Fantasy managers will be reeling from this morning’s news that Leighton Baines has withdrawn from the England squad with a hamstring injury picked up in training.

The FA have released a statement on the matter, saying only:

“Leighton Baines has returned to Everton, having sustained an injury in training on Sunday. Baines has been ruled out of England’s Euro 2012 qualifier with Wales on Tuesday evening, and is now with his club for further treatment. No replacement has been called into the squad.”

Last season’s top-scoring Fantasy Premier League (FPL) defender must be considered a major doubt for Everton’s weekend fixture at home to Aston Villa, then. With another Goodison showdown the following week against Wigan, his 236K Fantasy owners would have been anticipating some decent returns, particularly with the left-back on set-pieces and penalties in light of Mikel Arteta’s departure to Arsenal.

It’s a tricky one- Baines’ price (8.0) takes up a large chunk of our early-season budgets and there’s certainly no point in having him benched if he proves to be unavailable for those upcoming fixtures. Until the club assess the player and make any official statement, though, it’s a case of “wait and see” right now for his Fantasy owners- the potential is clearly there for Baines is Gameweeks 4 and 5 and to bail out now before any confirmation by David Moyes would be folly.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Hold off on the WC, particularly as you've missed out on any potential cash gain.

We still don't know who is 'good' to own this year amoung the cheapies. We only know that Rooney, Young, Dzeko, Nasri and co. are good options, but it will take a few more weeks of data before we are clear on the Taarabt's and Sinclair's of this world.

Once we know all that, then it will be easier to make a decent all-round squad.

People have made their teams unbalanced by putting him in and they know it, hence the massive interest when it seems like it is not going to work out.

Has anyone heard anything more from FPL about the assists, specifically why Fletcher got no assist in GW1, but Rooney got an assist in GW3, even though the goals came about in identical fashion with two opposing players touching the ball in between the 'assister' and the goal scorer.

I have sent two emails, with no reply for either, which is common when FPL know that they have no explanation for their actions.

Where are the hamstring reports coming from? No mention of it in England press release.

Reading twitter it's oftne referred to as "a knock" and "not thought to be serious".

Will Osmans role at Everton be changed with Arteta gone and Baines out for a bit? I got him in when i saw Evertons fixtures but was unsure of his role and couldn't afford any other decent Everton midfielder (Barkley hadn't even played up this point). Lost value on him but still worth keeping for their fixtures?

I'm keeping T Cahill for the next two and then binning him. You may as well do the same for Osman, it's only a small loss at the end of the day.

Best is dump and only scores in spurts, (hattrick last season and then nothing for ages after).

Other than that, I think your team is very solid.

Is Ward at threat of rotation? Ok, Wolves have had a good start, but I think only R Johnson is completely nailed on, since Berra could rotate with Craddock, and the full-backs are any two from Elokobi, Ward, Stearman and Zubar. Not sure on Foley either, didn't he play in midfield last season, but that was probably due to injuries, so maybe he could play at full-back too.

That's just it, Best is an ugly bastard and doesn't make your team more attractive at all!

Why is De Laet on the bench when he is home to West Brom? Surely these are the kinds of games that you would WANT to play him...

      Midfield too weak.

      Sessegnon or Sinclair to Arteta.

It's obvious as you have Adam (injured, at Stoke), Sinclair, Sess & your whole bench play against top teams. Therefore I can see lots of 2pts.

Want to get some thoughts on some mid's nobody seems to be mentioning.

Bale - pure fantasy gold last season. Spurs have had 2 v tough games and ppl forget all about him? With Parker strengthening the midfield and Adebayor giving them an edge up front I think he could be in for a blinder. Esp with VDV out and Spurs love of playing on the counter (So not too worried about fixtures). Surely a reasonable alternative to Arteta?

SWP? A risk for sure given his lack of gametime in recent years but we know which end of the park he'll be operating at and with QPRs new additions, might he be an alternative to Jarvis, Brunt, Cabaye etc? He just came to my attention as I annoyingly had 6.4 to spend on a MF and I wanted Taarabt!

    Team at the mo:

    Given (Vorm)
Bosingwa. J Enrique. Johnson. (DeLaet Simpson)
Nasri. Walcott. Jarvis. Bale. (N Dyer)
    Suarez. Rooney. Dzeko

Can't afford to get RVP in, but happier with Walcott as my Arsenal coverage ahead of Arteta. Also gets me Spurs coverage without sacrificing one of the 'holy trinity' just yet. Lack of Chelsea is a problem, but I don't like their attacking options at the mo. Going to see how Mata does before getting him in.

    Thoughts?

Bale was NOT fantasy gold last season. He had a couple of great games, and a lot of crap. Certainly nothing to justify the player of the year award!
He has done nothing of note yet either.

SWP has no form, and for .1 less you can have Taarabt, who is on more set pieces etc.

Rest of the team looks good imo.

These turds are not being mentioned for a reason.

Firstly, in no way at all was Bale Fantasy Gold last season. He would score big one week, and then do nothing for months, and I mean literally nothing!

His season total of 7 goals and 3 assists is w*nk, considering he had 2 goals after GW2, so only 5 goals and 3 assists in the last 36 weeks, and he got 2 goals and an assist in the home game v Blackburn, so if you didn't have him for that match, he got 3 goals and 2 assists in the other 35 games! Sheesh, I've put that one to bed! 🙂

However, he COULD still turn out ok, he has the potential to be a good option in the future as he has talent, but I am merely pointing out that he was w*nk as a Fantasy option last season.

SWP is again too risky to go with until we see more about his role, and how nailed on he will be. Look at people like Stephen Ireland, they finally leave a big/rich club where they were benched at, and then move to a smaller team so that they can get regular football, and then you find out that they were benched at the big/rich club for a reason.

Again, SWP could turn out ok, but it's best to wait on him.

Joe Cole is another player that you can add to the Stephen Ireland group.

Martin Petrov is an example of a player that has done fairly well moving to a smaller club.

So basically we don't know which group SWP will fall into yet, so it's safe to wait. You won't lose out to rivals if you don't pick SWP, it's not like SWP scores 2 goals in his next match, and you find that half your mini-league has him!

But if you DO pick him, and SWP does f*ck all in his next match, then only YOU lose out, while your rivals have somebody more reliable that does something.

Hmmmm, didnt look at the numbers but must have had Bale for the right games then last year. Still fancy him over Arteta, whose fantasy returns get lower every season.

Will hold off on SWP for now, but a possible differential later.

Why was Simpson not priced at 4.5M this season, when it was clear from last year that he was nailed on? I hate these kind of price f*ck-ups. Ok, he might not be nailed on now, after R Taylor's good form and Santon in at left-back, but this has only surfaced after the prices were initially determined.

Simpson is not that great a player and should not be in 20.2% of teams, but he is due to them pricing him too low.

Bosingwa at 6.0M would have been safer for them to go with too, considering they price Kolarov at 6.5M, Richards at 6.0M etc, and they are not nailed on either...

Well yeah, it helps aid template teams if you have players that scream value, so it is not a good thing in my opinion.

It always happens that some players turn out to be under priced or over priced, but FPL should try to make sure that it doesn't happen, and in Simpson's case there was no information at all that should suggest that he should stay at 4.0M for the new season, they messed this one up good and proper.

Dont agree DeathAngel. Everyone is on the same playing field and can choose anyone the want so as long as there are too many obvious bargains. Most people expected Moses, TerroRat, Sinclair to do well but havent done well so far, albiet them being very unlucky so far.

          Thats my Rant 🙂

      Depends on wenger's formation:
      A. Frimpong Arteta
      -------Ramsey-----

      B. Frimpong Ramsey
      -----Arteta-------

If he plays in the 2nd formation then he'll probably bag a few points
