Arsenal yesterday announced the signing of Chu Young Park from AS Monaco for a fee in the region of £3m.

The two-year deal has caused much controversy back in France- twenty-six year old Park was on the verge of a switch to champions Lille at the weekend but a last-minute change of mind means he will now join up at the Emirates, subject to a formal registration process.

The Statistics

His performances for South Korea U20 team saw Park named Asian Young Player of 2004 and his professional club career began the following season with a stint at FC Seoul in South Korea’s K League. He played three full campaigns there, making 96 appearances in all competitions and returned 35 goals and 10 assists, though a foot injury and loss of form hampered much of his latter time.

Park then moved to AS Monaco in September of the 2008-09 campaign. The forward spent three injury-free seasons in Ligue 1, playing 103 games in all competitions for Monaco, scoring 26 goals and picking up 8 assists.

The Prospects

Arsène Wenger was happy with the capture, saying yesterday:

“We are delighted to have signed Chu. He will add true quality to our attacking forces and will be a valuable addition to the squad.”

Similar to new signing Gervinho, Park will bring versatility to the Gunners front line. He can play on either flank or through the middle, has both pace and height (he’s 6 foot) and, as ever with Wenger’s forward men, is
technically very gifted .

With Arsenal going through a tumultuous period of transition, it’s too early to second-guess Park’s chances of a first-team place in the attacking midfield positions. Certainly, he’s by no means a nailed-on starter but at present, aside from maybe Theo Walcott down the right, are there any real certainties in those three slots behind Robin Van Persie? Gervinho has played just one league game and could, upon return from suspension, make the left wing his own, though Park looks just as capable.

Where the South Korean differs from the likes of Andrei Arshavin and the outgoing Nicklas Bendtner, however, is in work-rate; in this respect, he is not dissimilar to compatriot Ji-Sung Park at Man United and his dynamism and willingness for the battle will offer the Gunners more bite in the vital attacking third. Whether he’ll get the chance, only time will tell.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

as ever with Wenger’s forward men, [Chu Young] is technically very gifted.

You must class Walcott and Gervinho as midfielders then. 😉

don't like Nani what so ever,
and i feel Anderson if gunna be as good as any other player within the 7.5< price range, which makes his value unbeatable

            fair call,
so perhaps Evra? for some Man United defense?
i also think with the new Assist/ Bonus point system
a player as creative as baines, although expensive will continuely poll well.

however, i am willing to concede that an 8million dollar defender is a bit of a luxury my team can't afford, but i can see him picking up bonus points 1 every three games as well as an assist every 5, or so and a goal every 8 or so..
and he'll be, with bosingwa the defenders that continuely stand out.

thanks again ICJoker i am begining to lead towards a 3-4-3...
however problems arise with the then immediate lack of ability in my back 3... Shawcross/Enrique/Bosinga....

Yep. He was mean't to be the next big thing when he came for a club record €16m - last season Ajax were trying to offload him to get him off the wage bill, but from the end of last season and the beginning of this he has got much better. He is a small winger, good dribbler but all left foot.

No basis for the rumour I think. No mention of it in NL

Nasri is handy no doubt, but I honestly thought Silva looked far more dangerous goal wise narrowly missing multiple chances.

    Any Saha owners around?

It doesn’t look like his price will fall again, and he said on Twitter the other day that he should be back for the Villa game. I want to swap him for Suarez eventually, but tempted to keep him for a couple of games as he has better fixtures rather than taking a 4 point hit to switch this week. What do you reckon?

Does anybody know if De Laet is due to rise soon?

I had brought in R Taylor in as an upgrade to Simpson, from which I gained a rise of 0.1m but now it looks likely that both R Taylor and Simpson are under threat from Santon. I'm thinking of surrendering the 0.1m rise, because I suppose R Taylor ownership will be falling soon and bring in De Laet instead, who may be rising from 4.0 to 4.1. Is this a good idea?

I would get Suarez and Petrov. Simply because Suarez is playing well and he will get a couple of goals, not too sure about Best. Even though Walcott has good fixtures, but Petrov is playing well too to give some assists.

You wouldn't want to miss out on Suarez because he is relatively cheap and he will score goals and he has high ownership.

Well he's scored the last 2 games, so I'd suggest that he's already twice as good as Torres. Making him £100mil. Fantasy football's evaluation of 9.0 appears to be pretty generous I'd say.

Retrieved from the previous thread: The Bundesliga’s final transfer list has been published at midday (German time). Only those players whose names have been placed on the list by their clubs are allowed to move by the end of today. As you can see, there is no Franck Ribéry, no Papiss Demba Cissé (Freiburg) and no Patrick Helmes (Wolfsburg) on the list, so they can't now move in this transfer window despite recent British media speculation.

    http://www.bundesliga.de/media/native/autosync/55-11-12.pdf

New on the list: Per Mertesacker (Arsenal deal concluded) and Guy Demel of Hamburger SV, who is a target for Aston Villa. As a Villa fan, this makes me deeply depressed, as he’s overpriced (€2 million in salary) and over the hill.

Erm, after much heated debate, I'll have to take all this back - it seems that players can't move to another Bundesliga club if they're not on the list, but can move abroad if the league to which they're moving doesn't have a midday transfer list.

The English Premier League doesn't have such a rule, so nothing is over yet, it appears...

But, as a rule, if German clubs are prepared to sell a player, they'll put him on this list. Hence the fact that Mertesacker, Elia etc. are on the list, despite the fact that they're moving abroad.
