Leighton Baines looks like being fit for Everton this weekend, as does Theo Walcott for Arsenal. Darren Fletcher declares himself fit and raring to go, while Luis Suarez pleads not to be rested. New QPR star Joey Barton praises the Newcastle fans and Steve Bruce talks up the talents of the shy and retiring Nicklas Bendtner. Here’s today’s Scribbles, folks:

Reports this morning suggest Leighton Baines will be fit for Everton’s weekend clash with Aston Villa. Having limped out of England’s training camp with a hamstring problem, the left-back was expected to be unavailable for the game but it appears he is well on schedule to now feature. David Moyes received some bad news on the injury front to temper his cheer- Victor Anichebe could be out till Christmas with a groin tear.

Steve Bruce has been talking up Nicklas Bendtner ahead of this weekend’s home clash with Chelsea. The pair, of course, have linked up previously, when Bruce took the Dane on loan while manager of Birmingham and the Black Cats boss applied a little flattery while speaking to the Sunderland website:

There’s no doubt that he has terrific ability, and we might just have got him at the right time. He’s got something to prove and a real hunger to show people just how good he is. Maybe he has lost his way a little bit over the last couple of years but I’m convinced this is the right move for him. Nicklas is a very naturally gifted footballer.

Arsene Wenger received some good news on the injury front ahead of Saturday’s match with Swansea. Kieran Gibbs and Theo Walcott are set to be fit and available for selection as the Gunners look to bounce back from their 8-2 hammering at Old Trafford.

Steed Malbranque is looking for a swift return to the Premier League. The Frenchman played just 26 minutes for new club St Etienne before announcing his retirement but changed his mind after the club cancelled his contract. Now a free agent, the former Sunderland player would relish a return to England’s top-flight.

Bryan Ruiz has vowed to repay the faith shown in him by Fulham, with the club paying over £10m for his services before the closure of the transfer window. The big-money buy from FC Twente spoke to the club’s official website:

I know that a lot is expected of me but I’m here to make a difference – I want to do all I can for Fulham. The club paid a lot of money for me, I know that, but it is a responsibility I am willing to carry. I will react positively and hopefully I can take the chance that I have been given.

It’s been reported that Samir Nasri is expected to play for Man City against Wigan on Saturday. The Frenchman broke a finger on international duty and despite endless speculation via the likes of twitter for much of yesterday, City have yet to comment.

Ahead of his QPR debut against old club Newcastle, Joey Barton has vowed to show some respect. There’s no lack of irony that the midfielder will face Alan Pardew’s side in his first game in QPR colours in Monday night’s Loftus Road showdown and Barton was nothing but complimentary to the club’s supporters:

The fans were brilliant at Newcastle. In my last couple of seasons there, they’ve supported the football club through thick and thin. I’ll always have a relationship with them. What’s gone is gone. I’m never going to say a bad word about the football club or the fans. I wish them every success.

Darren Fletcher is eyeing up a return to the Man United first-team after coming through two lots of ninety minutes on international duty this past week. The midfielder looks to have finally put his struggles with a mystery virus behind him and is ready to challenge the likes of Anderson and Tom Cleverley for a place in the starting XI.

I feel good and I’m ready to go back to my club now and somehow get back into that team. I don’t think I’ll walk into the team but I’m ready to play. The team are performing so well just now so I don’t think the manager will be making too many changes. I’ve got to be patient and wait for my chance but I’ve been in that situation before and I know what it’s all about.

Alex McLeish has played down fears of a troubling groin problem for Aston Villa keeper Shay Given. The Irishman has battled the injury during the start of the season and took a knock to his back while on international duty but Big Eck expects him to be fit and ready for the trip to Everton this weekend.

Luis Suarez has insisted he is anything but fatigued ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Stoke. The Uruguayan has been eased back into domestic action by Kenny Dalglish after a summer of Copa America duties and has yet to play ninety minutes for the Reds.

I want to play in all the games I can for Liverpool. I don’t want any rest at all. Despite only having that week’s training before playing again, I’m only 24 so I felt good.

With Javier Hernandez looking likely to start this weekend at Bolton, Wayne Rooney has been praising his fellow forward. Worryingly for the rest of the Premier League, Rooney feels playing alongside the Mexican means he’ll only get better this year:

Me and him do a lot of finishing after sessions to try and keep progressing and getting better. It’s great to have a lad who has just come into the team, who speaks good English and is always smiling. It’s great for him and for me to have someone like that. I think we can both learn from each other.

I think this is what I'm going with for this weekend...

    Krul
    Bosingwa
    Kompany
    De Laet
    Jose Enrique
    Silva
    Anderson
    Young
    Rooney
    Dzeko
    Van Persie

    Vorm
    Simpson
    Johnson B
    Dyer N

I'll probably replace Van Persie with Suarez in the next few weeks, allowing me to either bring in Jarvis for Johnson B or upgrade to Anderson.

    What do you think?

I mean, how do we know it´s good? 3 gw´s are not enough to show any trend...

Man Utd and Man City shown they have great possibilities, but keep in mind Man Utd also suffered to win against WBA and Man City suffered a bit a against Bolton.

We don´t know yet who is good, who isn´t. Why are we so sure that Man Utd will bag another ton of goals in an away game? Or that Man City will kill Wigan?

the more i think about it, i'm pretty content that i didnt wc, i cant field 11 players, admittedly not the best and have tough fixtures but they will play, i had two frees anyway so didnt lose a transfer, and I can save the w/c for a couple of weeks when fixtures take a turn. My only regret is missing out on the rises.

no, imo. bent might play, if he's out you'l get someone from you're bench and you need to hope suarez gets at least an assist to break even, bent also has good fixtures and i dont think his injury is serious enough to keep him out of two gws.

Anyone have any thoughts about Wes Hoolahan? All I need from him is to start the home games against West Brom, Sunderland, Swansea and Blackburn in the next few weeks... Surely he will? I thought he was their best player?

I can partially understand the decision to drop him for the Stoke game, as Lambert clearly wanted a more physical side - although I don't think it was necessary at home.

Was Hoolahan rotated at all in the Championship? Is Lambert a renowned tinkerman?

Any wildcard consultants out there? Latest incarnation is trying to combine taking advantage of players who look underpriced by about 1m each(bosingwa, dzeko, suarez, mata&enrique), with proven points scorers that are facing great fixture runs (RVP&theo). I run into problems then by not having another striker space for rooney... Who faces toughish fixtures, return of hernandez who traditionally blunts rooneys points returns, as well as champs lge fixs starting up. He is also in the form of his life and on pens + free kicks in an ultra attacking side. Next, went for swansea & norwich keepers who are dirt cheap, but rotate splendidly up to gw12, basically a run of 9 gws with a gk at home to a lower half team. Plug in dyer, de laet and taylor (swansea) for the bench. By this stge i have 20.6 for 1 def & 2 mids. S taylor is cheap so with him completing my back 3 i now have16.1 for 2 mids. I dont have utd coverage so young looks an obvious choice... Leaving 6.0 for a mid... Jamie o hara as wolves have decent fixs & he has been clocking up lots of goal attempts, even from his deeper role. So leaves me with the below. And no room for baines, rooney or silva. And a lightweight bench 🙁

    Rudd
    Bos/enrique/staylor
    Mata/walcott/young/ohara
    RVP/suarez/dzeko
    (vorm/delaet/taylor/dyer)

Does anyone else take this approach when planning a WC team? Apologies for long post btw, i am bored and supposed to be working.

Other than this GW Krul and Vorm rotate really well too. Mata is unproven downgrade him to Brunt who takes set pieces and has a nice set of fixtures coming up and that leaves you with cash for elsewhere.
To answer your question i try and do it similar to you aswell.
      I came up with:
      Krul, Vorm
Enrique, Bosingwa, Hughes, De laet, Ward
      Walcott, Nasri, Brunt, Hunt, Dyer
      RVP, Rooney, Dzeko

I think bosingwa & enrique are a good foundation to build a team around anyways. Two elite defenders for 10.5 (if you got in early) is too good to ignore. The rooney dilemma wont go away though, and i have a nagging feeling that mata will be the real deal. When you look at 10.5 for malouda, who mata will basiclly be replacing he certainly does look a bit of value. His track record in spain is also impressive, usually around 10 goals + 10 assists a year. He could be one of these lds who instantly adapts as well, although granted norwich are not the toughest team to make your debut against.

Yesterday some clown thought that the price rules had changed for this season. He reckoned that rather than 36k for 0.1 rise in a week, and then 72k for the next 0.2 rise in that week, and then 108k for a third rise, he thought that it was just a 0.1 rise for every 36k increase in owners.

Looking at the FPL site though by checking Dzeko out:

    Transfers IN this week: 342,083
    Transfers OUT this week: 4,169

    Net Transfers IN = 337,914

Now divide this by 36,000, (the aparent threshold for going up 0.1M), and we get 9.38.

So apparently Dzeko should have had 9 price rises if the rules were changed, but actually he has only risen 3 times.

First rise is 1 unit of 36k, second rise is 2 units, and third rise is 3 units, totalling 6 units, and 3.38 out of the 4 units till his next rise equals the 9.38 units in total. I then look on total FPL and he is indeed very close to his fourth rise.

Hence no price rule changes this season with respect to rises and falls.

Today some clown didn't seem to understand that players can have more than 36k NTI on a single day, hence throwing his naive little calculations way out.

Yeah, you can have more than 36k, as I have said, I don't know what the exact rise amount is in terms of amount of transfers per unit.

My point is that the amount of transfers for each subsequent rise increases.

With the caveat that each season the amount of transfers IN for each 'unit' can slightly vary, ie it could be 36k this year, 37.5k next season, or even 32k etc. This is all dependent on the amount of players playing the game.

This is a regular 'rule change', and it isn't really a rule change, merely a calibration of the same existing rules.

Ahhh so thats how it works. Is the unit size 36k for every player then as well or does it depend on their original baseline ownership?

I don't know the exact unit size, 36k is just the figure that some think it to be, but it could easily be different from 36k, as Jamsiep says above, since you can have more than 36k transfers IN, and then the rise happens at night and wipes out the excess transfers.

Well for a start I think your numbers of transfers needed are arbritary but more importantly because the site went down early in the week and didn't update on Sunday night it meant some players accumulated a number of transfers well over the threshold for a rise but then return to 0%.
I'm not sure it's doubled or not but it seems like the guys at totalfpl have got it sorted now.

True, but I am not sure on it being so much over, that we can definitely say that it is the same transfer rise for 0.1 and then 0.2 and then 0.3 etc in the same week.

With the residue though, yeah, my figures aren't great because some have been lost in the system. That was bad figuring on my part.

If the prices had overflowed by 600% then this might explain it, but was it really that high?

Basically, the transfers should have been enough for 9 rises, but we only have 3 rises so far. Were 6 'rises worth' lost in the ether?

I know there is a bit of residue, but I don't recall seeing that.

Unfortunately though, my post could be wrong due to the fact that players don't just rise when they reach 100%, if Dzeko was WAY over, then there is a possibility that the rules have changed and that I am full of sh*t. 😀

Either there was a lot of wasted residue of transfers when Dzeko rised, OR, maybe it is not 1 x unit of NTI = 0.1 rise, 2 x unit of NTI = 0.2 rise, 3 x unit of NTI = 0.3 rise, and is instead 1 x unit of NTI = 0.1, 1.25 x unit = 0.2, 1.5 x unit = 0.3 etc etc

Either way, it shows that I am wrong here, and there is still a good possibility that the rules HAVE changed. 😉

I think the answer lies in all the transfers lost in the 'nether'. CTC is quite clear that the transfer targets are 36k each time.

So if there are 100,000 NTI in one day, you'll only get a 0.1 increase and a reset to 0 on the NTI (for calcuation purposes).

IMO it is too early. I won my mini league last year and i put it down to using my WC at a key time just after the jan WC window had closed. Never underestimate how many double gameweeks will crop up that you will wish you still had your WC to take advantage of!

I would disagree. I have finished 1-2-1 in my mini league the last 3 years... And top 1000 overall last year. In all 3 years i have used WC in GW 2 or 3, admittedly because i never have the patience to hold onto it.

Key messge is though, it is being effective with the subtle adjustments every week, and avoiding transfer points hits unless absolutely necessary that pushes you up the rankings, rather than holding onto your WC until feb next yr.

    RATE MY TEAMS ARE BORING!!!!

Its rare that i post on here even though this is the 3rd season of me following this site. I normally just like to scan through and pick up on some of the gems of info that come out when some quality questions and answers are posted.... but now everyone just seems to want to have THEIR teams picked for them!

Why dont all the RMT'ers come up with a valid question over a decision or 2 that they need genuine help and advice on rather than just posting a bunch of names in a team formation! (Rant over... Ill disappear into the background again now 😉 )

    Wildcarded team: any glaring mistakes???

    Hennessy (Ruddy)

    Bosingwa Kompany Mertesacka DeLaet (Brown)

    Walcott Brunt Silva (Dyer Ferguson)

    Dzeko Rooney(C) VanPersie

I know its a poor bench, but the fixtures are great for:
    Ruddy/Hennessy switching
    Brown/DeLaet switching

So i dont think ill need to use my midfield subs at all, wise option????
