Before all the Rooney vice-captains come into play and we can concentrate on European endeavours for a couple of days we’ve got the Joey Barton of all match-ups.

The prickly character sees us open the Dugout Discussion as manager Neil Warnock hands him the armband against his old side Newcastle – not one to flounce under the radar, clearly. QPR are in fact rocking a whole host of new signings while Alan Pardew recalls Shola Ameobi in place of Peter Lovenkrands. Sides in full are…

QPR XI: Kenny; Young, Gabbidon, Ferdinand, Traore; Barton, Derry, Faurlin, Taarabt, Wright-Phillips; Bothroyd.

Newcastle XI: Krul; Simpson, S. Taylor, Coloccini, R. Taylor; Obertan, Tiote, Cabaye, Gutierrez; Best, Ameobi.

Let us close the gameweek together in the Dugout Discussion and watch the sparks fly.

Theres definite tension between Novak and Nadal. Good to see compared to Nadal - Federer.

Nadal is gona train like a beast for next year.

Surely nobody likes playing Nadal, he takes so long between every shot. Why can't he just find some underwear and shorts that fit better so he doesn't have to dig them out of his ass between every single ball?

If you survived this week I think you should survive the next few. Presuming you brought in RVP, he could still outscore him in the next few weeks, just don't captain him until he shows form.

    Vorm (Hilario)

    Taarabt Arteta Silva Brunt (N.Dyer)
    Dzeko Rooney RVP(C)

You have Rooney so I presume the main reason for your deficit is failure to captain him. To rectify this, captain him. Don't trust RVP with the armband until he shows he deserves it. He's worth having, but not pinning all your hopes on.

He played very well at times and if they score goals he's likely to be involved. He's not on set pieces anymore with Barton there (penalties maybe still). He's a lot of money at 6.5 for a side that isn't scoring goals, he is a gamble that could pay off or produce nothing. If you have the money to get him in for Clev then with no real standouts around that price he may be worth it, at least in the short term to see how he pans out.

It seems to be a common theme here on FFS that we're all struggling thus far, seems we put thought into our teams with the knowledge we have in FPL, but the "part-time" players are winning big from doing the total opposite to what we do!

          That's such a cop out.

Captaining Rooney isn't exactly a 'part-time' move, nor rocket science.

Many around here wanted the 'next C. Adam' ... they filled their teams with far, far too many punts in order to land knockout blows in the first weeks, and - surprise, surprise - their long-odds gambles didn't come through (in the first 4 weeks!).

Don't hate on the folks who went 'boring' blue chips and cashed in.

Seems a really childish explanation to say "oh, they're winning cause they're lucky, I'm playing properly but I'm not winning."

It's a prediction game, folks. Those who get the points are good. Those who do not, are not. That's how FF works. If you observe teams for a whole season but still lose to someone who started a team and made 0 transfers or team changes throughout the whole season, he made the better decisions. Not you.

Only thing which can point out how good you are at FF is your final rank after GW38. That is all. For every season since 05/06 I've shown improvement in that rank, which tells me I'm getting the hang of this game. No reason to panic after 4 GWs.

        Agree 100%.

And - I should highlight - I've made some really, really diabolical decisions thus far. Largely me trying to be too cute by half. But, I own those mistakes.

And let's remember: if it was easy, it wouldn't be fun.

I think there's a lot of truth in what you say, however you surely have experienced someone making bad decisions and being rewarded for it.... for example, the guy in my league who played Mikel, De Jong and O'Shea this week- and had 12 points come off the bench as a result....

That said, the player in question didn't beat me on these outcomes, he beat me on captaining Rooney whilst I captained Walcott, so I can't complain.

After 38 weeks these things even out and the best players get the best scores, no doubt, but clearly there's a large luck element too which can be hugely frustrating at times.

Meh, as always, when people do well, their luck was earned. When others get lucky, it was unearned.

I'd say your league rival was goog/lucky enough to have a decent bench. Frustrating? Yeah, like another Newcastle CS (grumble, grumble).

As for the luck issue, I'm making no distinction between earned/unearned luck... luck is luck. I'm sure I'll benefit from it at some point too, and it's fair to say my rival did have a good bench-Jagielka, Assou-Ekotto and Bale were the three to come on- so he was in a position to benefit from good luck.

No worries... we're getting in danger of having some kind of philosophical discussion on the nature of luck here. I'm going to start spouting Marxist-determinist theories if we're not careful...

My captaining of Walcott was clearly a result of the capitalist society into which I was born, I can't be held responsible for it....

      Hopefully all will come good!
The mid-price midfielders have been frustrating so far:
      Taarabt, Sinclair, Sessegnon etc.
But as mark has said above, i guess the big difference has been the Rooney captaining.

Dont make unknown assumptions lads. How does anyone know the majority of people leading are part timers or newbies??? Have they checked the history to the top 100k?? My first yr on FFL and doing ok with a total of 291 after 4 weeks. I had all the potential bargains such Moses, Tarrabt, sinclair and even djeko in week 1, but traded them out when they didnt perform except djeko. Did I do this as a knee jerk? Absolutely! Did it pay off? Absolutely. Will my next knee jerk pay off? maybe not. But thats the fun and luck of this game.

Do people think Brunt's appearance as a substitute this weekend will become a regular occurrence?
I brought him in to my team believing he was near enough a guaranteed start each week...but now I'm having doubts...

I think Brunt will start and play a full 90mins,
He played two internationals last week hence his limited game time. He's club captain also, so i hope he'll play as he's in my team also.

I like seeing the Aguero and Dzeko NTIs. Every week one scores and the other doesn’t, and thousands transfer the non-scorer out and he scorer in. I had this hilarious mental image that they’re constantly swapping one for the other – if those players are chasing last weeks’ points like this for the rest of the season, they’ll have each when he’s NOT SCORING and will never have them when they score.

In other news, WBA keep a CS away for the first time in 20+ games.

squad looks pretty good. just a few things to consider:

first is I'm not sure how ashley young will do on the european stage. plus we have no idea how man uniteds rotations will be with valencia coming into the rotation. and more importantly with an easy group.

the other is aguero. while he probably wont be much of a rotation risk in the CL, this is city's first time in the competition and they do have a very difficult group! and I think there are other quality strikers for less. (ibra, hulk, milito, hernandez, etc)

I don't know anything about your subs but in the CL fantasy it seems to be even more crucial to have a balanced and rotatable squad as you can make subs and captain changes in the middle of the gameweek (between days)

also nani and nasri seem to be better deals than silva and young and would give you another 1.5 to upgrade other parts of your squad.

is benzema nailed on? cuz I can never seem to keep track of which madrid attackers besides ronaldo are in favor between benzema, higuain, di maria, ozil and kaka

Vidic is out so Phil Jones should play, I'm gonna take that risk no matter what. I changed Young to Ribery, Silva to Nasri, and Benzema to Ronaldo. I think Aguero will do fine. We'll see though 🙂

    Jose Enrique....?
Keep or sell?Liverpool seem to be a tad unreliable thus far, not great fixtures up ahead and Tottenham next week?
Was thinking maybe Mertesacker or whatever his name is for Arsenal, Blackburn up next and good fixtures ahead?
    Thoughts?

    ucl team:

    eduardo, pyatov
adriano, andre santos, kovac, nagatomo, vasin
nasri, bastos, witsel, xabi alonso, joao moutinho
    messi, milito, hernandez

i have 2.5 mil to spend right now. where should I use it? thinking I probably want to make one big upgrade in midfield (probably spend 2 or 2.5 mil) but not sure who to upgrade and to who.

any ideas, thoughts, or suggestions would be great! thanks

I think that considering he only cost 5.0 it'd be worthwhile keeping him. He'll give you solid returns and i think that would be a wasted transfer tbh. Even if you kept him on the bench for the odd game.

Also thinking logically, Tottenham's defense has been rather poor so far this season, Liverpool don't have any European games whereas Tottenham have Europa League, i think it's a fixture Liverpool players could perform well in.

But yeah i think he's good value for his money, and if your team is anything like mine they'll be another player in your team better suited to getting the boot.

    Krul (Vorm)
    Bosingwa Enrique Kompany (Simpson, Briggs)

      Some differences, I'm considering..

I have the same pair of GK, but I now plan to start Vorm (home to WBA).

Also, I'm thinking to bench Bosingwa (away to Man Utd) as United should score at least one.

It's this kind of game where Simpson will unexpectedly get CS.

My armband is probably on Dzeko.

Was also considering dropping Bosingwa for Simpson, though Bosingwa does have the attckink and assist potential. I do think United will score though.
I'm giving RVP another chance for captain, but Dzeko could go well against a slow-starting Fulham.
I'm 110 points behind my rival, having a terrible season :-(!

It's about 50 points for me. Never this far behind in the last few seasons.. 🙁

I watched Arsenal vs Swansea and quite disappointed with the flow of Arsenal game, so feel RVP a little bit high risk..

Silva, Dzeko, and Rooney probably the safer choices. But, if RVP explodes, it would be a good catch up.

RVP away at Blackburn.. I might consider that as a last bet against mass.

just finished watching djokovic v nadal, was absolutely loving the best game i have ever seen, until djokovic cheated in the 4th set, everybody is praising him, yes he is a unbelievable player but all the medical time out was about was to have a rest for a while as he was out of gas, very unfair to have nadal waiting around and clearly killed the momentum he built up in the 3rd set, if he had a such a serious problem with his back he would not have been able to move like he did in the 4th set, this is what proves to me that it was nothing more than a breather and a tactic to disrupt nadal, disgraceful in my opinion, ruined the match for me
