances. He’s also a dab hand at set-pieces.

Similar Alternatives: Louis Saha, Tim Cahill

Alternative Alternatives

Grant Holt – A kind first home fixture for a penalty-taking captain of this newly-promoted side.

Scott Sinclair – Remove the club captaincy and we’ve got a rinse and repeat case of the above.

Steven Fletcher – The Wolves striker has been all about goals when given time on the pitch. He now seems more secure and will be hosting Fulham.

The poll is now hot off the presses and awaiting your votes, as you can see we think the strikers are going to rule supreme this week – but who are we to know? The evidence of your accumulated clicking fingers will tell us in a couple days time exactly where favour lies.

I've been tinkering for ages. Finally came up with:

    Schwarzer Vorm
Kompany Simpson Enrique Brown de Laet
    N’Zog Malouda Cahill Jarvis Sinclair
    Rooney Zamora Suarez

Any glaring omissions / problems? I know there's a lack of Man City coverage, but plan to bring back in for gw4.

But sometimes when one stares at things for ages, the obvious escapes one, so please let me know what you think!

    Hello!

I made a question of price rises/falls couple of hours ago, but then had to go so wasn't around to thanks for several answers - thanks guys!

This was one answer, does it really work this way?

Price rises are the same across the board – ignoring protection etc… and are not dependent on how many initially own the player.

So even if 500000 people own one player, it will take the same number of net transfers in to cause a price rise of 0.1 than for a player owned by just 50 people. (assume around 35K at start of season dropping to 20K by end of season)

However, price falls are based on the ownership. Hence a player owned by 500000 will need a hefty transfer out to drop by 0.1 while the 50 player would only need a few…

    Hope that helps

Clichy could always be replaced with Kolarov for the odd game.

I don't fancy Liverpool to keep many cleanies (Enrique)

Aguero could be started from the bench and we don't know what's happening with Tevez yet.

I'd say it's 'ok' but would look to making a few changes.

Don't understand the love for Baines, Arteta and Saha are both fit, there's a big chance he won't be on pens and will share set pieces, that's a lot of money on a defender for a team who are more than capable of conceding more often than not.

In the past if Cahill has played, Baines has scored better... presumably due to him heading in Baines' crosses.

A decent chance Baines will take penalties from the off, but I'm thinking more his assists and cleanies for the next 4 games.

Saha is back which means Cahill may have to play more in midfield as opposed to as a striker which takes away from his attacking potential.

Cahill will get forward but he will also have defensive responsibility if Moyes goes with Saha up top.

People are jumping on Baines off the back of last year when Arteta was injured a fair bit, Everton are at full strength now, definitely a wait and see I reckon until you see if his influence is worth the money when you can get City defenders much cheaper.

    Bent Rooney Torres

Please tell me what you think. I am not sure about De Laet but can you recommend a better 4.0 def (bar Simpson of course). Also what do you think of Torres and captaining him? I know he is leading the captain poll but can you rely on him?

    HELP WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED

Some will say 'way too defence heavy' but mine is almost the same. I see Baines and Cole scoring more than midfielders for the same price and I am going with both too. Also means you don't have to stress about rotation.
I think you have managed a nice balance.

I think the basic problem is as follows. I want attacking coverage from all of:

    Man Utd
    Man City
    Liverpool
    Chelsea

plus Villa, Fulham, Wolves, Everton for fixtures

Anybody suggest any cheap yet effective attacking coverage from any of those teams?

    Evening guys,

    Given (Ruddy)
Baines - Brown - Cole (Simpson, Gabbidon)
    N'Zogbia - O'Hara - Silva - Sinclair (Moses)
    Rooney - Torres (Holt)

0,5m in the bank. Could upgrade O'hara to Sessegnon

Balanced enough? Gabbidon is just there because someday and somehow he is going to repay me for what he did in gw1.

Ok this week is driving me insane !!! Too many changes to be made...

Which is better a) or b) ... a) has the best credentials defensively wise but is it worth sacrificing 2 defenders who probably will get clean sheets and maybe an assist between them for 2 defenders that will be star defenders for their team this Season ???

    a) Ruddy, Baines, Cashley, Johnson (De Laet and Enrique)
N'Zogbia, Taarabt, Sinclair (v), Van der Vaart (Eagles)
    Holt, Torres (c), Suarez
    b) Ruddy, Johnson, Brown, Enrique, (De Laet and Taylor)
Van der Vaart, Sinclair, Taarabt, Lampard (c) (Eagles)
Saha, Suarez (or Bent...aaaarrrrggghhh the madness) Torres (v)

    Driving me nuts !!! :0)

Chelsea fan hence praying for some divine intervention to stop the rot, as for VDV just think with Utd's depleted defence he'll get a lot of room around the box, free kicks etc :0)

As for Baines 8m overpriced Cole better option plus there is even some better options in the 4.5m/5m bracket. Even the 6m bracket is better in my opinion.
