The Gameweek Captain Poll is now open and sitting proudly in the middle column of your homepage.

While last week’s effort saw Chelsea’s Fernando Torres run away with the majority vote, only to fall flat yet again, this week’s poll already looks a far more intriguing affair.

We’ve just over 300 votes in already and the top rankings look keenly contested. Torres, despite failing once again to find the net against the Baggies, is once more a front runner with the Norwich defence due at the Bridge this weekend. The Spaniard is just one of four strikers currently leading the pack.

Liverpool’s Luis Suarez will surely get more than 19 minutes to inflict damage on an obliging Bolton defence at Anfield, while Wayne Rooney is another two-in-two striker with a home fixture this weekend. The ravaged Arsenal line-up looks likely to be patched once again – Rooney could be well placed to capitalise.

It’s Darren Bent who leads the way right now, though – but only just. He’ll be setting his sights on a Wolves defence at Villa Park on Saturday, although Mick McCarthy’s side will arrive with consecutive wins and just one goal against. Bent won’t find it easy then, but is currently the armband favourite off the back of a goal and an assist, in addition to Fantasy Premier League bonus, in last weekend’s 3-1 win over Blackburn.

Below this quartet we find Frank Lampard hovering, an option again boosted by the fact that Chelsea will be widely expected to notch at least a couple against Paul Lambert’s back-four. Likewise, Florent Malouda is an option currently garnering votes. David Silva is already being backed to prolong his sparkling start to the season, despite a testing trip to White Hart Lane, while a few are backing Victor Moses to recover from a knock to take the fight to QPR at the DW Stadium.

An interesting array of poll options, without a clear leader. Cast your vote at some point over the week and throw in your early opinions right here.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    my front three is

    bent saha torres

My current plan is to keep torres in this week for norwich, but to replace him with either aguero or rooney in gameweek 4

so this gameweek, I think putting in a west brom striker would be a smart decision seeing as their fixtures are great, should I put in long or odemwinge? this would be replacing saha as he was a silly
    striker to put in

Very tempted to go for two out of Nasri, Silva and Dzeko. Nas in particular is gonna be very tempting when he's starting, should be a more consistent goal threat than Silva despite Silva's start to the season.

    Someone on twitter:

Fenerbahce being expelled from Europe means the team ranked highest take their place - this means Arsenal are now in Europe no matter what.

Actually, because Arsenal would go into the EL automatically it would be Liverpool taking their CL place. Forgot about the EL, ha.

This is my understanding - if Arsenal win, Liverpool are in the EL cause 5 teams from the same nation can't be in the CL If Arsenal lose tonight there will be an English slot available in the CL and Liverpool have the highest co-efficient meaning they'd get it.

Surely it would just be the next best Turkish team? 😕

It's a load of rubbish, complete rubbish. If any English team was going to make it, it would be Arsenal if they lose tonight, then Spurs, not Liverpool owing to their league position.

My guess is that the space will remain open and there will be one less team in the comp.

Mancini has apparently been playing yaya in a holding midfield role. If nasri plays, he'll likely be on the wing with Milner on the opposing wing and Silva in the center.

but the nasri transfer means Yaya is more likely to play deep...that's my theory anyway

salman...in general i like to concentrate my transfers on injured players...i'm not sure if i'd be in such a rush to transfer Yaya...I do think N'Zog is better if that helps

I expect Malouda will be sold.

Fairly old-ish and they will be able to get some sort of fee and keep the likes of Kalou (cheaper, but worse sure) as back-up.

                  Left-footed, plays as a left-back for Porto.

Usually played as left-sided wingback/midfielder in front of a back three for Uruguay, but more recently has been played as a more out-and-out left-sided midfielder.

His namesake (in the national side), Maxi Pereira, plays at right-back.

Slack journalism, but then there's a lot of it about, especially when it comes to South/Central American football. Was amused to read, in a Times Sport editorial no less, that Javier Hernandez was going to be rested for the first few games of this season (pre-headergate) after his involvement in the Copa America.

He played a total of zero games in that tournament, along with most of the Mexican first XI. Journos.

Can't believe I missed a trick, could have sold Larsson for Silva but I didn't think I had enough as I thought N'Zog was the only one I could sell to get him in and I wanted to keep him. Now I'm 0.1 short.

one week last year I bought Evatt instead of Crainey...couldn't understand why I was £0.1m short in cash...then the next week (a bit drunk) I bought Tevez and accidentally sold the wrong striker...the whole season was a nightmare for me anyway

I think if you play in a FIFA/UEFA tournament at any youth level it does, but not qualifying/friendlies.

due to fenerbahce expulsion from the champions league, their place will go to the club with the highest coeefficient ranking based on country and titles won, which happenes to be liverpool

however one country cannot have more than 4 teams in champs league
