There’s another close-fought tussle atop the Captain Poll this week. Robin Van Persie’s quartet of goals over the break, albeit against the “might” of San Marino, has thrust him forward as the leading candidate. The Fantasy manager’s confidence is no doubt reinforced by the fact that Swansea arrive at the Emirates on Saturday having already suffered a battering on the road via a vibrant Man City performance, although Arsenal will go into the game licking deep Old Trafford wounds; it could get interesting if the Swans can keep them at bay early on.

Van Persie’s substantial attacking threat, bolstered by his set-piece involvement, has him out in front with City’s Edin Dzeko on his tail following his own four-goal salvo at Spurs in Gameweek three. The Bosnian will surely retain a starting role this weekend, despite the looming threat of Champions League rotation in the City camp. Roberto Mancini’s side have Wigan in the sights, a side who, believe it or not, have kept things reasonably tight to this point. Can the Latics stem the City tide, conducted by the brilliance of David Silva and a mummified Samir Nasri? It seems unlikely.

Wayne Rooney’s presence in the top rankings also comes as little surprise. Irresistible form, prolonged with a brace in Bulgaria, has him well placed to inflict more damage at the Reebok this weekend as United pitch their rampant attacking football against a Bolton side who looked exposed at Anfield last time out. Goals at both ends look on the cards.

Those three strikers are the clear armband contenders, although midfield master craftsmen David Silva and Mikel Arteta are pushing in fourth and fifth. Their brand of Spanish flair should be given an airing in their home fixtures, and the strong confidence in City and Arsenal victories continues further down the poll as the likes of Sergio Aguero, Samir Nasri and Theo Walcott all figure highly in the current thinking.

Indeed, Luis Suarez, currently ranked tenth, is the only player outside of City, Arsenal and United in the top ten – the Uruguayan has an unenviable trip to the Britannia this weekend, and, having drawn a blank in the win over Bolton last time out, confidence from the Fantasy fraternity appears to have been dented. Notably, Suarez is amongst the most “transferred out” players going into Saturday’s Fantasy Premier League (FPL) deadline.

Want an outside bet? Defenders with attacking potential might be the route to follow. Both Jon Arne Riise and Leighton Baines (who is now expected to be available) are simmering outside our top ten but clearly offer returns at both ends of the pitch when Blackburn and Villa visit their home turf.

Plenty to ponder before the deadline bell tolls – be sure to place your vote in this week’s poll via the homepage middle column.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

She kept popping up on Fridays last season giving "Frans Scout picks" and then popping up later if they did better than Marks saying "I told you so".

Haven't seen her this season though.

Hes too defensive imo. Hes a holding mid who makes the odd forward run ala yaya currently. Not a great buy for the money imo. So many great choices at 6 or 6.5 with better fixtures, more guaranteed game time and far more attacking potential.

How nailed on is obertan at this moment? Nescastle have a really good run of fixtures and at 5.0 he frees up some much needed cash. Anyone fancy a punt?

Moses v Barkley v Obertan v downgrading defence and getting a 6.0 since all the 5.5s such??

Don't know whether to take a 4 point hit this week, I've got 2 transfers... thoughts please...

    A) Torres, Ageuro, Sinclair > Dzeko, Saurez, Walcott (4 point hit)
    B) Torres, Sinclair > Walcott and 7.8 for a striker
    C) Torres, Sinclair > RVP and 4.9 for a midfielder

    Hi guys,
I have wild carded, team as I anticipate

    Given Vorm
    Warnock Woodgate Santon Taylor(SWA) 4.0M
Young Silva Nasri(to Mata soon) Anderson Ferguson
    Rooney Dzeko Suarez

I don't mind the doubling on villa def, undecided on my last 4.0M def and will do Silva/Nasri to Mata when I decide who is best to keep.

I feel my defence is way too weak and Ferguson is a bad pick but I do like the strength in midfield and up top.

    Any advice guys?

I´d say Silva, he´s due, Plus Rooney is not as on form as people would like to think. I don´t like the chemistry with e and Hernandez yet. Welbeck offered something that Chich lacks and freed Rooney with time with the ball at hisfeet around the box. Oh yeah thats right Welbeck is a giver and taker, Chich is just a taker...aka poacher. Can´t live on that Ashley Young one-dimensional cut-insides forever...

hmm yes i played the fixtures for last couple of weeks ... torres wasn't too helpful hence the hopeless rank... Fixtures or form is always tricky. Personally i think Man Utd's fixture is just as good as arsenals. The Arsenal crowd make it a hard place for them to play...maybe harder than most away teams when they go to stoke. If swansea keep them at bay for the first 30mins it could get nasty for them.

Bolton, however, playing better under owen coyle are not the rock they used to be at home and often leave massive gaps. Rooney, young and nani to exploit these.

I think your midfeild is weak, but given the strength upfront it's understandable.

I have gone for 2 super stikers and 1 cheapy (see below post) and beefed up the midfeild!

I ve seen yours mids look savage! Tempted to change my mid to similar but dont want to drop my front 3. Think i ll drop RVP/Dzeko in 2 weeks when he ll be injured/rotated, get a cheap striker and beef up my mid

Believe me buddy, that debate has been doing the rounds in my head for the last 2 weeks...I can see the benefits of having a strong front three...especially with the current bonus system 🙂

Midfield is sweet as! Dunno about Agbonlahor though Villa manager is not know for getting best out of his attackers but they have easyish fixtures coming up i d change to Klasnic once the fixtures are favourable for Bolton

Im on a wildcard, and wondering whether this is worth a punt?

Suarez & Jarvis -> Baines & Crouch (now at Stoke).

I will lose 0.2mil team value tho.

Don't worry about it, the fact you have played your WC means you can keep doing transfers penalty free.

Would you take a risk and put Hunt instead of Jarvis ? Due to injury concern and i could make a profit on Jarvis. Surely Hunt is playing a advanced role ??

Krul and Vorm rotate very well and S.taylor is under valued is my thought process. Taking a risk with Adebayor, big differental. Would you take Hunt over Jarvis ?? Injury concern and all.

    Options:

    A:
    Given/Vorm
    Simpson/Enrique/Bosingwa/Ward/DeLaet
    Silva/DEMPSEY/Dyer/Brunt/Petrov
    RVP/Rooney/Suarez

    or

    B:
    Given/Vorm
    Simpson/Enrique/Bosingwa/Ward/DeLaet
    Silva/A.YOUNG/Dyer/FERGUSON/Petrov
    RVP/Rooney/Suarez

    or

    C:
    Given/Vorm
    Simpson/TAYLOR(SWA)/Bosingwa/Ward/DeLaet
    Silva/A.YUNG/FERGUSON/BRUNT/Petrov
    RVP/Rooney/Suarez

Would like to get 3 killer forwards and 2 big hitters in the midfield. Taking to benchwarmers (Dyer&Ferguson) to the mid seems annoying.
