Patience, the antithesis of our oft-used phrase ‘knee jerk’ is the theme that runs through our latest Podcast episode.

Mark is adamant that he’s set to stand by his men, despite paltry returns thus far. Having missed out on the Wayne Rooney hat-tricks though, can he really afford to risk another avalanche?

Also in discussion this week – dubious pinball assists and Dzeko rotation pains, all blended with the usual mix of moans, speculative opinions and random musings that make up the regular ScoutCast offering.

Any one else considering giving Bent the armband? I thought it looked reasonable until I saw only 5% agreed with me, I'm now losing confidence and retreating towards the Roonpig, but I agree with people that he's not going to go mad against Chelsea.

He's not really done too well this year. AV haven't really settled, too defensive. One player who should be flying is NZog. But he's been pretty gash too. But then he'll probably grab a hatty this weekend!

Well you could say the same about people captaining Rooney this week. He's playing Chelsea. Ben is a consistent goal scorer, he got 12 points GW1 and in GW2 he was playing Wolves at home. I'd say people giving him the armband that week were pretty sensible.

I'm still probably going to bottle it and go Roonpig this week though.

The fixture looks good on paper but Newcastle have actually looked rather solid this season and have only conceded once and are yet to concede away from home. I fancy a 0-0 or 0-1 for this one.

Quick straw poll you lovely lovely people. Captain for this week, due to a lack of Rooney, and a shortage of players playing at home, my armband is currently sat on Adebayor. Would the general consesus be that i've made the right choice over these options?

    Silva
    Young
    Dzeko
    RVP

I know RVP is leading the FFS Captain Poll, but he stung me badly last week, so am wary of making the same mistake twice.

Plus he plays in the early kick off. I hate captaining early KOs.

He looks likely to play at least 60m against Fulham and be rested in the Carling Cup. If Mancini rests him, surely he won't play him in the Carling Cup and then he wouldn't get a game for 10 days...

With respect Microcuts, you'd probably get a better consensus from the captains poll.

But at risk of sounding like an ass I'd go with RVP. It's easy to lose faith after last week's performance but it's still Arsenal and it's still bottom-of-the-league Blackburn we're talking about here. Should be a comfortable Arsenal win and I fancy RVP to get a slice of the action.

Yeah, I figured someone would probably say that, but i'd very much appreciate some feedback as well as an outright choice. I feel the need to discuss it and come to an educated guess rather than just follow the poll and select RVP.

Thanks for the input though. I saw a definite improvement in Blackburns defence last week, Dann in particular seems to have made a difference, and Arsenal lacked a cutting edge against Swansea. Its all swings and roundabouts though, Adebayors got a tough fixture.

The main feedback really is that RVP is a class player, he's up there with the best in europe IMO. And class is permanent, unless you're Torres!!! People forget that Arsenal have a different side to last year, and while the Arsenal philosophy will not change, the new players will have to adapt. The young crop play the same way from the age of 9, so they just slot in. Gervinho, Arteta, Santon, Mertersacker, while they are class players, still have to adapt to the Arsenal style. Once this happens, RVP will be laughing. And it will be soon

Thanks all for your input, it looks like i'm going to go the way of the overall poll and stick it on RVP, based on his current form, albeit away from the EPL, and the fact that Gervinho should return, and that Blackburn really are a bit pump.

            Excellent work. Cheers

no wildcard necessary. Tevez needs to go. 12m too much for a rotation risk altho once he hits some form i think he will get most of the gametime. if i had suarez in my team i wouldnt be transfering him out. tiote and ferguson and big problems and they need to go as soon as u get a chance. defenders are fine imo.

Taarabt is a good pick. Im looking at getting him in the near future somehow. I think Tevez to someone like Odemwingie or Adebayor would be a good option then use the left over cash to use on Tiote and Ferguson. You are going to need the cash from somewhere so Tevez looks to be the best candidate to sacrifice.

Lining up the team like this atm
    Given (Vorm)
    Baines Enrique Kompany Simpson (Bosingwa)
    Nani Walcott(c) Brunt Duff (Moses)
    Suarez Dzeko (A.Johnson)

1.9 in bank.. Hoping Dzeko is nailed on but Duff and A.Johnson have to go. No need to take a 4 point hit tho so will most likely go Duff-Taarabt this week due to fixtures and the fact he has started to look good and Duff has done nothing and faces Man C. Anyone think I should do something else or make any changes??

I picked up Albrighton because of the injuries to Villa's attackers, and figured he'd have a chance to shine. He picked up an assist in his short game time last weekend. He doesn't seem a bad shout.

Arteta is the one I'm worried about most. If I go De Gea > Given, I can also do Arteta > Adam, or Sturridge > Dzeko. Which of those sounds better to you?

lots of money on keepers there. 10mil max on keepers i reckon and even then that is pushing it.
Kompany more reliable than Richards but Richards more attacking so i can understand if you wanted to keep him. 2 Newcastle defenders a no go as well.
Albrighton not nailed on and will most likely not get the minutes to justify his pick. Could nearly downgrade him to Dyer i reckon as he is good value for money at 4.6 and that also saves money for upgrading elsewhere.
Sturridge a risk but will most likely get him in myself next week pending this weekends performance. Still too early for him imo.
      The rest looks solid.

I was saying Dzeko in would be a possibility if I saved money on keepers.

Thanks for the input everyone, much more than I expected to get. My changes: Simpson > Ferdinand (QPR), Albrighton > Dyer, Suarez > RVP, De Gea > Given. Leaves me with only 0.4 in the bank, but I had a miserable, miserable start to the season so my team's value is in the shitter.

And after that, Ferdinand > De Laet and Arteta > Walcott leaves me with 0 in the bank and what I think is a pretty strong team. Just hope that Sturridge doesn't disappoint, though if Chelsea scores against United I'd put money on him being the one to do it.

You don't need De Gea. I'd play Begovic almost every week. Kompany way better than Richards (BPs and guaranteed minutes). I would do:

      De Gea --> 4.0 keeper
      Enrique --> Baines
      Richards --> Kompany
      Albrighton --> Taarabt or SWP

Such a hard captaincy choice and after getting it wrong the last few weeks I need a safe choice:

Dzeko - played in champs league for 80 mins but I don't believe they have a midweek game (any champs league?) so there is a chance he might start. Surely starting him in ManC first champs league match shows Mancini has faith in him. Verdict: too risky for me

Rooney - On great form but up against the Chelsea defence and probably Uniteds first hard game of the season. Can anyone recall if he scored against Chelsea last season? I remember Hernandez scoring. I'm a Chelsea fan but think it will be 2-1 to united with Hernandez getting one of the goals so not sure if Rooney is worth it this week. Verdict: fixture says no form says yes 50 : 50

Silva - has got points in all but one game this season and is the hub of all city do. Looked great in their last game but didn't see him in the champs league. Last season ManC won at craven cottage 4-1. Fulham are looking a bit shaky and it sounds like Hughes and Senderos are both doubts so maybe Grugera will play? I just cant see Fulham holding ManC. Verdict: surely the safe bet for some points

Van Persie - not on top form but scored mid week. Has the advantage of Gervinho and Song returning from suspension which I think will help him alot. If BLA have Samba out they may not be as strong defensively. Verdict: think he may score in this one.

    Which one from....

was disappointed Meireles didnt pick up BP last gw, kind of put me off a bit, cos i think i needs to if gonna be valuable when playing so deep

Ramires needs to up his goalscoring before worth considering, but that could well happen, lets just see

      Mata or Sturridge for me

Who are/would people start this week between Brunt and Dyer?
Start Brunt and if he's not passed fit let Dyer come on? Or is there too much of a risk of a 1 pointer from Brunt?

I'd stick Dyer in from the off tho. He's an injury risk, if he's 90% fit, he may come on for the last 20, do bugger all, and lose you points. Meanwhile, Dyer glances a header in off the far post 😉

    Given (Vorm)
Simpson, Ward, r taylor (Bosingwa, de Laet)
A young, Silva (v), Moses, Walcott, Taarabt
    Rooney (c), Dzeko (Klasnic)

Probably the best setup, I have benched Bosingwa too but fear he might get something out of that game, but in the long run its normally best thinking rationally.

I think this is a good gw to save a transfer

    Hi,

I have 2 free transfers to use + 3,5 in bank.

    Current team:

    ruddy, given

boswinga, baines, de laet, simpson and lescott

silva, o hara, taarabt, moses and sessegnon

    rooney, dzeko and holt

Thinking of downgrading lescott to brown beacuse of Toure soon being back and upgrading holt to aguero with 0 left in bank.

Is it too much with 2 manc forwards, I've been thinking that at least one of those will play each game. Also I have som flexibility to change dzeko to suares/odem/adebayor or aguero to RVP if form changes...

Any other suggestions to enhance the team?

I accidently ended up with both aguero and dzeko a couple of gw ago and it has worked out fine so far, only problem is none of them can be trusted (C) with the rotation risk, altho if agureo starts this weekend he must be regarded just as safe as silva imo, so we'll see

      Adebayor maybe?

Sure I have 🙂 I'm a Spurs fan. And as many spurs fans I might be overly pessimistic of our own fixtures.

Anyways, we have 2 difficult home games (lfc and arseanal)

3 away games which are ok, but still - away games... against newcastle which are tight this year, wigan should be ok and Bburn are 50/50 match.

Then in gw 10 it is def better

I ended up with holt to adebayor, saving one free transfer... That guy had 200 points 3 seasons ago and he will do very well at tottenham. Also risk of having two manc forwards is just high

Agree with you but surely Liverpool and Arsenal home are winnable games! Bburn shouldn't be too tough and Newcastle didn't look as good defensively against QPR... their defensive record is good but not surely not sustainable.

agree its a bit risky getting ade after only one game, but think he could do good for his price

If he grabs goal/assist clean sheet then it will be a genius decision that will bewilder my mini-league rivals. If it fails and Rooney goes nuts again then well that's just like all my captaincy choices so far.

Bent is one of the best (c) options this week imo

I think it could be a tough one for Villa.

have to admit im seriously considerng jarvis

dont think their will be lots of goals in the utd chelsea game, which rules out potato head n sturridge
arsenal look poor and blackburn defence at home is no pushover so dont really fancy rvp
silva is a rotation risk surely after playing all their games recently

Could be wrong, but don't think Silva will ever be a rotation risk in the Premier League. We will see.

1st page of comments on this article made for a good read this morning.

Top marks for King Eric's post on "moral clarity". The guy has his head screwed on right 😉

I need to ditch Cashley to free up some money to upgrade Yaya.

Is Cashley and Yaya -> Ward and Silva worth a hit or should I just do the Cashley transfer this week?

low hit-value on those transfers imo, so would just take one at the time

I was reading an article about the toughest rugby players ever, and found this guy:

Read the bit about the Battle of Nantes... what the f&*k?!

having been to uni (in the last century) 😆 i can only say that the antics and outragous behaviour of many many rugby lads (both on and off the field) left me in no doubt that rugby is barely more than a legal fight on the field and more often than not highly illegal off the field

does make very interesting viewing tho 😉

Forgetting about last weeks Brunt Fiasco......I was convinced that this was due to international commitments. Now he's doubtful...any ideas as to why and what are his chances?
