Fulham snapped up Costa Rican sensation Bryan Ruiz from FC Twente on a four year contract before last night’s transfer deadline. The deal is thought to be in the region of £10m and represents a significant coup for Martin Jol -the twenty-six year old is a class act and should bolster the Fulham first-team significantly.

Despite some last-minute interest from the likes of Newcastle, the player admitted Jol was a major factor in his decision to sign for the Cottagers:

“I’m really happy to be joining Fulham Football Club and playing under Martin Jol who is a manager I admire from his time managing in Holland for Ajax. I chose to come to Fulham because it feels more personal than other clubs I have visit

The Statistics

Ruiz’s career began as an eighteen year old in his native country, playing 83 times and scoring 24 goals for Alajuelense, before moving to Belgian club KAA Genk. Ruiz stayed there for three seasons, bagging 26 goals in 79 games and his performances caught the eye of Steve McLaren, the then-manager of FC Twente.

McLaren snapped up the player for a mere 5m Euros in 2009 and the player’s goals repaid his manager’s faith, as he fired Twente to their first ever Eredivisie title under the guidance of the former England boss. It’s in Holland that Ruiz –nicknamed “The Weasel”- developed into a real top-class talent; 61 games brought 39 goals and 20 assists, indicating a keen eye for goal in addition to a real creative edge to his play.

The Prospects

There’s little doubt Ruiz arrives at the Cottage as a key player for Martin Jol’s side. A left-footer, he will offer Fulham options both on the wing and as a forward in the new manager’s preferred 4-4-2. Jol is desperate for a goalscorer and it may well be he sees Ruiz as a forward, someone he can play alongside Bobby Zamora; Fulham have scored just one goal in their first three Premier League games under Jol and more firepower is essential.

Alternatively, it would also give Jol the option of keeping Clint Dempsey as a forward- the American has impressed in Europe when played up front and scored the club’s late consolation at Newcastle on Sunday afternoon.

Ruiz is highly regarded across Europe and has many strengths to his game. He possesses a fantastic technique as well as an ability to regularly find the net and, standing at 6 foot 2, is also great in the air.

The ideal scenario for Fantasy managers is for the player to be classified as a FPL midfielder (around 7.5 or 8.0 could be expected) with Jol then opting to field him as a forward. With this type of skill in his locker, he would be a great out-of-position proposition and has the class to spark Fulham’s league campaign into life.

I personally think Ruiz will definitely be classed as a Striker, around 7.5-8m.

Have seen a lot of him in NL and he's a very good player. Think he will become a favorite at Fulham very quickly.

Can someone please post a link to a good price change website, I have been using Crack the code on http://www.fiso.co.uk but I'm not keen on this seasons new look website and would like to find one easier to use (about to search in the members area of this website to see if there is something worth using).

    Any recommendations?

I like the new look Fiso site. Much easier to use. However, I'm not sure I trust its accuracy?!?
Its showing that 45000 peoplpe have transferred Dzeko OUT today..
That cant be right , can it ??

I'm finding it harder to use - according to what I read, 10 or the 12 most trasnfered out players are from Arsenal!

Doesn't make any sense to me this season but I'm struggling to find another site - FPL site has taken away the option of sorting transfers page by price hcanges as well which isn;t helping.

        Anyone know a good site?

I'm on a WC and have shifted Baines out for now. Hoping he drops to 7.9 before the deadline and I'll get him back in again (but I'll get him back even if he doesn't). Especially now with Arteta gone, he's really looking good for points, even if he is expensive.

Wish people would stop saying it's "too late" to wildcard - that's bo**ocks.

It may be preferable to hit the WC early in view of price changes but it's by no means essential. The tactic of playing a WC in an international break simply to bring your team value up is massively overrated. If you need to use it because your team's in a mess, then use it and don't feel hamstrung simply because you've missed some price rises.

It was more given his situation.
Team he's got will be fine with 1 or 2 switches, but if he had asked about pulling the trigger on Monday there would've been a lot more reason to do so.

I wouldnt say its over rated. My team is now already 101.4 value and would think it will easy get to 101.6 possibly even up to 101.8 by the next GW.

Fair point, but clearly better to make the call early so you can also benefit from some prices rises where possible. Intl breaks always a good time and many FPL players will pull the WC trigger after GW7 I suspect.

I agree with this. It should be obvious to anyone with any common sense that the most important thing about a wildcard is to use at the moment in the season where you think the coming weeks will be unfruitful for the team that you have. And not:

          a) Because you've scored few points in recent weeks.
          b) Because you want to improve your team value.

There will be some moment in the season where your team is very probable to score well below the average throughout the game in the coming weeks, and if you use it at another time, then more fool you (in my opinion.)

Not really, it's wise that they wait until the end of transfer window before adding him. They can only judge his full value to the team (and therefore price) when they know who exactly they'll be competing with for a place.

For example, if Spurs had signed two top strikers yesterday Adebayor's value would have been lower. Now that they know he won't have much completion for a place with Crouch gone and only Defoe and Pav in his way, I think he'll come in at quite a high price.

GuyK, none of the signings from outside the Prem have been added yet, and Ade wasn't in FPL at all, so they must still be crunching the numbers to assess their starting prices.

They'll be there long before the next GW, have faith.

Well, there are some decent teams in La Liga beyond Barca and Real Madrid, but it's quite rubbish how they are the only teams that stand a chance of winning the league. In the EPL at least there are 3 teams that could win it and the next team is unlikely to be too many points behind.

I used both my WCs within a few weeks of each other last season and it worked a treat, mainly due to DGWs. If there's another glut of DGWs again this year, those who have used their WC early may wish they hadn't.. although that will depend on whether they've gained significantly by using it now.

Companies books always look good when they are about to float or issue new shares. Things simply get moved about a bit. Though they do usually show a decent operating profit.

Why has there not been a Scout Reports For Adebayor? And don't give me BS like its because he is not in the game!, Ruiz is not in the game, neither is Mertasacker, Andre Santos, Albert Arusat! And yet they do Scout Reports on them and not Adebayor!

Wow...I can't believe how absurd this comment is...Can you seriously not think of a better reason to moan about it? I mean seriously...racist? Really? You really think that?

By that analogy you would then assume FPL are racist too for not adding him. And really...if you feel so strongly about it...then why are you even commenting...just go away and stop playing the game...simple...

if you know his history and what he can do, you can say the same about Arteta and Parker? :S Yet you did a Scout Report on them two, so that logic fails.

You cant blame people for being curious when his transfer was done last week and they see other prem players getting scout reports and getting the feeling like they have completey forgotten that Adebayor has moved.

Also why have Lukaku & Mata been added to FPL, when Adebayor signed BEFORE BOTH of them.

The fact is it was my decision. We had a report written yesterday but it was a week after the move and therefore didn't apply to a move on transfer deadline day. I felt, by posting it, it would look like filler and, with so many other reports to post, I decided to shelve it and focus on transfers finalised on the day. Had he been an unknown player, I may have considered it further.

Keep tabs on the Odemwingie setback up to the next deadline. If Odem looks like he'll be a factor, I would say the security of Brunt (although he was taken off in the last game) should be worth the extra 0.5.

If Odem seems to be struggling, Tcyhoi is a nice pick for the coming weeks; I think West Brom should return a decent enough goal tally over that time.

United & City attackers are needed, judging by the way both have started. But Arsenal's fixtures are simply a thing of beauty. This is very annoying. Just give us £5M more FPL, to make up for the crap website.

It's a team based on the last 3 weeks scores. Look ahead rather than back i'd say. I'd bank on Walcott or RvP rather than Arteta and i personally think Dzeko will be rotated sometime very soon.

true - but arteta and dzeko are cheap for Arsenal/Man City attacking options - and dzeko can be transferred out if that does happen.

Agree Dzeko/Rooney/Nasri and arguably mata are knee jerk but you want access to Man c/Chelsea/Man utd and Arsenal attacks surely?

Brunt is my fixture bet, also considered cabaye.

R Johnson or Baines I would ideally like but decided to go with Mata instead

But so far, playing by the fixtures has gotten me nothing but low scores. These players seem to be the ones who I can rely on on returning decent points every week.

Otherwise, which players should I consider?

anyone else thinking Etherington at 6.5 mill is a good shout now Crouchy is on board?
Or will Crouchy just do a load of knock-downs to Jones and therefore Jones a better option?

Was wondering about this myself. RVP does have a knack of looking like an unconfident penalty taker when he misses, though just going from memory I think his record is pretty good.

Certainly don't bring in Rosicky. Ramsey has been unimpressive so far. Yossi is a massive rotation risk. Arteta should start every game, but yet to be seen how he'll settle into the new team.

I am frustrated that Wenger is now married to 4-3-3.

All of his success has been 4-4-2.

RVP is much better as a second striker dropping into the whole a la Bergkamp.

Imagine Walcott as an out and out striker with RVP supporting.

          Gervinho/Park/Benayoun/Arshavin/Rosicky/Arteta on the wings

          Arteta/Wilshere/Ramsey/Song/Frimpong in central Midfield.

I know I have doubled up on Arteta but he could play either.
