Sunderland have not had the best of starts to the league season. Despite bringing in ten new players during the summer, Steve Bruce’s side have just two points and one goal to show for their endeavours so far. The Black Cats boss therefore moved to address this yesterday by snapping up Nicklas Bendtner on a season-long loan.

Bruce is no stranger to Bendtner- he has previously taken the player on loan when in charge of Birmingham City and it was there that the big Dane had his most successful season to date. The club’s assistant boss Eric Black also worked with Bendtner at St Andrews and his statement last night certainly suggests he knows exactly how to handle a player famous for his self-belief:

We’re absolutely delighted to welcome Nicklas, who is an established Barclays Premier League player now. Nicklas had a big impact on our season at Birmingham when he arrived as a youngster and I’m sure he’ll do the same again. He’s a big, physical lad with a good touch, good movement and he’ll certainly bring something to the party.

I’m sure he’ll be looking to come here and prove to the supporters how good a player he is. He probably has more chance of playing first-team football here, and if he grasps it there’s no reason why he can’t be a top, top player.

The Stats

Born and raised in Denmark but a product of the Arsenal academy from his teenage years, Bendtner had been with Arsenal for seven years until now.

His first true action came in the 2006/07 season when Arsene Wenger loaned him out to Championship side Birmingham City for the season which started to blossom the self-belief that we know all know too well by now.

He has remained at The Emirates ever since and turned out 98 times for the Gunners in the four seasons that followed, scoring 22 goals. Mainly accustomed to being back-up to the likes of Robin Van Persie, the Great Dane made well over half of those appearances from the bench.

The Prospects

Not short on self-confidence, Bendtner will undoubtedly believe that he will be an unprecedented success while with Sunderland.

Priced rather nicely at just 6.4 (cheaper than current striker Asamoah Gyan) in the Fantasy Premier League he will provide a promising option for when Fantasy Managers want to back the Sunderland offense.

Despite all the bluster, he is a talented striker who can play with the ball at his feet as much as in the air. Inconsistency has always been an issue but with the support of the Sunderland midfield he’ll likely be dished up more than a few chances. Fantasy Managers won’t want another Burnley on our hands again.

The move certainly brings Stephane Sessegnon’s role in the Sunderland XI into question. Bruce has been playing him behind Gyan in a 4-4-1-1, but with one goal in their four games in all competitions, a move back to 4-4-2 could be in the manager’s thinking. Such a scenario would certainly dim Sessegnon’s Fantasy appeal as an out-of-position player, with the Black Cats boss playing Bendtner alongside Gyan up front as he looks to boost the Black Cats firepower.

Nah, it's an either/or option really, both look to do very well but it'll just vary from week to week I expect. Last match Silva could have scored a couple which would have changed the outlook completely, Nasri may have a similar week next time.

I expect Silva to benefit more if Dzeko is rotated, the crosses from the wings will be less effective to Suarez/Tevez but the silky through-balls from Silva will work getting to their feet.

I just gave my view on it above - With Dzeko playing I'd expect Nasri to benefit more with the crosses from the wings, if Aguero/Tevez are on I'd expect Silva's through balls to work more effectively. Silva being more central may mean he sneaks the odd extra goal too. Not a lot in it though.

Don't do it! Your first team looks fine...some minor tweaking here and there could occur but not at this stage...only later. Watch the injury list and get back to this option if need be...

If you really wanted to tweak right now then Moses may be the only one to look at...You're also looking to swap out Suarez (confirmed starter and showing form) to Arteta (new to a team and not sure of position)...seems silly to me...and swapping Silva to Nasri maybe...not worth it right now...

It would seem the most logical choice...Moses though could be on the verge on hitting goals in...but Wigan have difficult fixtures and current results for Moses suggest he probably should go...Dyer is a favourite on here and is someone I've gone for...cheap and somehow pulled 3 BPs from a game. There are other options around the 5mil mark but I can't tell you which seem better than Dyer...time will tell.

So yes...Moses to Dyer does seem viable...but again, would you not want to wait a while to see if injuries force your hand in other areas of your team. You do still have some time to wait before the next gameweek (but I know the temptation in this game so I don't blame you for wanting to sell or play wildcard)..

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Wild Card seems excessive. Just a couple of must changes for me.

Torres has to go, you can replace him with pretty much anyone you wish. Don't quite see the sense in having Ferguson in Midfield and then keeping 2.5mil, would look to upgrade to at least someone who will play.

On a personal note I'm not a fan of Dempsey when not OOP, particulalry for this seasons price, I would consider using some of that spare cash to upgrade.

Oh and while we're guessing - Seattle?

I have made my two free transfers this week, but have the following 3 culprits still in mf:

    Sinclair (6.0), Moses (5.0), Surman (4.5)

Is there any move from those worth making for a hit (where I'd pick the 4 points back over the next few gws)? Or should I stick?

Who the hell wrote this article?

"... he is a talented striker who can play with the ball at his feet as much as in the air."

No he is just as sh*t with the ball at his feet as he is in the air.

He will have the odd gw where he gets 2 goals. Everyone will transfer him in and then they will endure the continous stream of easy chances he misses. AW has gave him a silly number of chances of the year. The truth is he's rubbish.

Tell me when in the next 5 GW's Liv are gonna keep a CS and then we'll discuss again. I was in those kind of traps in the past with that Konchesky lad. If the player is not keeping CS's why is important for who he plays. And he has Bosingwa and Santon as other relative expensive defenders already. So no need for 3 expensive defenders. I like the punts of Bos and Santon that's why I said sell Enrique.

          Zing 🙂
