Patience, the antithesis of our oft-used phrase ‘knee jerk’ is the theme that runs through our latest Podcast episode.

Mark is adamant that he’s set to stand by his men, despite paltry returns thus far. Having missed out on the Wayne Rooney hat-tricks though, can he really afford to risk another avalanche?

Also in discussion this week – dubious pinball assists and Dzeko rotation pains, all blended with the usual mix of moans, speculative opinions and random musings that make up the regular ScoutCast offering.

I can't remember ever captaining a defender on this game in the 5 years I've played it. Seriously considering Baines this week though...

If I had Baines, he'd be my captain this week.

As I don't, I hope they don't get another penalty this weekend.

Funny thing is that Everton went on such a long run of not getting a peno last year. Something like 32 games?

Captaincy just switched from the safety of tough fixture, form ridden Rooney to the risk of RVP in a poorly performing team away.

Its all or nothing for RVP...if he lets me down this week he is out as I torch my team for gw6 and enact a mini wild card (two frees and a 4pt hit).

I'm remaining hopeful that with Gervinho back, RVP will have the ammunition to let fly. But...Blackburn's defense has got better since they signed Dann. Hmm...

Yep, a goal is about all I can see from RVP. I think he'll be out of my team next week. £12M needs to be a definite captain option, and at the moment RVP does fill me with confidence.

One thing I'm thinking is that just having Baines in your team is a 'differential' in itself. If he does well you'll get a good boost anyway, so this is making me think it may be more sensible to captain Rooney etc.

Agbonlahor isn't popular, but he's delivering at the moment and is a good differential IMO.

Less sure on RVP, but he's class and will probably burst into life at some point.

I'd get someone like Taarabt and look to upgrade elsewhere (perhaps Gabbidon so as not to overload on QPR), not much value in the expensive midfielders this year, at least so far.

    GW5 Team

    Given
    Baines Brown S.Taylor
    Jarvis Sinclair Sess Walcott
    Rooney Bent Dzeko(c)

    Ruddy Brunt Bosingwa De Laet

What do you think of these transfers for GW6? Both would be free!

    Sessesgnon>Mata

Everton this year is not Everton last year, I appreciate the advice, but there is no way I'm keeping him. My midfield is sooo weak, I need him out to free up funds. If I make that transfer it spreads my money around the field nicely also 🙂

Well I been patient and am now over 100 points behind! I think ive already lost the title and I'm now going to have to gamble a lot to try and make up the gap which may now work against me!
Alomost all the points difference have been made up by 4 players in the whole league and the captain factor.
If you didn;t have Young, Dzeko, Rooney or Aguero and Captain any of the them then chances are your way behind like me! 🙁

I agree, this season has been very strange indeed. Rooney and a very few other players have scored bonkers numbers of points, but in contrast other normally reliable players and quality players have done next to nothing.

Im in that boat along with many others. Ive had 14 points from 4 captains, ive never ever had anything that bad before. I was (and still am) extremely annoyed by this bad luck. However, theres still a long way to go, i would avoid silly punts and play the game as you would normally.

For me this means at most 1 utd player over the next 5 or so weeks. Rooney wont continue getting 3 goals from 3 shots each game like at Bolton. My main problem is players like Brunt and Dzeko.

more of a blow for Odem owners. I always thought it was Odem - Brunt then Dorrans.

Brunt retains second spot to a player that is likely to get subbed for the next few matches....great news for Brunt owners when penalties are given around the 70-90 mark.

Here's some stats re Blackburn and Arsenal away matches in the past.

Last season...the away history suggests that there will be goals.

Arsenal have scored in every prem fixture away at blackburn since 2005/6.

If we deduce that Arsenal are preversely better away from home then I'm sticking with RVP. I don;t predict a haul, but a goal poss plus a an assist and bonus is not an unreasonable RVp prediction.

Arsenal have taken more points off Blackburn than they have against any other Premier League team.

Or they've taken more points off Blackburn than any other premier League team has.

One or the other, brain can only hold so much. Either way, Arsenal have a good record vs. Blackburn.

A lot of players who could become key later in the season are losing value extremely quickly - could be some major bargains to be had when things inevitably change round and everyone's getting rid of Man Utd and Man City players.

I agree Valencia, Tevez, Berb even. Andy Carroll may start a goal run as well when Lpool's fixture's improve. Love watching Tevez's price go down.

Worth keeping an eye in December on potential replacements for those going to the African nations.

    vorm - krul

    bosingwa - kompany - ward - warnock - shorey

    silva - young - arteta - jarvis - dyer

    rooney - klasnic - agbonlahor

i think its nicely balanced? got 1.2m left in the bank, bit worried about no rvp? probably do young>mata next week for chelsea's nice run of fxtures. thoughts? thanks in advance.

No RVP frees up some cash to spend elsewhere, Mid is good, Def is good, but you have 2x 6.5ish mil strikers.....will they bring enough points for you?

Agree, one of those strikers needs to be 10ish, so you can afford Suarez, Adebayor etc when their fixtures improve.

Also, with a WC team you really should be looking further ahead than planning a transfer next week. If you want Mata long term, get him now rather than planning to swap Young next week. Is Young really going to score that well against Chelsea that it's worth a transfer?

lets see, Rooney scores two hat-tricks he's 4million more than Baines and Chelsea have conceded a bit this year, if you don't captain Rooney then you should sell him cause there's only one clear cut choice I can see.

Or Baines, who is a defender who takes set pieces and penalties, playing at home against Wigan who are, let's admit, pretty sh*t. Plus defenders get more for scoring goals too.

I'm going for Rooney as I've captained him every week so far and see no reason to change, but Baines will be a close vice-captain choice. If he plays like he did last week and has even a tiny bit of luck he could very easily hit double figures.

Certainly not clear cut at all.

          Young, Silva, Arteta, Jarvis, Petrov

Figure I play Ward, S.Taylor and De Laet in defense
Young, Silva, and 2 of the aforementioned 3 mids
          Plus the 3 strikers obviously

If I could play 2 at the back I would, but as it is I'm stuck benching a mid I'd rather player!

      A) Liverpool started well, but have been stuttering recently, and there seems alot of scope for goals in their midfield.

      B) Walcott is a proven goalscorer for Arsenal who is looking dangerous (and will hopefully be more efficient alongside new signings, where he is a better player!)

      C) SWP unproven at QPR, wait to see how Warnock will use him for a couple of weeks.

      I would say B.
